Average player - 10m SP - haven't used the respec yet.
As I've only every experienced this one patch I'm obviously on a moan about the change in tactics. As an Assault player I feel like I've been cast into the wilderness a bit and normally I run militia stuff to stay ISK positive. So i'm embarassing myself on a game by game basis basically - when I was making progress before the patch.
On the forums it seems a question of honour to NOT go FOTM just because you're getting burned by the spammers. But frankly - why should I suffer?? Should I be speccing into Scout Class and joining in the fun or, in your experience, are these Scouts going to get smacked down in the near future...
Questions... questions...

I play for all three - I really appreciate your advice. I feel like I'm going to abandon assaults any second now...

calisk galern wrote: mhmm, if you are a low sp player it's good for you to create a second and third account with passive sp, use these characters to test stuff before you try them on your main, in my case I just have so much sp I don't care, but that is the best method to start out with.
A trial run would be ideal - I guess the whole respec thing made me wonder if it was worth just forgetting about assaults. Thing is I have the suspicion the moment I ditch Assault class will be the moment I start reading "Hey guess what Assault is FOTM!"

Aramis Madrigal wrote:There are plenty of different reason to select a style/frame/fit, but what other people consider OP/UP shouldn't be one of the criteria. Run what you enjoy. If you have a munchkin streak in you, go ahead run the FOTM. If you're the FPS version of a hipster, run something obscure and tell me that I wouldn't understand. Depending on what end of the assault spectrum you fall on, I would suggest either a tanked scout or commando. If you like to have speed, versatility and good flanking ability, run a tanked scout. If you prefer firepower and the ability to absorb punishment, go commando. Overcoming obstacles that you place in your own path (like selecting sub-optimal frames/fittings) can be fun, but it doesn't provide a legitimate platform to criticize others who want to be as effective as possible and make choices accordingly.

Okay, wise words. I have been hating on Scouts all day long after a bunch of frustrating failures on my part.. But I see the logic in their decisions. Still completely irritated that I biomassed a perfectly good scout when I thought I'd specced up all wrong. Turns out it would have been pretty useful to have that character hanging around still.. It's true what they say in - in the EVE universe you really need to think about every decision you make.

NAV HIV wrote: First of all please define FOTM... How is a 400-500 HP scout be a FOTM ?! Just cause someone doesn't have it ?! These scouts drop as soon as they make the slightest mistake...ie: Running too fast other than sneaking in, charging someone with a rifle instead of a SG and so many other things. As soon as CCP fixes the Bugs with the cloak it'll be all fine. People here always cry about things that they didn't spec into. not saying that you are crying... But adding one more Scout Thread on top of all the existing threads would only make you look like a crybaby
Honor ?! What does honor have to do with using an Item that's there to use and people actually spec into it... Not like scouts get a free proto CLOAK!!!
People in this forum !!!!
I take your points but i'm a confirmed crybaby and never pretended otherwise Started late - just trying to catch up the best way I can. Apologies if the Scout threads are bringing you down but it's an issue - that seems pretty obvious. I do defintiely agree with the philosoophy that you should adapt to survive - which is why I'm considering changing class. Honour is relevant - jumping on an exploit does give me pause. I like DUST because it feels like these ephemeral things matter far more than any other game I've played. Sincerely that's what I think!

Aszazel wrote:I'll tell you this, I have started this game as a scout and to be an effective scout, I hope your 10 mil is in exactly what you need to be able to play as a scout. Armor and shield to 5 in core skills is not as important as dampening, precision, range, kin kats, cardio, and hacking.
Even if you plan on playing as an assault scout; if you don't have those skills at least to 3, I wouldn't go into scout cause you are going to get slaughtered by people who had to learn the hard way to scout and we have a much better sense of how to play them than most of the FoTM peeps.
The only thing the cloak brings to the table is to take time away from hunting targets and getting unexpectedly killed because you 'thought' someone couldn't see you. Most of the vet players can see right through it, even when you standing still. That's not to say the cloak doesn't have its merits. You can hide from tanks and do a couple other things. But scouts life is a hard life sometimes; you have the HP to make many mistakes, especially if you are going to run militia gear to stay ISK positive, also the cloak is like 3.5K alone so it will be the most expensive suit you could run.
Thank you - and the answer to your first question is no. I have not skilled into the right areas so your advice is very helpful. I'm on the fence at the moment - I like finding new tactics as an Assault - but I want what the Scouts have...

Zirzo Valcyn wrote:there is no exploit outside of some dumb perceptions, except i guess some ppl figure out a way to shoot while stealthed. that will probably be fixed. i've never tried it or saw a reason to.
it's not the players fault for CCP failing the assault suit, CCP creates the FOTMs the players naturally want to be effective so they skill into them. i personally was tired of being sluggish and radar blind and detectable outside my LAV. but how can there be a FOTM when tanks, ADS, heavies and scouts are supposedly FOTM- there cant be more than one so what that means is it's almost balanced except for assault. assault needs a gadget to make it appealing like a jetpack or something unique.
Assault Jetpacks... On this we meet right in the middle!
