Not the best suit around, that reduction that everyone complains about don't help much, I'll keep using it it's not like I wasn't expecting it but....
Oh and the fact the Matari doesn't get a bonus for the hmg kinda sucks, would be a way to make it a viable option, right now I only beat other heavies due to skill, experience, and positioning.
Wow I had no idea how much being a scout effected my play style.

The sentinels' bonuses and role are strictly defensive (hence the Sentinel name). Their counterpart, the commando, and the damage dealers given their bonus and more restrictive slot layouts.
And yes, being a scout has also improved my non-scout infantry play style as well, as well as my ADSing.

Possibly in hind sight the second coolest looking heavy behind the Amarr heavy.

been murdering every type of heavy in my amarr sentinal today. for point defence its the only choice.
ive been using the minnie commando but the thing is made of toilet roll tubes. the minnie sentinal is what i see as the worst choice for heavy slaying.
ccp you broke the forge. skills are not being applied till 30 secs after spawn fixes before nerfs thank you.

Heavies and scouts aren't all that different, especially out of combat. Skill at one role generally translates well to the other. |

its more of a hit and run suit, and ya it would be good and make sense if they had a bonus with the hmg since it's their races heavy weapon. Being able to use it better, something like having better range or rpm

To be completly honest, I play matari sentinal like a scout wirh a shotgun. Use flanking and the insane stamina regen with red bottles make you pretty fast, so it is a viable option. Plus with a flux grenade and a bust hmg most unsespecting people don't stand a chance.

It's not really a heavy, more of an assault that can use heavy weapons. Been having fun on an alt using hit and run tactics and a burst HMG. Not the best heavy, but a fast one. Haven't tried the sentinel or commando yet though.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

The only thing it has going for it is it's Mobility, get from point A to point B as fast as the rest of the mid frames do, but when you get there now what?you get shredded because you have no defence promise might as well use cal heavy.
A strange game.
The only winning move is
not to play.

Like I have said to others, try out the militia versions of each of the new sentinels. It's enough to get an idea of how each one is gonna work.

hopefully no nerfs to heavies, but ya it looks like CCP is actually doing something fast with the hot fixes to work on the new issues that came in 1.8

I play Heavy like I'm in my Scout suit. Jumping, strafing, evading, flanking, using every height advantage I can find. Brick tanking sucks. The suit is slow enough already and has the inherent HP to compete with the thickest Medium frames, so why not use some speed to close in on engagements and use the HMG's DPS to your advantage instead of bricking it and trying to be the team's best bullet sponge?

exactly, before 1.8 I was a scout and using the real scout tactics (stuff we scouts use to do before cloaking came along) works fine with the Minmatar Sentinel. Still would like to see in an increase on the range for the HMG though, maybe just as a bonus or possible skill for the Minmatar Sentinel.

I'm not in 1.8 yet, but I've been doing it with MLT Heavies and a STD HMG for a while. Total cost 2,880 ISK and putting down a 2.0 KDR with it. (My MLT Scout gets me killed a lot though.) I bait people into my range. Throw a bullets their way, let them identify me and try to use their range advantage, duck into cover, wait, wait, let their impatience and thirst for Heavy blood to force them in to try to seal the deal, then pop out, strafe hard and wide and paint them up through their audio ports. Don't let me find a large round column to use for cover - it's Game Over for those inquisitive little reds...

Less speed, more HP, DPS is fungible depending how you apply it. Perfect fit. No pun intended.

Focus on the HMG rather than the suit. Get the burst and a cardiac regulator and watch what kind of carnage unfolds when you're able to flank a squad with a weapon that can kill a proto suit in a single trigger pull.

The key to the Min heavy is using speed and stamina to your advantage, flank, and getting the drop on people. It's more than possible to go toe to toe with other heavies, as long as you get the first, unsuspected strike. If they see you, start running or shooting, and hope you survive. Got 23 kill with it in one match today. Fun as hell. It plays very similarly to a scout, and compliments it well, especially with a complex kin cat. Whatever you do, do not take on heavies directly, especially if they know you're there. It's also my vehicle chaser suit now. If only we didn't have the stupid forge gun glitch... |
