Hi,
I'm having a bit of difficulties figuring out who can I scan and at what level with my active scanner. First off my gallente logistic is at level 5 so I'm getting the full bonus. I want o know how much will the advance scanner will be able to scan as in how much does a scout has to invest before they can hide from my scanner? Lets say I use the A-45 quantum scanner which says it has a precision of 36DB and a gallente bonus of 27DB. So here are my questions.
#1 On the cheat sheets it says all scout start with a profile of 35db Does this means that even a basic scout can be hidden from this particular scanner without being a gallente logi? is 1db below the teshhold.
#2 What about the gallente? At advance level (level 3) it gets a 15% scan profile reduction. Add an advance profile dampener for a total of 35%. That puts this little guy at about 19dB. This meants that in order to scan an advance gallente with 1 advance profile dampener you need a proto-scanner. This seems ridiculous to me. Even a regular scout with a level 5 profile dampener sill and 1 advance profile dampener can still sneak in below the scaner.
The question is then is the active scanner even worth it? In order to scan your biggest threat you need a proto level scanner (if I understood it correctly) but, why would you spend that level of ISK for a guy that only cost 20k isk?

Scanners weren't really made to find stealthy scouts. It was meant to scan an objective to see how well dug in they are. Think about it, you scan and you see a bunch of reds, you'll avoid that spot until the odds are more favorable, won't you?

When 1.8 first released, there was a ton of people running scout suits both dampened and undampened getting under all kinds of scans. Some people say the scout is a fad, and numbers will die down. If they do, the active scanner becomes more viable.
As it stands now, I wouldn't run a scanner unless you were guarding an objective with support, and with a higher end scanner. Problem is the false sense of security that could arise from it.
I heard somewhere that a caldari scout 5ed out in the proper skills and equipment can get down bellow 9 db.

Your math on stealth is wrong. You don't "add" the 15% suit-bonus to the 20% dampener bonus.
Here's the math: Gal Scout at LVL 5: 35 * 0.75 = 26.25db (27db) Non-Gal-Scout: 35db
Gal-Scout at LVL 5 with Profile Dampening-Skills at 5: 26.25db * 0.9 = 23.63db (24db) Non-Gal-Scout with Profile Dampening at 5: 35 * 0.9 = 31.5db (32db)
So a Gal-Scout just needs LVL 5 in suit and Profile Dampening to avoid your GalLogi-Scanner
Further: Gal-Scout LVL 5 with Profile Dampening at 5 and 1 complex dampener: 23.63 * 0.75 = 17.72 (18db) Non-Gal with same setup: 23.63db (24db)
I believe that the "best" scanner with GalLogi LVL 5 beats 15db. A Gal-Scout can avoid this with 2 complex dampeners (14db), a non-Gal-Scout will hit 14.74db = 15db and will be scanned (4 complex dampeners needed)
So, Gal-Scouts can hide from everything, the other 3 not

They share the range bonus but Gal gets damps and Cal get precision.

Well look, a non game designer talking about CCP's game design intentions.
If you didn't understand where I was going with this, you can completely disregard everything said by this imbecile, since he/she has no idea what they are talking about.

So a non-Gal scout needs 3 complex dampeners or 2 and a cloak to be unscannable?
WTF man, this is bullshit, I thought they took the knife bonus away from Min and gave it profile dampening. I was considering skilling into it but now I don't think so.

As non-Gal Scout: 2 complex damps = 19db, with cloak active = 14db, so yes, you're right.

The big letters gives it and the small letters takes it away. Yes, the minmatar scout does not have the profile dampening but, you instead you the a 5% hacking bonus per level. If you level up the profile dampening skill to 5 and at least a profile dampener you will be invisible to most people. You can then sneak in and capture a letter in 5 seconds (with a code breaker)and get out noticed. The way I see it thus far (my own personal opinion) is that the minmatar is for capturing, the gallente is for attack since you can armor tank and the caldari is for counter measures. I don't get the Amar at all at any suit level. |

I'd say they're the least used as to what I've seen so far. |
