This is getting stupid. This lag from interregion mixing needs to end. I am all for a global game but it is unplayable. Coming from one who has spent $200+ on this game I should have some say. Asians and Europeans are ruining the American server. Everyone keeps complaining about lag and here is your source. Until you fix the networking to stop favoring high latency this game will be sh*t

Excuse me, but don't think that the American server would be fixed even after segregating the servers. Why? America, despite the fact that it's the birth place of the internet, has the lamest internet connection of all time and its Tier 2 ISPs are too lazy and greedy to spend a penny to upgrade this country's out-of-date internet infrastructure.
For all we know, it's probably us Americans slowing down the rest of the servers because of this BS from Comcast, Verizon, and others like them throughout the nation.

I get 0 lag in 90-95% of my matches... when I do get lag, 3-6% of the time it is just frame drops or something else, which could be described as a server 'burp' where the server might have been weighted down briefly. The remain 1 or so % of the time, it can be described as brutal lag... but if you removed the time i've spent in PC from the equation... 98% of all pub matches run smoothly with the remaining 2% experiencing small pockets of weirdness.
Invest in a better net connection.

You are wrong sir. The problem is not only with them, it is built into CCP network architecture.
The first piece of information you haven't shared is why are you stating your position and what previous experience makes you think this is solvable? Because if one considers that Dust is running on CCP/Iceland ruby on rails designed servers nothing on the planet will fix this. I seriously doubt even a decent programmer could fix the problems as it in inherent to their design.
Why? Everything is based on 200ms pings. You target, fire, hit, damage, continue or stop and all of those actions are limited by the current network design. To overcome the problem the only solution they could have chosen is to Predict Actions of Both Clients. The server resolves things but in what order and with what priority. Well, we will never know that Because Secret. However we do have information on how the game works.
You can get shot and killed even though you have moved behind a corner. That has been true since the beginning of the game. One design solution (not a good design but hey ... Dust!) is to allow the actions started by one client have priority. This means all of his rounds will hit you even though most of them shouldn't. There is up to 800ms of lag built into the system during complex encounters. That is unacceptable so they overcome it by pretending to know what is going to happen and using that result instead. Which is dumb unless wants to produce an absolute deluge of QQ on the forums. Considering that is what happens one might suspect that is what goal was. Is does fit in nicely with HTFU.
Now we have many problems with hit detection, target accuracy, range issues and the ever confusing the pip is orange but no damage happens (because of map/mesh issues 99% of the time). The map/mesh is bad, it definitely has improved but has never approached the quality of maps in any other FPS I have played. Not even close. At least it is better now. Sort of not good but not as terrible as it was. Your opinion may well vary.
To service all the customers for their click and point in spaaace spreadsheet game of 'Gankers In Spaaace' several standard assumptions had to be thrown away. Kitten, they are even proud of forcing an entire server into 90% lag mode (search google CCP time dilation) which is nothing more than admitting they could not handle the load but refused to fix it the normal way.
Admittedly many of the issues can amplify when battles that involve actual players running on PS3s from various continents that need to shoot at other players on unknown continents can aggravate the problem. Locking those out of a match will not solve the real problem. Too many Mercs, bullets, vehicles and only the gods know what else are adding to the batches of crap that must be handled but 30 FPS means responses should be in 33ms. That is both ways. We are in New Eden where responses start at 200ms. I have done the math for you. With the current situation we have down here in the Dust; This is as good as it gets.

I have posted on this topic before, however it continually gets pushed aside with other people whining. This is important, this is the game. and in regards to the "AFK Oceania" if there are not enough people in that region then shift the matchmaking to include the next closest region. What needs to be done is the removal of the option to change servers OR stop penalizing me for having low latency. Until this fix happens you'll find me on the asian servers tearing sh*t up.

Thank you for actually joining this thread informed.
I understand that lag is unavoidable, but there are ways to exploit it in your favor. I have done it and I shouldn't be able to.

First off let me say that this, I work for an ISP and my company has spent billions on upgrading our fiber optic network with a fiber to RF conversion with a fiber hybrid cable system. Over 10 states in this upgrade, pushing for speeds over 300 Mbps for next yr alone, not sure where you get your info from but Tier 2, really! Really they have nothing to do with that kind of upgrade Tier 2 if for technician in the field! Now the NOC and maintenance that is a different story.
I really can't speak for COMCAST but I can tell you this, any time we buy a network that they have setup we spend another billion fixing there junk!
That Link for that vid them guys really don't know what they are talking about! They have about half the info, if you are having issues with your connection call Tier1 tech support dips, if you think your connection is the issue got to www.speedtest.net or http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ if you are not getting what you are paying for call your ISP and let them know they are not psychic and how are they going to know you have an issue if you don't tell them.
If you are not having an issue with your connection and your ISP says all your signals are OK then there is something else going on.
As for my connection after I started with my company I had to have them come out 3 times before they got it right. But I can tell you this my connection with my RF to fiber signals are right with-in optimal signals and I still get lag on the game! |

Dust does not run on "200ms pings". What you're probably thinking of is the tick system used on EVE, which is normally 1hz (1 second) when time dilation isn't in effect. Dust does utilise Tranquility for certain things, such as fittings assets and corporations, but when battles load they're held on completely seperate servers.
There are server clusters set up as the regional battle servers, and to my knowledge they're just using a typical server side multiplayer game model - similar to Battlefield 3 and 4. There certainly isn't any reason to incorporate any tick system into Dust, and I can assure you that battles would feel a hell of a lot laggier if it was the case. |

This is precisely why I know it is not my internet. I get 120Mb/s down and a throttled 5Mb/s up that doesnt budge from there even when I run dust and a minecraft server. Being a merc in dust with low latency acts to my disadvantage.
The lag I am talking about isn't applying to the entire match, I'm talking about individual players/squads that when I shoot point blank at their avatar, there is not hit marker, no damage, no nothing, because they really aren't there. They are a body width or two to either side. Take a cheap light suit. Change your region to one that isn't yours and find out how many circles you can run around the enemy with the new latency

why would i want to out side of my region and hope that the international fiber connection that in my case runs up to a CIA main server and logs all traffic making the lag run international pings up to 200+ do your self a fav and stick to your own region if there isnt any matches in your region why you on here and not out getting more players to play with :P |
