Yes, they should have a battery like the cloak device, when is under 50% you can't scan, the battery will be recharging over time. One scan should cost around 60% battery so you can't spam it but at least you can scan 2 times almost in a row. Also recharge time must be shorter than now.
For all the people saying this is a QQ, i want to remember you that cal & gal scout (very common) are human PRO/ADV scanner that will PERMASCAN you inside 45 meters (without modules) and you are not even aware that they are scanning you.
So, don't be stupid, there is something out there that is much better than the scanner, probably you don't care as long there is no pop-up message saying "You have been scanned". The new message is "Even if you don't know you are constantly under scan"
Fixing the scanner is needed, there is no point to use one of them with that silly, long recharge time, i don't want a spam fest, i want it to be worth carrying one.

To be fair, to be a decent passive scanner it takes commitment. The Cal Scout gives up both his suit bonuses just to passively scan (it's only 37.5 without range amps btw.) The Gal scout only scans at 36 db workout enhancers, that's adv scanner but it's not that great. The mods are all more valuable than a single equipment.
Scanners completely voided all that previously, all the skills were nearly worthless compared to active scanners. Active scanners still reach further than passive unless you're a really dedicated Gal Scout. Scanners are now a teamwork weapon. Reduce the recharge slightly but don't go back to 1.7, keep requiring true team work not the spin perma scan. |

A scanner works well on my scout. scan out. cloak while charging. scan out again.
Thinking it will turn me into a good 'spotter' for the team using passives to line them up

Been using the proto flux for only a few matches today and it's the closest thing I've come to actually being able to use a proper scanner.
Proximity scanner lets you provide constant scans to a small area Standard scanners are actually pretty decent now comparitively. Quantum scanners suck now because of the long cooldown.
Scan duration doesn't matter as much anymore because you can't scan as often, meaning that the quantum are VERY situational. Also if you screw up your scan you end up wasting it.

i think it's better this way. you've got to admit, scanners were breaking the game, and when you have a device that lets you see targets for 25 seconds through walls out to 150 meters, it needs to be very limited.

Don't get me wrong, a scanner nerf was needed. I'm fine with snapshot scan to prevent 360-¦ scan, but with this long recharge time and the cloak the scanner have been double nerfed.
Scan someone will make him appear for 22 seconds, ok, but if someone else spawn a second after your scan he will be invisible to you for 30 seconds. With this long recharge time a better bonus for gal logi would have been on recharge time and not on scan duration. I don't want to spam scan, but waste a scan now is a pain in the ass because you are not covered for the next 30 seconds. Scout can permascan with a good precision and a good range and you are not even aware that you are scanned, why waste time with an active scanner?

The scanners seems to be very fine. You've gone from being able to scan at a 100 m radius With almost 100% duration between scans, it had to go.
Now it actually "takes some skill to scan well", its much more important now to know when and not least where to scan. You need to antisipate and calculate, not merely permascan in a 360 spin, seeing everything.
And lol @ them not being useful. I have them equipped to every single fitting I have, I've never regretted having them there.
If scanning every 15 Seconds is too long of a wait then you have some serious issues mate. Thats 4 scans per minute, and you say that its not enough?

idk man, there pretty broken right now. i use adv and it doesn't expand to full field and i tested it earlier, and it doesn't even scan a non dampened med frame inside of it, and eq/installs have a delay before they show up sometimes. I think its just VERY inconsistent in its performance at the moment. Its also the reason why gal/cal scouts are so good, because they have built in active scanners which no other suit does

Copy paste of my edit of the previous post:
Edit: Just saw that you're in a gal logi. If Scanning all the time is that important to you, I suggest you simply run With 2 scanners. You know, armor repping is very mportant for some so they carry 2 sets of rep hives, same thing really.
And Your scout data is incorrect, its 37.5 meters With max skills. Yes the Caldari has a good passive scan but no other scouts have any extra bonus that can't easily be negated With dampeners. If you wanna increase scan range and Precision on a scout suit you have to sacrifice HP on the suits tha normally already has the least amount.
And I'd lke to add that the expanding Field on the tacnet doesn't accurately show Your scan Field. I've marked targets lots of times allthough it doesn't seem like the "radar bar" sweeps over them.

If you use a quantum version you have to wait 30 second from a scan to another and that is too much imo. I have a gal scout and maxed scanning skills, it's way more powerful and useful than an active scanner and it scans very well without renouncing to a lot of HP.

This is exactly what I and others were saying before this patch, but with some slight differences.
I think the Scan should last however long you hold down the trigger until the battery runs out. If you give them their old scan radius back, this allows you to do "snapshot scans" at the cost of possibly missing something, or longer duration scans to be more thurough or keep someone painted.
The other factor here would be that there is NO scan persistence. A person is either within the focus of a currently running scanner or they can not be seen. None of this crap of getting pinged for half a second and then being lit up for ages with nothing you can do to counter it.

Nobody ever mentioned my 40+ meter passive before 1.8 - it has rather ironically been brought up a few times now when it is technically less useful (damn all these new scouts!) than it used to be...I mean it was never really necessary to equip a precision mod before - it'll probably become a standard part of my fits like the range amp is/was.

I've switched to a non-quantum version and it's not bad afterall, but it can be better (especially if compared to the cloak device).
My suggestion remains, quantum scanner should be changed.
I've had another idea, for a new scanner variant.
80 meters range, when you use it, it makes a 360-¦ scan, with a visibility of less than 1 second (a real snapshot), in that way people will have the awereness of where enemies were 1 second before, without having them scanned all time. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
