GÇ£I donGÇÖt agree with that, they will be untrained as a unit. Their inclusion puts the mission in jeopardy. We can recall our other teams.GÇ¥
Another voice answered promptly, it was cold, almost metallic sounding. GÇ£This find is to important. We do not have the luxury of waiting. It will take 48 hours to move our own teams in place, they can be on site in half the time.GÇ¥
GÇ£I donGÇÖt trust them,GÇ¥ the first voice now had a tinge of irritation to it.
GÇ£The decision has already been made, they will be here in 6 hours.GÇ¥

A message is received on your neocom
Greetings Immortal,
We are requesting your services to help us resolve an issue. The issue is time sensitive and requires your immediate response. You come highly recommended by several reputable sources. Below you will find a contract as well as terms for payment. If you accept the contract 1/3 of the payment will automatically be transferred to your account and further instructions will follow. We hope to see you soon. Upon accepting the contract a message appears instructing you to be at a specific hanger number within the hour. Upon arriving the hanger contains only a small shuttle and a pilot standing patiently by. They approach you asking to verify your ID, handing you a data pad. The pilot explains that the data pad contains the mission briefing and that you are expected to study its contents while they shuttle you to another location.
**** Mission Intel
Roughly 12 hours ago we lost contact with an exploration and salvage vessel in WH space. They had discovered what we believe to be a derelict Yan Jung Battleship. The crew reported no Sleeper activity and boarded the vessel. Just before loosing contact with the crew they reported finding an artifact in the cargo hold of the ship. Your mission is to recover the artifact as well as the navigational data on board the Yan Jung ship.
We would like to make it clear that the primary objective is the retrieval of the artifact and not the rescue of the salvage crew. The WH is starting to deteriorate and by the time you get there you will have roughly 6 hours to complete the mission. Included in the intel is the layout of both ships. The salvager is a Noctis class salvage ship produced by ORE. The layout for the Yan Jung ship is incomplete only covering the lower half of the ship. Also included in the data pad is a list of the other mercenaries you will be working with.
**** Space Station (present)
Upon exiting the shuttle you are greeted by an attendant who welcomes you, and informs you that all forms of communication with anyone outside the station have been blocked. They are wearing a simple suit with no identifying marks. They explain that it is for safety and security reasons. They ask you to follow them to the third conference room before turning on their heels and proceeding at a brusque pace. The walls of the station are a pristine white and in the air is the faint smell of antiseptic cleaner. The attendant brings you to the third conference room motioning for you to enter.
The room mirrors the aesthetics of the rest of the station. In the center of the room is a huge 30-foot glass table but there are no chairs. In one corner of the room are two people, a man and a woman speaking to one another.
GÇ£DidnGÇÖt think you would be on this one CJ,GÇ¥ she said with a slightly concerned expression on her face. She was short, maybe 5GÇÖ1, she was dressed in combat fatigues. Her appearance and facial tattoos suggesting that she was Minmatar, specifically a member of the Brutor tribe.
GÇ£Yeah, me neither.GÇ¥ The man sounded slightly annoyed. He stood more than a foot taller than the woman, but his back was turned to the door. He was wearing a ragged looking pair of sweats with a tank top draped over his left shoulder. GÇ£I was in the middle of the psych testing when they pulled me out.GÇ¥ Psychological testing was performed on all agents after a mission was completed. They were usually given at least a few days of rest to mentally recover.
GÇ£Are you going to be good?GÇ¥ the woman asked, the look of concern still on her face. She knew the answer, he passed the tests, he always did. The man just gave a shrug of his wide shoulders and gave her a smile.

With the arrival of the mercenaries CJ and the woman ceased speaking. The man turned around to face the mercenaries as they arrived, pulling off two medical leads that were attached to his chest and put them into his pocket.
Quote: "You two know anything about this mission from our employer? I've been told they'll handle moving my clones and weapons into the burn zone but... I'd hate for them to lose my babies out there."
