This may be a silly question, but:
Can anyone explain to me why I shouldn't brick tank my Caldari Assault?
I've been trying to play to the strengths of my suit and running shield regulators and energizers, but they feel worthless. They don't give me enough of a bonus (Particularly regulators) to make me want to run those. Waiting 2.83 seconds is pretty damn close to waiting 3 seconds, and I could gain 108 more armor while doing it.
The only thing I consider worth the slot over a armor plate is two proto KinCats (with a complex CPU upgrade). But since I don't have any skills into biotics, armor plates seem like the only good option. Am I missing something?

There is an imbalance in module distribution and a bad module selection. Your better of dual tanking.

Since they nerfed Damage Mods, Complex Shield Extenders are the single most useful thing in your hi-slots. Armor HP has been too effective to pass up in low slots for a long time now.
Basically, to increase TTK, CCP has made brick taking the one viable option as far as fitting meta is concerned.

Potentially, Range boosters and a Precision Enhancer? I can't tell you how important being able to see the red chevron around the next corner is for over coming the admittedly laughable charge-up time of rail rifles.
You won't be able to see 90% of scouts, tho.
The most OP weapon on the Dust Battle Field:
One good logi, one rep tool, and a heavy.

What is the point of the squad you are in.
If you are solo slaying, I see no reason why you shouldn't.
If you are in skirming and you are pushing points, you may do a LOT of good having a hacking mod or two fit. If you are bombarding a point from long range, having a ton of armor really isn't necessary. The TTK means you should be able to find cover and pick on people with you RR and survive a lot of engagements. Having a single PRO damp means that A LOT of scans can't see you giving you a situational advantage against most things besides scouts or Gallogi squads.
If all you can think about is yourself, then brick tanking is for you. If you like playing in a team with roles maximizing each-other, then there are other ways to use those lowslots. |

Hey Piercing, Yeah this is an issue I've posted about a couple times, the effects of regulators just isn't worth it per slot. They need to up the benefit of regulators significantly to make them more worth it than armor mods. I think raw HP mods (extenders, plates) should have a fitting cost increase along with regulators being more effective.
This would encourage play the it's meant to be, a tailored mix of modules to fit your style. If the TTK at that point is too low they could buff module hp amounts but you've nailed it on the head, extra armor HP is far more effective per slot than just about anything else. |

The correct way to use a Calassault is to swap it out for a Calscout.
That said, I quite enjoy 4x extender, 1x reg, 1x CPU upgrade, 1x damp fits.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

Oh, I understand how to min-max with a squad. I was really posting from a personal level. "How much bang can I get for my buck by myself?"
Also, I have proto dampeners, but with the current high levels of scouts, they seem largely irrelevant. I can't hind from the majority of people in a match, so why use them? Of course, I do have a fit saved for when scanners start coming out, but do you think that I would do well to include a dampener on my other suits as well (Which is what I did in 1.7)?
Also, are Range booster and precision enhancers actually worth it now? I'll give it a shot and get back to you

IMO, yes, then. The biggest 'bang for your buck' of any brick tank would be on an assault, I think. Out of just about anything, they fit the fewest modules in order to brick tank.
Range boosters aren't so great on assault suits. The base range scales at 50% of the range of half of the scouts, and even worse than on cal/gal scouts. Logis make 50% better use of range amps than assaults. You are better off with other stuff in the low slots. |

In Eve, for example, if you fit shield extenders, it makes your ship bigger on sensors, which makes it easier to hit. If you fit armor, it makes you slower, which makes you easier to hit. So, if you dual tank there, your ship gets virtually big and slow. So, it's generally a bad idea to do so.
On Dust, however, shield extenders make your shield recharge delay longer (doesn't really affect your survival), and armor makes you marginally slower. So, brick tanking on Dust doesn't have the drawbacks of dual tanking in Eve, and there's not really a reason, then, not to do it.
Plus, there's a serious void of compelling modules. Shield suits actually have a good diversity of low slot modules, from dampeners to hacking modules to armor repair to speed mods, but high slots only really have damage mods. Sure, you can fit a precision enhancer, but the survivability brought about by an extender (that recharges on its own) is worth more than passive scanning.

- Cardiac Regulators
- Armor Plates
As options for potentially useful lows. Hmm

although they're really are not enough modules for much versatility anyway and allot of the modules dont really provide anything usefull

I used to brick tank in 1.7 but have switched. I play with 3 extenders, recharger, cardiac and shield regulators, CR, core Nades, Ishukone assault SMG, and Ishukone gauged hives.
The one thing I hate about brick tanking is how slow you are to recover. That and armor plate reduce your jump height. I used to play with this fit except an AR and damage mod instead of recharger. Now with the TTK being a bit more bearable it's really successful. I go 10+ KD in ambush regularly with it.
Brick tanking makes sense in theory but being slow just means you'll die before you can get to cover. It comes down to preference and whether you wanna play hit n run or Robocop.

Ehhhhh..... yes and no. Matari are generally speed tankers, but in EVE you main armor or shield depending on the ship itself. Where as the other three races pretty much stick to one doctrine. |

I only run advanced suits in pubs. Any suggestions for that?

With the new TTK I barely use plates or extenders. They are unnecessary if you can shoot.
