Did you you know cloaking is already ingame? We are cloaked when we spawn in.
If you ever been spawn camped you might have noticed/wondered that the campers are looking dead straight at you but don't fire until you move. Because the power of a red crosshair is a really good tool to use when finding hidden enemies.
Or have you ever fluxed an uplink and got surprised when a heavy appeared out of thin air... with full shields. This is why i am certain fluxes decloak you but don't effect your shields at the same time.
Or have you ever seen a teammate spawn in then move. If you pay close attention you will see their shimmer effect. And what i have seen is that that shimmer is almost as noticeable as a neon light at sunset.
...then again im just sayng my opinion on the matter
They will be initially overpowered at some level once figured with the optimal setup. It's like a railgun, its a med-long range weapon with no actual drawback for short range use. I think the one thing ppl forget is that this game has the same skill set and equipment available to all and everyone strives toward an "optimal build". Unless a cloak takes a significant amount of CPU/PG, you're looking at players running around at top speed attempting shotgun/nova knife kills and then hiding safely.
If it was my call, I'd prefer CCP takes things slowly and ask themself (1) what works and what doesn't then (2) how can we make this game work better. We add combat rifles, rail guns, new pistols, etc. Nice that we add all new content but how about adding patches that make the game work better.
For MAG vets out there this is the equivalent of the bullet spread debacle, the SVER Tamsen being overpowered and take a sniper and using it as a shotgun. Weapon balance is not about having weapons all equal but ensuring that what they are good at, they are and what they suck at, they just significantly suck at. I'd prefer CCP to really spend resources fixing the aspects of this game rather than releasing stuff like "a cloak". |
