Skill points. Without it, you're doomed to militia fit, which is poop. With V skills, you can turn standard into advanced and advanced into proto. How you use your standard-now-advanced is reliant on skill, and with skill you standard stomp (which I'm rather fond of).

Before I say anything else, let it be known I'm pretty terrible with wording at times.
Basically, skill points in the beginning are a higher priority. I mean, sure, it's nice to be able to use militia and kill weak suits, but you'll struggle with anything that is well equipped or has experience as well. Later on, as you amass skill points and unlock the use of things outside of militia, skill is more important, as that allows you to turn anything into a dangerous weapon.
I'm more or less saying both.

Investing SP wisely is a skill in and of itself.
Welcome to New Eden.
.also, skill trumps SP investment when one player has top-tier skills on a noob alt and the other is playing a console FPS for the first time on a friend's proto account. With a competent player vs. a highly-skilled player, gear and SP investment will still make a difference, but not as much of a difference as the players' relative skill levels. When you're good, SP helps you to lean towards greatness, but when you're bad, SP doesn't make up for the holes in your performance. |

Depends on what you call skill.
Some scrub tacticts people consider skillfull and vice versa.
Neither one of them matters though, what matters is how healthy it is for the game.

Yes yes, the all-so-popular argument lol.
Let's repeat it once more:
Quote:Personally I choose skill because I kill proto type suits with medic the starter fit
Everybody kills prototypes with a starter fit. Also with a new character. By meleeing them.
Now do it constantly, in every battle.

Krill is more important.
Without it, the Antarctic food chain would collapse.
The various creatures of the Antarctic that rely on krill would have to resort to the extreme for food. In other words, humans.
Whales would roll around on land like massive rolling pins, flattening all that oppose them, creating delicious human cr+¬pes.
Seals would lure in humans with their adorableness and then beat the humans with clubs, tenderizing our tasty flesh before ripping us apart in an act of hunger and vengeance.
Squid would... oh wait you're talking about skill?
Nevermind then.

To an extent both, if you can't figure out how to shootz doods with mah gunz, then it won't matter how many skill points you have. That said, this game is a first person shooter and when you have played one you have played them all, There's no bullet drop or serious strafing penalties so it's pretty simple to master, which at that point is when the game becomes about skill points. That and who has the better K/BM set up, cause it's pretty rough to hit doods when they be going ADADADADADADADADADADADADADAD on them keyboords! Those are the only guys that give me a real hard time to shoot with my dinky analog sticks. |

Skill.
There are the people who play Dust because they have blood red eyes and don't care about anything but shooting and killing.
Then there are gamers. Gamers who have been tested throughout the years by RPGs and platformers.
Gamers whose hand-eye-coordination are so in sync from gaming their whole lives they will win at any fighter game hands down.
I know I sound like I'm making a speech here, but I'm starting to see the Eve elements of Dust come out tonight, and understanding the RPG elements of a MMOFPS that's also at its roots a RPG is going to separate the winners from the losers.

Both are equally important. With high skill points and expensive gear but a lack of real skill any player can be taken out with just a little but of tactical work (or a grenade) With good skills but poor equipment you will not stand a chance vs other skilled well equipped players.

This isn't an argument. Its skill points. End of story. It's why most people are here, they can't hack it in CoD or BF where skill and fast responses matter. |

There is a different between some 6 year old spastic kid playing a FPS and who he is really referring too.
I have two 3m SP chars, it's not easy matching up against high SP players which my 17m SP char can handle with ease. The advantages provided by SP far far outweighs a skillful player running one of those starter fits.
I can pick up any CoD or BF game on XBox, a system i have played only a handful of times and do well. When i picked up dust, it was 5 months of pure struggle and domination by guys like xxshotsxx and imperfects. When i reach that 25-26m SP plateau when you max out your suit, there's no question SP owns. |

This is FPS games, the game could start new players with just their fists and give vets a BFG and the vets are still going to say it was skill that bested the new players. Ego and smack talk is tandamount to FPS games and pretty much gaming in general. These kinds of topics will always bring out everyones inner Epeen. |

thomas mak wrote:Crimson Cerberes wrote:isk. isk means more than skill or sp. well I use medic the starter fit You know the suit you run doesn't necessarily define how much SP you have, right?
I can use the Medic STARTER FIT on a character with 19293832847384363278362383 SP if I can get that much SP. Having maxed out AR skills doesn't prevent me from running a Militia AR. Being able to run a Prototype Scout doesn't make my Standard Scout fittings magically become invalid.
You can say "SP doesn't matter because I use Starter Fits" all you want, but if you've got 12 million SP and most of it is invested in core skills and the skills which buff your Starter Fit's weapons, that entirely negates your argument.
SP does give a player some benefit. So does gear. Skill gives MORE benefit than SP or gear, but the combination of the two can tip the balance if the skill difference isn't massive.
There is no single factor that you can point to which will ALWAYS decide a battle. |

Skill itself. If you know how to flank and catch people off guard, you can do well in a suit in a militia suit. What will suffer is your ability to go toe to toe with people as HP and damage go up with SP. This means that a Heavy is probably a bad choice for this. However, a Medium or Light suit that can get behind the enemies and take them out is clearly quite effective. If you are a sniper, skill as well. If you can always pull off headshots with a militia sniper, you are doing more damage than someone using prototype gear.
Of course, the good player playing a character with 25 million SP is a true terror.

It doesn't really matter in the end. All SP does is accentuate skill.
