Every time I play I'm constantly killed by cloaked scouts...even with precision enhancers I still can't see the majority of them and I seriously don't know what to do.
It's ruining my gameplay experience, I can't play any other roll, and so many players run scout now who don't need logisical support that my efforts are wasted.
I mean I pull out a core focused on my minmatar logi and all of a sudden a scout comes and kills my heavy is 2 shots without even trying, then one shot to my face and I'm dead again.
Do you run precision enhancers to try and counter scouts? are you having more luck with a specific type of scanner? I just seriously can't stay alive for more than 10 seconds out of spawn even with a group of heavies because of how fast I die in 1.8. Even if I survive a scout attack the next guy kills me with his militia AR because I only have 50 armor left. Some of these scouts even have more HP than I do, making it even harder to defend myself.
dampeners? range amplifiers? I'm at a loss and I'm about to give up on logistics all together because of how impossible for me it is now.
In 1.7 I loved how fun it was for me to support the team, and now it doesn't even seem worth it.
Well, first off remember that you can fit a cloak too, and with advanced Min logi you can run a decent poor man's scout. Some days...if you can't beat 'em, join em.
Secondly, don't despair. There are a lot more scouts out there now but there are also a lot more heavies, and all you really need is One Good Heavy. By good I mean one who basically knows how to play heavy and aim the HMG, who will remember he has a logi with a rep tool behind him, who will work in tandem with you (i.e. try to keep you alive too), and who won't run into kill zones like a douchenoob. Preferably someone in your own corp that you're used to running with. If there aren't enough good heavies in your corp...find another corp today.
Third, if you get Precision 5 and fit 2 complex precision enhancers you'll be able to see scouts with dampening 5, as long as theyre not cloaked, damped, and/or Gallente. That doesn't help you with the cloakers but it might help. I don't know. I'm still experimenting with it.
Fourth, have three grades of fits. If you're just running with strangers, go in with your cheapest standard suit that still has an advanced repper. If you find a Good Heavy, upgrade to advanced dropsuit with either advanced or proto repper. If you're running with Two Good Heavies (that's what you want all the time!) then try running proto suit and tool.
Fifth, if you're soloing pubs, start a public squad that is only for heavies, logis, and scouts and tune it so that you end up with 2 heavies, two logis, and 2 scouts...or at least one of each.
Sixth, assuming you're in range to be repping your heavy, NEVER stand still and always be looking around in all directions for cloakers. Practice for this with a scout or logi friend by having them run around near you in your red line. Try to see their shimmer and not let them sneak up on you and tag you with their shotgun before you at least start shooting them. Oh wait...you'll see their chevron. Damn! That was almost genius.
Seventh, as much as possible, get from A to B with your heavy in an LAV, preferably one with decent mods for tank, speed, and/or scanning. And there are three seats in an LAV, which brings us to the final point....
Whenever possible, you should travel in a mini-squad of at least 3 AT ALL TIMES. You--the logi--One Good Heavy, and.....a scout (preferably Caldari) fitted for passive scans that will pick up cloaked scouts. As long as the scout hangs near you you'll see what he's seeing on scan and most scouts will be revealed (and owned). Unfortunately the Cal scout is the only one who can see scouts that are double damped (i.e. cloaked Gallente, other scouts that are both dampened and cloaked) because only they can get down to passive scan 18. Other scouts--and maybe Gallente logis, via active scan snapshots...I guess-- can get down to precision 24, which is what you need to detect a scout who is either dampened or cloaked but not both.
Try your best to get that trio together whenever you play. It may take some sheepdogging to keep the scout with you and you may need to train that heavy to not act like a medium frame but you'll have success. Tell us how it goes. Try to get a second heavy with you and run a Six Kin.

