Made this video explaining our ps4 conspiracy requested by you, this has added punch as I believe CCP flagged a comment on my last video showing links to the Unreal 4 engine and certain games being advertised by them

I've been on that conspiracy wagon for while, too. I think this is where TTG may have migrated to. The development of this game has known to be slow-paced, but lately they've really hit a wall. The last 2 patches have just felt like placeholders and mnemonic devices for actual proofed content. That many employees and so little production? There has to something else going on or this is the most poorly managed and staffed development company ever created - which wouldn't comeas surprise either.
I think your video assessment is fairly accurate, but we all know CCP is a big fan of putting more work into trailers than a good game.

CCP should still support and continue patching the ps3 version, even if ps4 development is started.
The next build better be good. CCP don't mess up.

The next expansion might be a ps4 port you know. Not many devs are working on patches for uprising, and they haven't been working with uprising since CCP Rogue joined the company (minimum 6 months of >80 devs, Thats a LOT of man hours spent on developing something) to restructure the devs to corrects for the complete mess that was released on 5/14-2013.
On the other hand, we could see a port to a new more stable game engine on the ps3, an engine that is easily ported to ps4. New engine with 60 framerate would be awesome!
Drop it like its hat.

imho the ps3 is a a bottomless pit because it annoys the customer due to false expectations. it is hardware from 2006 that just cannot handle current demands. alot of time is wasted on optimization, time that could be spend on something else.
just look at dark souls 2, they made awesome demo for live shows running on the ps3 but to do so they had to do shitton of optimization. that optimization turned out to be an unrealistic time expenditure for the retail version thus they downgraded the whole game graphically. now every console dark souls player is annoyed and feels cheated.
the same happens with dust to some degree. people have certain expectations and feel let down with the current dust progression. |

Interesting theory, however doing a beta on ps3 would be a ****** way to rollout on ps4. Different platforms, architectures, other things. A PS4 build would need extensive testing on the PS4.
This PS3 build could generate good data on game mechanics though.

Back ontopic Also unless your a ccp insider we have no idea what the devs are doing but numbers alone show they dont have the mainpower to build two versions of Dust514 at the same time as they WILL have to keep the ps3 version going.
You people are just not looking at the full facts and instead cherry picking the data u look at, you are going to b Be very disapointed at fanfest i think :-(

Nice article but a closer look with that" focused" statement in context puts it in a slightly different light
"And the thing is, we're going to be supporting the product for a long time, regardless of platform. Right now, we're laser-focused on PS3, and you'll see where we go."
This was said in October of last year so a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then and I would be expecting them to be nothing but laser focussed whatever else was going on. The key thin here is that they intend to support long term "regardless of platform"!!
We will indeed be very interested to see where they go!

They aren't lying. They don't have the resources to even properly develop this version. Luckily, for a PC port or PS4 port, it's nearly just a rebuild because the engine is compatible.

Exactly, it is game mechanics we have been testing. Neither CCP or Sony would want what we have been going through on a shiny new machine.
My understanding (albeit very limited I can assure you) is that Unreal 4 engine does not make it difficult to transfer assets from Unreal 3. This would surely be less manpower intensive than creating from new? One part of your team refines play mechanics on the old while another part pretties everything up for the new.
Whatever the time frame, there will come a time in the future when Dust will have to move on to PS4. The massive headache for CCP then will be how to integrate the new systems into the eve universe as the PS3 is now. Will they all run together? Cant see that happening. They surely wont force everyone to go to PS4 overnight. This worries me, how will they do it? any ideas?

Tinfoil contribution:
The big unanswered question for me has been 'Why is CCP totally ignoring core FPS mechanics, even to the point of refusing to talk about it, when they know it is a serious issue for DUST?'
I think that if core mechanics were easy to fix they would be fixed. If they're hard to fix it prolly means a serious rewrite of existing deep code. If one had decided that a core mechanics engine ovehaul was in order, the temptation to and argument for a PS4 port would be powerful.
Weighing against this course of action is that the game is not ready for a PS4 debut. Would SONY be onboard for such a thing? If DUST's core FPS mechanics were fixed along with other critical systems(e.g. voice, stability, etc.)and some of the most important missing functionality was added in bare-bones form, perhaps then a PS4 port would not be unreasonable.
I support SP rollover.

There was a time with EVE that CCP maintained 2 separate versions of the client to support older computers. It lasted for, i think, about 6 months (maybe, it's been a LONG time). It gave people an opportunity to upgrade their PCs to continue playing.
Yes, I know that's PCs not consoles. But the nature of the beast is that most of the interaction between us is done on Tranquility and not on our consoles. FWIW, I'm not a programmer, but from what I understand is that it wouldn't be TOO difficult to have both a PS3 version and PS4 version of Dust where player could co-mingle.

They will port to PC instead so that they have full control over their IP.

As a proud Ps4 owner, I hope your conspiracy theory is true. However, most of your "evidence" is easily explained away. Everyone knows the Unreal engine has a very distinct look. Let's call it the "generic" unreal game. All of those scenery vistas that you are presenting as evidence are simply the "look" of an unreal game. CCP is probably using as many native assets as possible when working on Dust. So, you have the generic, embarrassing terrain that is Dust 514.
I will say that the last shot gave me some hope. The art style did indeed look like Amarr and Minmitar.
Overall, I think CCP is developing for the Ps4. It is in their best interest to do so, and it's easier to develop for. |

I respectfuly disagree. CCP has shown that they don't have the man power to work efficiently, so forcusing on 4 project could slow down the process of newer titles.
I believe they should avoid developing new content for the PS3 version and just release updates relating to performance and adjustments to existing features, while putting their real effort into the new titles. |

I really hope you are right., we all know that it will move eventually, it will have to if ccp continues with it's so called ten year plan. I just happen to be of the opinion that the game we all want Dust to be can only be achieved on PS4 (yeah ok, also PC but that aint gonna happen IMHO) and the longer it remains solely on PS3 I feels like I'm being robbed of my game!! lol

Vrain Matari wrote:Tinfoil contribution:P.S. - Reality Check - The ultimate measure of whether the game is ready for a PS4 port is New Player Retention rate. If we are not retaining a significant proportion of new players(relatively speaking because New Eden is a bit too rough for many) then a move to a new platform would be a mistake of the worst kind.
If there is PVE then player retention could be much better than it is now. Not by much, though. The "new eden is a harsh place" is the reason this game has such a low player count. No one wants to play against proto stompers. It's bad game design to enable that. You can do it in EVE because there are considerably more things to do in EVE other than PVP. In Dust it's proto stomp or nothing. Sometimes you get a match where the wankers are not present and it can be super fun. Things are, somewhat, balanced. But, those matches are too few and far between.
Or you get in a tank and have a ball. Or try and snipe. Even though a lot of the maps don't accommodate sniping any more.
But, I don't see the PS4, or a PC, version doing anything to help the game. If they fixed everything, which won't happen, then it could have a decent chance. Especially if they, actually, tie it in with EVE in a meaningful and fun way. But, if it is the same game but new visuals on a PS4, no one will play other than the people who are already playing.
CCP takes too long to fix problems and there are many, many shooters that are much better than Dust. You might not like Planetside 2, but it doesn't have the issues that Dust has, as far as I know.
You move to a new platform when you have had a success. Not the poor "success" that Dust has had. I don't know what they could do with Dust.
I hope Fanfest is a big surprise. I wan't to keep playing because when the matches are good, it can be really fun. But, CCP makes it hard for that to happen with all the balance issues the game has.
