the main reason is the fact that it is the only gun in its class so it has to do more damage then it really should like the ar of old back when the ar was the only rifle. the shotgun is a shield weapon but you can't really tell when using it in battle because of the high damage which is necessary due to the fact that there is no other shotguns in the game at the moment. really a standard or advance shotgun shouldn't be able to kill an armor tanked dropsuit in 2 or 3 shots but since there is not a rail or projectile shotgun the high alpha damage is necessary to keep balance between ttk on different suits. once the other variants come out the damage can be tuned down to be in line with the new guns.
I don't like the Amarr but boy do they have style

How many shotguns did you see pre-1.8? Not many.

Not many. the hit detection was messed up on them in 1.7. scouts would still kill you just as fast if you saw them after decloaking fasters plus most of the time they shot you in the back so even if it took longer to shoot after decloaking the result would be the same. and i didn't say they were unbalanced i said they seem unbalanced i think they're perfectly balanced right now

The shotgun is fine due to the fact that everything further away then 5 meters takes like allmost no damage. The thing which makes it work is that you can get up close with a cloak and then use it for its full potential. Before that you barely saw any 1 using that thing.

Yeah the shotgun is fine, its range is seriously horrendous so it should do a lot of damage. Insta-decloak and then shooting is really the issue with shotguns. There should be a delay before you can fire or use equipment after decloaking.

Considering the drawbacks I don't fine the current form of cloaks imbalanced. I think its pretty balanced (now that the hacking glitch is gone).
The reason you see more SG kills now is that with the cloak the SG becomes a viable weapon (when it works whats rarely the case).
In an open engagement the SG gets still beaten by any rifle within its optimal (unless you encounter a very squishy fit) and with the current optimal of 4m its hard to get there just to get shredded by rifles.... |

Shot guns have not changed. There are more now is because a scout can navigate a map safer now thanks to the cloak. Before this patch, when I used a shot gun I was always killed by some random red 50m away while I was closing the distance on my target.
Now random reds don't see me as much, I get behind my target, and he dies. Simple as that.

I thought it was because the shotgun didn't recieve a nerf like the rest of the guns. Plus now you have highly effective scouts who can slap on a cloak and hide in some dark corner

shotguns are fine. the word shotgun is universal for ( if im next to you you are f*ck*ng dead BRO). shield based or not the shotty is the ultimate point blank gun why should it be any different in dust.

Pretty much this. Before if you were caught out in the open with a shotgun, you died. They were really only viable in city maps where you had enough cover to reach your target and get within optimal range. The cloak has made it so it's much easier to get within your optimal without dying. |

The "problem" here is that players aren't watching out for cloaked enemies, and are blaming the cloak for their own lack of observation skills. If you're looking for a cloaked enemy, you can see them easily. If they have a Shotgun, you can see them easily from well outside the range where they can hit you with the Shotgun, meaning you can kill them before they can shoot you. Before, this was a massive problem because with no cloaks, there wasn't such an easy way to exploit bad players, so you had to be a good Scout to run a Shotgun effectively, or you had to camp and/or fight in built-up environments which force CQC encounters.
As players learn to look for cloaked targets, the Shotgun FOTM-ness will gradually die out when people stop getting away with their "cheap" kills. |

Before 1.8 you almost never saw the shotgun in the kill feed. Since 1.8 they've added additional shield damage, but nerfed rate of fire. Which for the most part balances it self. So why all the QQ? because now you can actually get in optimal range without being insta-gibbed by just about any weapon with stacked damage mods. The shotgun doesn't need a nerf of any kind, It's just that most of you have lost your damage modded rifle of a crutch, & have yet to adapt. |

That would be awesome, because unlike infantry, tanks are XBOX huge, and vehicle clacks would be more like a novelty than a must have.