Also pretty much what Zax said but with less words.
LOL I'll add a tl;dr later. I'm exhausted from writing all that. |

el OPERATOR wrote: 1st is that if you set your tv to one of the low-res settings (as advised by more than one thread poster not too long ago) to compensate for PC framerate issues, change that sh*t back, HD will let you see the cloak shimmers.
2nd I'd say we really need to be aware in a 360 degree sphere around ourselves and our squad now more than ever. Corner check always and don't be shy about pinging a couple rounds down/into seemingly "clear" corners or halls. SMG (for clip size) is a good homie here.
3rd This'll sound weird, but in addition to keeping your back against a wall as much as possible while repping, watch behind your group as much as the leash will allow without breaking. And (the maybe weird part) when your heavy is mobile from one area to another be as close as you can behind him, running backwards so you can guard that fat azz from threats that'll pop out after you two pass. It takes some getting used to, but I've popped or ID'd countless enemies this way while running back and forth with heavies.
And remember a 360 degree sphere is your awareness model, cloaks capitalize best on those with "tunnel vision"
And, of course, get those passive coreskills up (in case you haven't) for range and amplification, it'll let you get the mods and boost all your suits anyways. I know passive won't pick up everyone but you'll get some of them, and if it saves you so you can save someone else once then its worth it.

I do all of these things and more, yet scouts just seems to appear out of nowhere and take out our entire squad. It's just that even if I do spot them early on, by the time I've gotten them down to half health they're already within shotgun range of me and then I'm dead. Same thing as I'm playing my heavy. Dude I've been there. It will happen but listen....when you see the shimmer or the dampened scout coming at you, don't shoot. Run away! Run to the other side of your heavy from the scout while repping him and calling out the scout's location. Never shoot at them unless you ran from them and they chased you down and you had to keep running and somehow your heavy didn't take them down through all this and you're out of rep range and engaging is the smart choice. Use your speed to your advantage and make the scout chase you down while being sprayed by an HMG.
Repeat: do NOT shoot at them. Keep repping your heavy and run away!
That's also another reason you should always have the scout filling out your trio. The enemy scout may focus on you and take you down but if your friendly scout survives the engagement he can res you. |

RydogV wrote:Logi is a bit underwhelming for me now. I went from a Triage focused Minmatar Logistics to a Gallente Logistics focused on Scanners. I don't run Repair Tool anymore and I feel it in-game where I am often in the bottom half of the leaderboard each match now. While my team appreciates my scans, it's rare to get a significant amount of Intel Kill Assists and at 15 WP each they take awhile to add up even if I do. Since Scanners really are scaled back and rare it would be nice to see the WP associated with them get a little love. I doubt it will happen, but dare to dream.
Anyway, 1.8 has not been much fun for me so far. Intel scan assist WP need to go up absolutely. They're a lot harder to come by now. |

This allows them to utilize the suit however they want and still get appropriate bonuses for their roles.
Assaults and Logis on the other hand are slapped in the face with these terrible bonuses that only apply to a SINGLE weapon or equipment class, and if you choose to forego that class for something else because you like to customize your suit. Well CCP has decided to give a big **** you.
The bonuses are so weak. The stats are hardly justified. Just about everything about medium suits is outclassed by light and heavy frames. Poster board material for the what is wrong with 1.8 discussion .
Yeah they made heavies a lot stronger (though we'll see because I guess their HP will be nerfed?) and they made scout a LOT stronger, while they weakened logis and assaults overall, except for one aspect.
Heavies = Could take and give damage well before, now can still dish out damage and can take a lot more.
Scouts = Had trouble fitting before and were always getting scanned down, now shadows of death with more HP and either able to see all within 35 meters or be invisible to all
Assault = Were the most versatile. Didn't stand out really but neither did anything else so in the end they had a balanced role. Now they have pigeonhole bonuses that stifle their versatility and, unlike lights and heavies, haven't been otherwise buffed so they end up stuck in mediocrity. Basically they're just slower, higher profile, less precision, no scan range, can't cloak versions of scouts right now. Oh they have more HP but that's not helping them at all.
Logistics = Were able to perform all logistic roles well and could adapt to situations. Now they've had every logi role diminished but one, which has been made slightly better...and have no passive rep. They've been weakened in several areas, strengthened in one (but not one that helps with survivability) and left to get by with less on a more dangerous battlefield.
Medium frames are UP right now. Hopefully efforts will be made to balance the scales. |
