You so very much like taking your own anecdotes and assuming that because this thing happened once it must happen always and you're right because reasons.
First: boasting about bad scores. Second: 'perfect team' gets outplayed and roflstomped. Now this - 'I nearly got 1v1ed by an assault suit guys and I'm so good at this game (see previously mentioned OP scores) so clearly assaults are fine and you are all just bad'.
I find it far more credible that you're just a bad heavy and that the significant portion of the community claiming that assaults are meaningless in the current meta is correct.

Who kills the pair faster?
The one with faster reload (Assault), or tighter hipfire spread (Assault) or better weapon buffs (Assault).
2 players of equal skill, each being shot at by multiple enemies every time they step out of cover. Which one is more likely to survive long enough to get a kill? Scout or Assault (pro-tip: It's not the Scout)
There are scenarios where a Scout is a better option. There are scenarios where an Assault is a better option. Being good at playing to your suit's strengths is only part of what makes a good player. Understanding and avoiding your weaknesses is also important, and so is understanding your ENEMY'S strengths and weaknesses.
This is all true, but it's also a slightly dishonest argument. (Not that I'm saying you intended it that way)
Who's more likely to get into a position where they can outflank? Not the assault with its huge profile and low speeds.
A situation like the one you describe, with multiple enemies firing on you? The increased survivability afforded by the Assault's slightly larger HP pool is not significant enough to define the suit.
Especially since it's far harder to put a scout in that situation thanks to scan precision and, again, movement speeds.