He sets down the Thale's sniper and begins to assemble the next, grinning like a proud parent.
GÇ£If they said they were going to handle it then I would trust them.GÇ¥ CJ approached Galm as he spoke, pulling his shirt on as he did. GÇ£Just donGÇÖt ask them how,GÇ¥ CJ had a knowing grin on his face. GÇ£As for the mission you will be told what you need to know.GÇ¥ CJ had spent the last 6 months working almost exclusively for the corporation, and he had learned pretty quickly to stop asking so many questions.
GÇ£You shouldnGÇÖt bring anything you arenGÇÖt prepared to lose,GÇ¥ the woman finally spoke as she walked up behind CJ. She eyed the rest of the mercs, seeing several of them brining their own weapons brought a small frown to her face. GÇ£Some of them seem a littleGǪshaky. IGÇÖm supposed to put my faith in them?GÇÖ She said it quietly but it was still audible. She didnGÇÖt trust them, not because they werenGÇÖt skilled but because she wasnGÇÖt sure if she was pulling to put her life in their hands.
GÇ£DonGÇÖt worry about her, she gets a little cranky before an Op.GÇ¥ She punched him hard in the shoulder for the comment. CJ feigned being hurt by the punch laughing and rubbing his shoulder. He seemed to have a perpetual smile on his face. GÇ£IGÇÖm Jester, or CJ, either works. She goes by Cross,GÇ¥ CJ nodded his head towards the woman. |

Jester wasnGÇÖt interested in the introductions. Whatever he needed to know was already in the files they had been given earlier. The only thing that he cared about was how effective they were going to be during the mission. A personGÇÖs true character appeared in times of crisis.
GÇ£Good to see everyone gets along,GÇ¥ Jester said quietly to Cross.
GÇ£Yeah, they get along so well that two of them might kill each other before we even start, and three others are paranoid enough to bring weapons to a briefing.GÇ¥
CJ couldnGÇÖt help but laugh at that, GÇ£I can see it now, the whole room blown to hell, and us all dead before we even finish this briefing.GÇ¥
The young woman glared at him; unlike most of the others in the room she was not an immortal. GÇ£DonGÇÖt joke about that. I donGÇÖt come back from a bullet to the brain remember.GÇ¥
Jester just grunted, the vocal equivalent of shrugging his shoulders before giving her a stupid grin. Just as he did a hollow feeling appeared in his gut and his grin faded.
GÇ£Shows about to start.GÇ¥
****
Mission briefing
With all of the mercenaries assembled the room suddenly grows dark. Only a few of the small lights in the floor illuminated the room. From the ceiling the gentle hum of machinery can be heard, followed by a large hologram forming in the center of the room.
The images of the Noctis class salvage ship floating next to the Yan Jung battleship materialize. The images float slowly rotating 360 degrees.
GÇ£Welcome mercenaries,GÇ¥ The voice is male, but it is slightly mechanical and computerized. GÇ£We hope that you have all reviewed the mission intel we provided you. We will now continue the briefing.GÇ¥ The robotic voice paused a moment before continuing. GÇ£You will be entering from this point. This will also act as your point of egressGÇ¥ The hologram lit up a section of the Noctis, its cargo hold. GÇ£The purpose of this mission is to recover an unknown artifact of ancient origin. The salvage team was in the process of removing the artifact from the cargo hold of the derelict ship when we lost contact.GÇ¥ A spot on the lower part of the Battleship lit up signaling the last known location of the artifact. GÇ£The artifact should be in protective case and is considerably heavy. It will most likely require two of you to carry the artifact.GÇ¥ Another spot on the abandoned Battleship lit up, this time near what remained of the top of the ship. GÇ£We believe this is where the bridge is located. We lost contact before the mapping could be completed. Your second primary objective is to retrieve the navigation computer from the bridge. Although how you complete the mission is up to you we recommend splitting into two teams.GÇ¥ The voice paused again for a moment.
