Sorry, I dont buy this 'running straight up to people' stuff.
At distance, while the enemy is distracted, breaking up exposure time by using cover/uneven terrain.
Considering I've had people firing my way even when these conditions are met, I have to doubt how consistently effective running straight up to someone would be.
FOV in general is kinda low and before 1.8 I've ran towards people and must have been just barely out of their periphery and/or they were focused on another part of their screen - I can imagine you could work tighter angles now with cloak, but I think it does require a lapse in focus on the part of the victim. However, an active cloak gives confidence for players to try it more often...
Honestly, I would be happier if they just ditched cloaks and give us a bonus to electronics and Biotics instead.
Frankly, balanced or not, it's too flashy and controversial in nature - unless they nerf it in to the ground, it will always attract a certain level of QQ as well as Tourists.

Invalid reasoning, dumb comments, and denial...
Get good, eyes are OP, be more aware. There's no valid argument here, no real reason to support cloaks other than you suck and they make you good. So now you enjoy being UP, when two weeks ago you sucked. You haven't improved, you've just equipped a cloak.
The cloak is a crutch straight from the CCP hospital, which players have been sending you to for a long time. Just be honest with yourself, the cloak has no drawbacks and rewards poor gameplay.
Bull. Cloaks are crap when used poorly. Anyone who is aware of their surroundings can notice cloaks within 20m. Below is what separates the noob cloakers from the smart ones IMO. Noob cloakers will run straight at the target with a cloak on. Any smart heavy will see the shimmer and light you up. Noob cloakers also try to run straight through an area where fighting is going on. People will be hyper aware in that area, so you are as good as dead. Smart cloakers will not run straight at a target. They will either flank around while cloaked, or if they haven't been noticed, and they aren't close to where the target will walk, they will wait. Wait for them to open their own flank, and then rush them. Smart Cloakers don't run though an area where fighting is going on. They use the cloak to hide their presence at range, and run on the outskirts of the battle. With people actively engaging other targets, they tunnel vision themselves, and have trouble seeing a cloak in their peripherals. Use this to your advantage and decimate a flank. When they start to turn to engage you, run until you break LOS. After that, cloak, and head in a direction that you wouldn't normally head in. It's all about smart tactics and mind games. Welcome to the world of scouts. This I can't even count the number if times I've seen a cloaked scout run straight at me only to get a bolt pistol round to the head |

True. Ghost Kaisar, I had a match against you the other day, and you were a pain in the rear. Got you once, but absolute hat tip on your play. Cloaks aren't that hard to see when you're looking around, but the magic is moving about when people aren't looking at you.
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

I'm a Nova Knife scout, and I use a cloak. Because of this, all I can fit on my suit is a standard Rail Rifle, and advanced Nova Knives... if I have a PG upgrade.
Honestly, my targets couldn't see me even before I got a cloak. I could run behind them for about a minute before they'd even notice that somebody is behind him, and the only time that happened, he thought I was his teammate! Needless to say, he regretted his mistake. The only things I really use the cloak for is hiding from tanks, heavies, sneaking around people that have already seen me (especially if they're decked out in proto gear. Turn the cloak on, scurry away, and hope he follows you to a spot where you can stab him. Then shoot them a few times, because advanced nova knives only do 150 Hp, which is actually the same as a melee attack from a heavy) , and running around stupid people like a jackass before I murder them (You'd be surprised how often that last one happens). |
