Now that a light frame can reach almost 700hp, be invisible, OSK, and have two equipments. I would have to say the assault is dead in 1.8
Really sucks if you spec'd into. Once again a FOTM is born from another add before test update. Thanks again. Hopefully it will be fixed by the July update. Which I assume is the next one.

Light frame with 700 ehp is point less. I hope you know that because I eat them for breakfast. |

If it's pointless, then an assault is even more so.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

Assaults are useful if the enemy already knows where you are and you need a quick suit with a lot of tank to defend wherever you are.

In my opinion, they're the most fun. I always liked shotgun scout despite its flaws. You can kill plenty of frames quickly, but can also die in a split second.
I like the speed as well. I don't tank my scouts because of that. |

Yeah, tell me about it. I specced into CalAss out of... faithfulness I guess. Its like sticking with the first character you pick in Street Fighter.
Here's the problem that I see: Before suit bonuses, Assault were one of the 'best' classes because damage was the only think that mattered. So assaults could fill every role, because that was the only role that existed. This problem largely persisted inspite of the Active Scanner, because Logis just became the more versatile platform to both deal damage and scan. So there was only one way to kill before 1.8 - have more DPS than your foe. Assaults (And Slayer Logis) did not "fit" this niche - there were all of the niche.
Come 1.8, there are more ways to kill you foe - Direct attacks, surprise attacks, scanning foes for someone else to kill - which actually lets other suits shine in filling a niche. Unfortunately, the assault suit - particularly the CalAss - has *no* niche to fill.
- We don't do more damage than other suits
- We don't move faster than other suits
- We don't have more tank than other suits
- We don't have more stealth than other suits
- etc.
So what is the intended role of assaults? Currently, I don't believe that they have one. Here are some random ideas:
- Assault suits get one extra grenade
- Assaults have a +1% boost to weapon damage per level
- Assaults get slight fitting reductions to weapons (implemented)
- Assaults have a "Melee Slot" pre-fitted with nova knives
Here are just a few ideas to push assaults into a more offensive role while not being as offensive as a commando, for example