GÇ£For those of you who are unaware Wormhole space can cause a multitude of technical issues. This mission will be unlike most of your other mercenary operations. Due to the nature of the wormhole we are only able to provide you with so many clones. A maximum of two spare clones has been allocated to each of you. If you run out of clones your conscience will be transported back here.GÇ¥ The hologram faded and the light in the room turned back on. GÇ£Please note that this mission is timed, the wormhole will only remain open for a finite period of time. If you get stuck in the wormhole there is no guarantee that killing yourself will transfer you to another clone.GÇ¥ The electronic voice ceased speaking, it was quickly replaced with a more pleasing female voice. GÇ£Please proceed to the armory by following the blue lights, your current clones will be held in stasis while you are transferred to combat clones. From there you will have one hour before you are to board the ship in hanger T-13.GÇ¥ The voice cut off and a series of blue lights illuminate a path along the ground.
****
Armory
Just like everywhere else in the station the Armory is white and in pristine condition. The only difference is the constant hum of machinery. The armory is almost completely drone operated, not a single human is in sight. The drones are flying around the room, carrying crates and supplies in every direction. A small circular drone approaches the group and addresses the group.
GÇ£Mercenaries are to follow me to the stasis pods to begin the transfer into their combat clones. The support personnel can begin preparing for the mission. All personal equipment and weaponry is available.GÇ¥ The small floating drone turns around and heads off down a hall to the left. It leads you into a room with several rows of pods. GÇ£Once you are situated the transference process should only take a few moments. If you have any questions please ask any of the other drones, they will be more than happy to assist you.
Once transfer is complete the combat clones and dropsuits are being monitored by a number of other drones with a single human technician.

CJ and Cross were among the last of the mercenaries to walk out of the conference room. Both mulling over the new information they were given. Slowly they walked towards the armory.
GÇ£Get the map data from the drones, and make sure we bring the scanner drones.GÇ¥
With more than half of the Yan Jung ship left unmapped the scanner drones could finish mapping out the ships interior, they also had the ability to search for life forms. The salvage ship had a crew of over a thousand souls, CJ at least wanted to know where they were if they were even still there.
GÇ£We should pack heavy on extra equipment and ammunition.GÇ¥
CJ wanted to approach this one cautiously; they were going in with limited information, and the possibility of upwards of a thousand hostile individuals. In the last six months he had completed a number of assignments for the corporation but this was the largest team he had ever been a part of. Usual operations were limited to teams of four with a single support officer. Their team was twice the size, and he had never worked with any of them before.
GÇ£It will be taken care of, I have done this a few times before.GÇ¥ Cross sounded slightly annoyed but CJ was hardly paying her any attention, his mind was somewhere else.
GÇ£Noah, are you alright?GÇ¥ She looked at him with a mixed expression of concern and worry. His eyes were distant and unfocused.
GǣYeahGǪAll good.Gǥ It was the use of his actual name that had snapped him back to reality.
If he were capable of being honest he would have said no his mind was a mess at the moment. He had just completed a mission less than 6 hours ago and it had not gone well. The mission was a success but he and the team had done a few things he was still struggling with. He usually took a few days between major jobs. He usually took the time to sort out his thoughts and what had happened.
****
Arriving at the stasis pods CJ waited his turn and began stripping down to his compression shorts absentmindedly tossing his cloths on the floor in a pile. Unlike most of the other mercenaries he had no discerning marks or tattoos. When he was offered the chance to become immortal he had decided to leave his previous life behind. For him it was a form of rebirth. As a result his body possessed no scars or blemishes. He was a fairly tall individual, standing a little over 6GÇÖ4 he was slightly larger than most. Physically he was in shape, like he had spent a lot of his time doing physical labor. It gave him broad shoulders and decent muscle definition.
GÇ£I hate these things.GÇ¥ He muttered under his breath as he watched the others enter the pods.
