1. Ignore that hater. Instead of yelling at you, he should have suggested points to help you.
2. I'm glad you're asking for help on other avenues to help the team other than being a soldier. That's smart of you to know you need skill points under your belt.
If you just want to support for a little while until you get your enough sp to get back into rocking killing, invest conservatively in uplinks and nanohives first.
Uplinks nets you +25 per person that uses your uplink. Even having one of these available is helpful for the team. Since you can only deploy one at a time, your best coarse of action is to find a place on the outskirts of town between your main spawns and the main objectives. That way, you are guaranteed to net quite a few points when all other uplinks fail. This may not sound like it happens a lot, but I know when I run out of uplinks in town, I don't always catch it before that happens. I'm very likely to use yours to get back into town, as would many other blueberries.
NEVER throw your uplink down facing a wall. We spawn in the direction you placed the uplinks. That means if you drop it facing a corner, we spawn in facing the corner. That sucks if we're getting blindsided.
Hives are a great backup. I would hold them until you either have a member that needs them, or you find a high traffic spot where a lot of action is happening. 10+ points per person that reloads at one. If its a hive that heals, you also get +25 for healing them, but that's much higher tier. Don't invest so high if you don't plan on going down the support path. It's very sp expensive but a lot of fun so don't let that scare you.
Injectors and Repair tool go hand in hand. If you want to try these, you should never run one without the other. Injector revives clones but you need to be really smart about using them. If you revive someone just so they could die immediately after, you're really not helping the team. Same with reviving someone and not having a rep tool. So you revived them....now they get to stand in a corner and pray for no redberry to find them. Still not helping. However, if you do skill into these two, you're going down the rabbit hole of support. They by far net you the most sp of any of the equipment if used correctly, but like I said, it won't actually help you on the battlefield with experience. They do help you with spatial awareness (ie, that merc is dead, what killed him?) versus OMG I must kill all the things right in front of me.
TL;DR For being better overall, work on spatial awareness. Learn that running away is a valid tactic that you should use often. Pick up uplinks and nanohives for quick sp to help support the team.
