Something similar happened to me in 1.6.
Flying my Python, sitting their trying to shoot enemies, and someone starts shooting at me with a Lazor Rifle.
They took out at least one fourth of my Shields. :'( |

I remember back in Chromosome you could strip a Sica's shield with 2 or 3 Viziams.

I've taken a long break from the game, but after the 1.8 update, I logged in and created a LR fit with AV grenades. I think (have not confirmed) that the combo might be affective against LAV that are close up. LR at close range is supposed to do more damage, so take down the shields and then throw two AV grenades on it (1500ish points + 20% dmg bonus to armor) to finish the job.

I might have to try something like that. If only Commandos had grenades... I'll see what a Viziam + Complex mod + Amarr commando can do to one.