He had this fear every time his conscious was transferred that something was going to go wrong and he was going to end up stuck somewhere in between, never able to wake up. While it was probably an irrational fear it was one that existed nonetheless.
Taking a deep breath he climbed into the pod and allowed the drone to take care of the rest. He had to take another deep breath as the liquid started to fill the pod. The damn things always reminded him of a coffin. Every time the darkness took over he mentally fought with it trying to claw his way back into another body. He felt like if he didnGÇÖt struggle his soul would be lost and the darkness would swallow him up.
**** Cross let out a sigh as she watched him enter the pods. She knew he hated them, but it was how he was acting that was concerning her at the moment. She would have to keep an eye on him. As she was about to leave the room she noticed Satja standing there. The two of them were supposed to be acting as the support team for the mission.
GÇ£Satja, Satja Askarin?GÇ¥ her name and role were in the data files sent earlier.
Cross approached the other woman with a smile on her face. She was use to working alone but with the size of the team the extra person was probably necessary.
GÇ£WeGÇÖre this way,GÇ¥ she nodded her head down the hallway and started walking. GÇ£The support vessel and transport vessel are one and the same. We just need to make sure that everything is up to date.GÇ¥
It was a little bit strange for her to be explaining anything to someone else. The only normal human interaction was between team members and she was usually on her own, just a disembodied voice relaying information and sometimes orders.
GÇ£IGÇÖm Cross by the way, its nice to be working with another person for once.GÇ¥ She wasnGÇÖt quite sure what to say. The palaver was probably unnecessary but she tended to talk when she got nervous.
GÇ£I really hope this mission goes as planned. This is the largest team IGÇÖve ever seen for a simple retrieval.GÇ¥ She kept talking to fill in any silence.
**** Hanger T-13
The Matari had never been so happy to see the hanger and the Pilgrim class Force Recon cruiser it held.
GÇ£This is itGÇ¥ she waved at the ship it was being swarmed by drones and technicians alike. Some were running diagnostics while others were loading it with weapons and equipment.
GÇ£The whole thing has been retrofitted into a transport and command center. We can monitor team members and we can also see what they see. We will also be in control of any of the drones that we bring along.GÇ¥
The cargo hold had been transformed into a troop transport and command center allowing for the covert insertion of troops as well as covertly monitoring their actions.
GÇ£If you have any questions just ask,GÇ¥ she walked into the ship and began going through all of the equipment, and discussing things with both drones and techs.

He could feel his conscience separate from his current body. His mind was screaming at him to fight it, to go back into his body. CJ had to will himself to separate and allow himself to float into the void. He had heard from other mercs that the transfer was pleasant, relaxing even. Jester had yet to experience a transfer that he would describe as pleasant or relaxing.
He felt like he was in a hallway and the walls were slowly collapsing, choking off his air supply and his chance for escape. He felt a weight pulling on him, trying to drag him into the depths of the void. The mercenary had to use every bit of his will power to drag himself away from the pit and towards the feeble light at the end of the hallway. They always said the transfer only took a moment which others claimed was nearly instantaneous. To Noah it felt like he was struggling for hours, being dragged down by something that didnGÇÖt want him to leave.
Jester awoke in a body almost identical to the one he had left behind. The only difference was that the one he currently inhabited was biologically and mechanically enhanced. It took him a moment to gather himself and gain his bearings. The whole time he was gathering himself several drones and the tech were going through final checks. In the back of his mind he could hear someone addressing him.
GÇ£Everything checks out, or at least I think it does. YouGÇÖre suit isGǪunusual.GÇ¥
The magnetic clamps suspending the mercenary in the air released its grasp with a hiss. He landed on his feet, easily finding his balance. CJ pulled up the readings on his suit to find that everything was running normally.
