Wow. PARK likes the LR. Specifically ELM Layzer. On my scout suit. Did a modified copy of Rogers fit;
ELM Basic G-1 scout basic SMG Fluxes ADV armor & shield
So, if you haven't tried it, try it. I just don't want it to turn back into Layzer 514.

He preheated on you.
And yeah I am taking down heavies with a fully concentrated beam at long range.....though overheats at targets like that are essentially assured.

I got a guy from somewhere between a little and a lot of range away. In less than 7 seconds he was incapacitated.

I like my gold and my lasers, so maybe not the best fit on paper, but it's fun. And I play for the fun. Plus I get 10% damage bonus to the lazer from my commando suit! plus my lvl 5 lazer skill giving me 25% cool down bonus and my prof 5 in lazers giving me 15% shield bonus damage makes for a nasty beam of death. 135% efficiency to shields with 10% damage bonus does hurt.

Preheating is a technique where by the laser user preheats their rifle against something before actually targeting an enemy.
As you know the longer you hold the trigger down the more heat builds up in your weapon and the more damage you do. So using this technique you by pass the lower heat and damage values where you alert the enemy to your presence and instead begin targeting when the damage values are entering their upper limits resulting in a very short TTK
However the technique is not forgiving. Over heats are frequent, and if you cannot adequately target the enemy during the second or two you have to aim you have wasted your time.
Those "insta-deaths" by laser are skilled Preheating players.
Its best used when enemies are entrenched in cover and minimal beam time on them is likely. Not only will it have a shot at killing them before they duck back into cover, but it scares the living **** out of them.

Be careful with that LR on a scout, it does feedback and it really hurts on a scout. That said, I had a scout with a LR for a while and it works but it is difficult to use because the suit can't let the weapon heat up and not get dropped. I am glad to see you like the LR, I have been using then since the day they were introduced. It takes a little practice but they are awesome when used correctly.

+1
It also works great as crowd control, as you get better with it you will really like it. It is unique and needs to be used differently than a normal rifle but it does work great and it does make people run from that horrible frying sound.

Didn't realize that was how the dmg build up worked. I thought it had to be sustained dmg on the opponent. This is awesome.

Nope, its directly tied to the length of time the weapon is fired as to my knowledge, there is no need to score any hits on the enemy until you feel ready to engage them.
