Tell me what the difference is. Seriously. ...besides the fact that active scanners broadcast to your squad...if you're running solo it really is the same thing.
If you complained about 24/7 360 ACTIVE scans in 1.7 Then why are you not complaining about 24/7 360 PASSIVE scans in 1.8? ______________________________________
The main argument against me so far is this:
"Scouts are supposed to SCOUT, duh"
Recon, gathering intel...makes sense. But when were these things only for personal gain? If a scout is supposed to scout, then shouldn't they at least be able to share that info with the squad?
But wait we can't have that because then we have the same problem we had with active scanners. ______________________________________
What I'm more annoyed about than anything is how I constantly die now from shotguns without a chance to react. TTK was increased so now we've reverted to weapons that kill you almost instantly.
The rare chances I can actually turn around to shoot back the scout has so much health that I either survive with a sliver of armor or die because of the increased TTK of my weapon against these light assaults.
I can't even run my support logi because scouts can sneak behind the group of heavies I'm with and take me out before I can even communicate this over comms. Not even my proto scanner can detect them with a cloak, which makes me wonder how I'm supposed to counter scouts in the first place.
Oh wait that's right, I should just skill into a scout myself if I even want a chance at surviving more than 10 seconds after I spawn now from yet another scout.
Doesn't matter if you're a sentinel or a logi, you die by shotguns all the same.

Scout passives scans have always been this way. It just so happens that everyone is scout now.

I'm a logi and I have yet to die by a shotgun. I've gotten clipped a few times by knives though.

Scout passive scanning does share actually. I tested it with a squad.
Anyway, the difference is that a passive scanning suit gives up module slots to do so, unlike a brick Gal Logi that gets both 360 visibility and over 1000 eHP.
My intentions is to have a fun game for everyone.
If I seem to be biased, I have good hard data to back it up.

Yeah, my scanning has always been this way. Level 5 in all scan skills.
So what's the differance?
Your not gimping yourself when you have a active scanner. That's why every Logi had that piece of super equipment. You could scan up to 100 meters, and still have 4-5 plates or whatever else you want in the lows.
A scout has to sacrifice low slots, which house damps, kincats and cardio mods. All of which are very important to a scout. Nobody cared about passive scans because everyone used scanners.

Exactly. Scout passive scans and shotguns work the exact same way they always have. People really need to stop crying over things that haven't changed.
My favorite complaint is "The shotgun kills me before I can react!" Well... it's a shotgun with range less than spitting distance. It better kill damn fast or there's no point in using it. |

This^
Also with max range amplification and scan precision skills, a logi can get pretty decent (shared) passive scans too now!

Passive scans have always been better than active, which is why they require 3x the SP, HP sacrifice, and a specific suit class to be viable :) |

Actually, it's not nearly as bad because:
A) It doesn't show up on your screen which I like B) It doesn't work with every suit, just scouts with high precision or a Caldari Scout C) Gallente Scouts don't need to have 4 CPX Dampners to dodge everything anymore, including Caldari Scouts or Logi Duvolle Focused
That is all. |

Max passive scan range is around 100m on proto gallente with all lows filled with complex range amps. In order to scan scouts, this suit needs to add precision enhancers, using up even more of their slots, possibly ALL OF THEM, leaving around 250 eHP = wow scary. [/sarcasm]
So, no, it's nowhere near as powerful as any active scanner, which by the way anyone can use and it only takes up one slot.

Passive scan is good.
To OP .. shotgun should kill you in 1-3 (3for brick tanked badly) because its freaking shotgun with range of your arm lenght.
I dont use them and havent been killed yet by them, because spotted shotty is dead shotty. |

For clarification I already knew this, but what has changed in 1.8 is that the "scrubs" now have to use scouts in order to have the HUGE advantage of seeing the whole battlefield instead of just sticking a scanner on a stacked logi suit. This is why we're seeing a ton of stacked scout suits too, because these "scrubs" can't use their scanners anymore and have resorted to scouts, therefore REINSTATING THE PROBLEM that these passive scans present. ______________________________________ http://youtu.be/YLA2friU70MTell me what the difference is. This, can confirm scout passives show for squad. Well I tested this just before 1.8 actually but it was that when then.
They also did up the range a bit I think on passives with 1.8. However there problem if any is not there ewar ability but probably that they are a little too tanky. |

You need to check what the suit range is for passive scanning... Even with skills maxed and a complex range amplifier...
*HINT*Your radar has Circles for a reason.
Edit* And yes Squad Sight has always been a thing with passive scans... That's why when you jump into a game solo you grab a squad anyway... So you can see more things... Knowledge is power on the battlefield.

Relying too much on the passive scanner may do you more harm than good, especially now that there are a lot more scouts (not as many dampened mediums though). In fact, for this very reason I wish they'd give a slight buff to the scan range of all suits -- makes it easier to sneak up on people in a dampened fit ;). |
