I've played Planetside 2, and I absolutely love the game. Massive scale combat, 64 square kilometers of explorable terrain, 3 unique Races. The list goes on and on, and I believe it has immense potential. The Devs have a solid road map, clearly laid out and planed, and a much more transparent company when it comes to information if you're comparing them to CCP. Of course, I still very much enjoy Dust and will be here till the wits end, I know I'll be taking a much wanted break from Dust when planetside gets released for PS4, it'll be amazing!

PS2 is a pretty shallow game. It has more polish than DUST, but it lacks depth and meaning. Fits and classes are all cookie-cutter, there is no risk vs. ISK. You unlock an upgrade and you have it forever, there is never the ability to downgrade stuff to make cheaper fits or to make fitting tradeoffs. You can cap all of the objectives in grueling fights all day only to have them all taken back at 4am by a few guys ninja hacking stuff. Deaths have no meaning, and people just seem to throw themselves at the enemy over and over without much concern for self-preservation.
The one thing PS2 did get very right is Jetpacks. They are a ton of fun and add depth and verticality to combat. I hope DUST gets these one day.
Best PvE idea ever!

I went light assault, was fun to be a flanker and stuff until you encounter a max suit and then you die. Or when you and a small squad infiltrate a position and take out a shield generator and your going for the first point to a facility and then you encounter a max suit and you all die. Or your epically defending a position from hordes of tanks and infantry and a max suit breaks through your line kills your tanks and starts taking the base.
I played PS2 for a day and I never want to log back in. It has a tutorial, and as bare-bones as it is its very existence makes the PS2 NPE better than DUST's. There is also the VR room where you can test everything in the game, and the trial feature to test something in heated combat. Seeing as you only played for a day I'll cut you some slack, but if you ever fired at a forcefield, you were doing it wrong. And if MAXes were your main problem and they slaughtered your tanks, you and your armor were both doing it wrong. A MAX will die to a single well placed C4, and will die almost instantly if he is alone against a squad. They are huge and nigh impossible to miss, and can be heard clomping up on you from 50 meters plus. They also only have CQC weapons; NC with a shotgun, TR with a chaingun, and VS with a laser LMG. Also, it is physically impossible for a MAX to take anything, let alone a whole base. They cannot capture points, cannot hack terminals, cannot sabotage generators, and cannot drive vehicles. They also cannot function alone because they have paltry ammo reserves and no HP regeneration, as well as moving at a snail's pace between buildings. They can't even do anything while sprinting/coming out of sprint because they count as a vehicle and have to fully decelerate to walking speed in order to fire their guns. Not trying to say you suck at FPSs, but if you had such problems with MAXs you probably just plain suck at PS2 Well as a new player to PS2 it was a horrible NPE. The tutorial was very basic shoot enemies this is how you move. Then said push I for instant combat and dropped me directly into a group of enemy tanks, max suits, and infantry without a single friendly for miles. Yeah, great NPE. I looked all over for this practice ground but couldn't find it, that might have been useful info in the tutorial. Other things that might have been useful was explaining the map and spawning system as well as the types of objectives and those fing jump pads which took me forever to find. It explained how an fps worked in the most simplistic terms, not how ps2 worked.
From what I experienced max suits were able to do everything, they were basically tanks and killed anything in their way. I saw four friendlies gunned down and a max suit came over the hill and I knew I was dead. Most battles came down to who brought the most max suits. For me every awesome moment i had was stopped by a max suit or suits.
The force fields were the only place any enemies were, we surrounded them and they his inside spawn which then happened to our team when purple players got on. It was very dull. |

I played PS2 and was not really that impressed. The fits are all cookie cutter, and you can't change them much. It is normally just a zerg fest. There is no meaning when I would die. Just re spawn and go until I die again. Not enough depth to keep me interested in it for long. So I came back to dust where I get most of what I'm looking for. |

There is a difference between Finished Product and Unfinished Product. If you liked RPGs, World of Warcraft probably feels like a completed game no matter how many new islands of newly flavored bears they add on. If you like spaceships, EVE Online probably feels like a completed game no matter how many new roles they create (legitimizing my mining was pretty cool tho.). If you like Final Fantasy, FFXIV is probably a pretty complete experience.
DUST is not completed on any level. They just added in racial parity for suits, and even those are bugged and broken to pieces. Vehicles are in a half-assed state, with no variety and lack of counter-options. Team sizes are locked at a number too small to justify HAV's power, mercs hump the ground like it's the New Eden national pasttime, and of the small number of viable weapons we have, many have their roles superseded by other, more generally effective armaments. ARs are a joke, Large Blasters are useless against vehicular shields (which blasters have an affinity for), I can go on. This game isn't even MMO finished.
Shields as Weapons
Zelda Dynasty Warriors is a real thing.

