EZMAC wrote:Hey guys I just started playing this game a few days ago. After playing in a few matches for players "under a certain skill point" I seem to have stepped into a gauntlet. Other players have way more shield and armor and very powerful weapons. I did some reading on that and found that I am now in the mix with every player in the game no matter how many skill points they have so it will be rather difficult to start out.
I am not very effective at killing other players so my main concern is, how do I best support my team without the killing? For these first few months or so while I gain SP I need to be able to help my team some way rather than just running in and getting 0 kills and 20 deaths. Which has happened and I got a lovely mail from one of my team mates who was extremely pissed about me being so horrible.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated and I will try them out. Dropsuit Upgrades tab will be wonderful for you. Core skills to help improve your fittings, Hacking skills to help speed your hacks, mobility skills to get you around the field, armor and shield skills to improve your eHP and passive scan skills... but those are all SP related gains so why am I bringing them up?
The reason I mention those aspects is two fold. 1. Because you'll gain a lot out of putting your SP there rather than trying to go toe to toe with the vets right out of the gate. 2. Because they all fill aspects and roles you can use even before you have the SP.
Running a militia scout with militia sensor mods, mobility mods and a militia uplink won't get you very far slugging it out, but it will give you a viable role to fill on the field and earn you WP which of course translates to faster character development through more ISK and SP.
As a new or low SP character avoid heads up fights or direct confrontation. If you're going to fight do it because you have the advantage in numbers, positioning etc. or simply have no choice. But most often just avoid it and hack, deploy links, use an injector or a repper. Regardless of what suit you're in (aside from the Heavy frame) be a sort of Logi-Scout combo and provide things to your team without entering the hotzone.
Even running a low caliber AV fit and applying some extra fire to hostile vehicles can be of use to suppress them or give that little be extra needed to finish them off or confused their counter attack and it'll earn you some WP for doing damage as well.
One huge thing I've learned with my zero SP alts is that to be successful in a world of PC wrought proto gear I have to either stick with large numbers of my teammates OR avoid my team altogether and try to go stealth to evade combat.
Finally, squad up if you can it'll help you learn faster in a hands on way and it'll ensure you're coordinating with other members of your team and directly providing the support they're after even if you're SP total is low.
I hope that's helpful and feel free to contact me in game if you have any specific questions arise.
Cheers, Cross
