Remember the old Caldari Prime event? Things like that would be nice every few months. You dont have to spend ages making new art assets (Although that would be nice). A choice of a faction to fight with might even reward players. Eg. The Amarr try to reclaim some territory from the Minmatar. Pick a faction to fight for to help determine the outcome to some smaller scale lore. Rewards could be - Small SP reward, Small isk reward + Special Factional Gun of racial flavour x 100 for getting x amount of kills during the event. Which ever side wins the overall event might get a small additional bonus. This way everyone who gets stuck in and gets kills gets rewarded with the 'main' reward for participating. Yet there is still an incentive for one side to try and get the overall event win. Afterwards there could be a small debrief lore related thingy and the winner is reflected in this lore. Investigate 9/11

No idea what ESL have planned though. They could very well be waiting on some form of broadcasting toolset before they jump in again.
