personally, i feel it would really dumb down, and dull down the fittings for me.. id really like a different alternative, but as much as i hate to admit it, these ideas really would solve a certain number of problems..
however, they would drastically shorten the dropship lifespan and / or effectiveness on the field, as they would be backing out of the fight to cd mods in order to prevent instant destruction from railguns and what not ..

Yeah.
Vehicle Hardeners themselves needed a nerf. Their abuse wasn't with HAVs, but Dropships and even LAVs as well.
Assault Dropships could simply turn on hardeners and make it to where the only AV weapon that could effect them was the Wyrikomi Breach Forge Gun. But even then, it's charge time is so long that any ADS pilot with a good aim would have the Forge Gunner dead in that time frame.
All it took was the ROF Bonus, a Damage Modifier, Hardener, an Afterburner, and a Shield Booster and you were literally god. Heck, there is even a pilot (Sir Snugglz) that has a fitting that can survive 3x Dmg Modded 80GJ Railguns as well. [citation needed]
Get hit with a Forge Gun? Just break the sound barrier and cling to the Flight Ceiling and pop your Shield Booster. Then just activate your Damage Mod & Hardener and kill everyone in sight. Risk Free.
Now that we've broken the Hardener crutch, let's do something about those Armor Repairers.

It's tough to see how this change will really play out while forge guns and swarm launchers are bugged. My gut tells me they'll be too squishy, as they currently ARE too squishy against redline rails since CCP keeps forgetting that they gave vehicles super damage mods.
Forge guns were just about perfectly balanced against dropships before, at least the Incubus anyways. We still have no infantry anti shield AV weapons, so this change feels more like CCP grasping at straws than much else.
Time will tell I suppose. Right now it's still manageable, you just have very small windows of opportunity now (and I almost never ran two hardeners btw, my fit has pretty much always been plate rep hardener)

well ... thats your perspective of it.
ad a full time ADS pilot, my perspective of the hardener situation is this..
If i do not have a hardener active, i cant survive anything long enough to evade the av or tank that is shooting at me. Most times even while using a hardener, i cannot evade the av fast enough to survive. And if the hardener is not already active, i will instantly be killed by most AV in the game.
So in order for me to remain in the fight and not have to retreat after 10 seconds of combat for an entire minute and a half, i need 2 hardeners. My 3rd module is a shield extender, so that i have the HP to harden.
basically, no harder = instant death. 1 hardener = flying in safety for too long to CD mods. and 2 hardeners = double combat time + survivability vs av.
Its a very tight rope to achieve balance ... so lets hope it goes well.

True but you can always fly over the top of the tank and he can't get you. As for AV a booster and afterburner is enough, the trick is that the control seems to have changed again, so its harder to get the quick landing I used to enjoy doing.
Unless your a Computer Scientist don't tell me how Game Mechanics Work.

you cannot fly over red line rail tanks. and you cannot out maneuver tanks either as a result of their speed. Their speed is fine, but their damage in hand with their speed makes in unfair gameplay and dropships cannot land the firepower to eliminate the tank, and die in the process of trying.