So many dust haters in this thread. Do you guys remember we got this game FOR FREE. We all know this is the BETA for DUST 514 PS4. Remember when you were babies (I dont expect you to) and you fall when you were learning to walk?. Guess what, CCP is learning and we need to thank them for allowing us to be in the process. Punch a bag if you want to grief, but dont say hate comments that you will later repent.
As for my vote, I do not play PS2 but from what I can tell, It is what it is, a MMO shooter. Fun, but it reaches a point. DUST has limitless potential, just needs some time and PATIENCE.

At least Planetside 2 actually has air vehicles with a bit of variety, as opposed to a stupidly controlled helicopter it's almost impossible to make money with.
At least Planetside 2's developers seem competent, like they know what they're doing, instead of jumping into a genre they clearly have no knowledge in and screwing what seems like the most basic of concepts up.
At least Planetside 2's developers don't hide behind vague empty promises and brush away their failure to produce new and meaningful content with "SoonTM!"
Most Dust players that I've talked to about PS2 said they prefer Dust over several different reasons. It's not a contest anyways. Both games offer two different things.

You can't compare this games. On a is arena based the other is open map. Dust: a)arena fights b)more tactical fights c)if you die you lose something d)better lag management e)continuous player driven economy and ownership of the map f) skill tree characters
Ps2: a)open map b)mass scale warfare c)more vehicles with different roles d)terrible lag management e)map resets after sever downtime f) lvl characters
about the vehicles ps2 has more but in dust they feel right (using them)
about the lag in dust you notice the lag but you see the at hers 1-2 meters from there actual position in ps2 you don't notice the lag but you see the enemy 5-10 meters from his actual position. watch after 3:40 http://youtu.be/n3fUok2AoaU
the Dust skill tree allows you to make what ever of a character you want only limit CPU/PG and you imagination. thats the main reason dust is so difficult to be balanced.
the lvl based skilling in ps2 makes that the most players have the same character but the game is balanced. |

Ps2 launches april 2nd I believe. Nope. There has still yet to be an official release date announced. They even pushed it back from "early 2014" to "first half of 2014".http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2014/01/27/soe-president-confirms-everquest-next-for-ps4-planetside-2-on-ps4-expected-in-the-first-half-of-2014/
I can't even find a reliable report of when the beta will be released. This seems to be the MO of every anticipated shooter now.Destiny is the only one that has a set release date, yet no official date for the open beta. There has been absolutely nothing about when The Division is coming out.Planetside 2 has been pushed back and no release date, just a vague "first half 2014".
I really hope that with all of the time taken to make these games that when they are finally released, they aren't a buggy mess that needs a patch on day one.
Now as for the OP's question,I've played a little bit of PS2,and it's an ok game, but at least it feels like it's complete and polished. The one thing that I think people should get ready for with PS2,is that it more than likely will not play like the PC version,in terms of stability.I've been playing BF4 for the last few days, and it's a glitching mess that is at times unplayable, which I hear isn't really the case on PC.I also played a little bit of Blacklight on PS4,and it lags like a b!tch, something that you will not encounter on the PC version.I'm willing to bet that PS2 will be just as laggy and glitchy as BF4 is on console.
That being said,I would rather play any of those than Dust in it's current state.Until there's an open market for trading or the game can run at least 30+ FPS consistently,or both,I no longer have any real interest in playing this game anymore. |

I tried planet side 2, first of all its pay to win so immediately its worse. Has the standard grind to unlock x instead of choosing what you skill into. Worse npe than dust. They have these suits called max suits which basically kill everything, think a min heavy that's even faster with an hmg and a forgegun with an AOE stomp attack.....yeah. The only tactic in ps2 is zerg or be zerged there is no in between. Even in the state dust is in its still years ahead of ps2 |

Persistence?
Map resets and rotation is getting rather annoying these days.
Can't join waterson my ping is too high. Supposively they're going to shut matheson down to merge into connery is the current rumor. Either way the rumor of my server shutting down has been around since dec and so far they keep changing the target server.