GÇ£Sorry about that, its not a stock suit, but everything is fine.GÇ¥
The suit he was wearing was a hybrid, made up of a combination of Gallente and Matari tech. The suit resembled a sleeker version of the Minmatar medium frame completely stripped of all paint and non essential components, only the silver metal and necessary components remained. The rough edges of the Minmatar suit had been rounded and smoothed out. The large backpack had been removed, leaving only the armor plating over the spine. The stripped down nature of the suit left the shield generators exposed on the back and arms. The largest deviation in the suit was in the helmet he had tucked under his arm. Jester had replaced the standard Minmatar helmet with one that looked almost Ammarian in design with a thin T shaped visor and elegant flowing lines. The suit traded off speed in favor of stronger shields. It was no better or worse than any of the other available suits just something different.
The Tech handed him a black piece of cloth that he attached to his waist, it fell to just above his knees. In the middle of the sash was the silver symbol of the Angel Cartel. He wore it not out of loyalty to the cartel but as a reminder of what he had done in his previous life.
Just as he was about to leave the stasis room he felt a hand grasp his shoulder. He turned to see Galm.
Galm Fae wrote:"Alright... CJ, is it?" he asked, coming up behind him and placing a hand on Noah's shoulder, "I'm ready to board the transport as soon as my clones are loaded."
Galm gave him a quick thumbs up, letting his rifle dangle freely from his chest strap as he turned away. Besides his rifle, the Caldari was weighed down by several boxes of ammunition, the Thale sniper loaded in steel rucksack, and a compact nanohive that was fixed to his lower back ready to release a swarm of nanites that could repair his armor and replenish his cache at will. With all of this equipment, it seemed hard to remember that he was the same short Civire who stepped into his stasis pod mere moments ago.
As he steeled himself for the coming mission, he noticed Ermac approaching him from the armory.
GÇ£We still have an hour before we leave, but IGÇÖm glad to see you are prepared. You look better in the armor.GÇ¥ It was quite the sight to see a heavy suit so laden with equipment. GÇ£You know we can get drones to carry the ammunition.GÇ¥ Being prepared was one thing, Galm was taking it to the extreme CJ saw Ermac approaching and decided to leave the two alone and headed into the armory, he still had to grab his equipment.

True Adamance wrote:"Is there somewhere I might take prayer?" He asked. A general question meant for anyone to answer. " If not a chapel then perhaps somewhere calm or quiet."
GÇ£I would be glad to show you,GÇ¥ it was one of the drones that addressed the Templar. GÇ£If you would follow me.GÇ¥ The drone floated on down the hall leading out of the armory and took a few turns. The drone hovered in front of a set of wooden doors, a very rare commodity in space. The right door was slightly ajar.
Up against the wall was a weapons rack; a magsec and mass driver were already resting in the rack.
GÇ£Just follow the blue lights to return to the armory.GÇ¥ The little drone turned back around and headed back the way it had come.
Inside Noah sat in one of the pews, leaning forward, elbows on his knees. His head was bowed and his eyes closed. His helmet rested at his feet. Unlike the others that usually visited he was not there to pray to a god. He was there to get away from all of the noise, needing a moment to work through his thoughts and clear his mind. With the others currently arguing their own ideologies regarding the mission he needed an escape.
Noah had always found comfort in religious houses, he found it strange considering he had never really practiced or adhered to a particular religion. Perhaps it was the absolute faith in their beliefs that he found comforting. Or perhaps it was the idea that they were a sanctuary, a place of safety and peace. Given his chosen profession and life style finding a moment of piece was a rarity.

Noah had been so lost in his own thoughts to realize that the Templar had entered. It was not until he heard Kador kneeling that he was pulled from his own mind. As the Templar prayed a small fire started in NoahGÇÖs gut. It was anger, not at Kador or the Amarrians, but at their total commitment to their faith. Perhaps anger was the wrong word, Noah envied them, a person capable of completely committing to a belief or ideal. It gave them a sense of purpose and meaning to their life. He had managed to find a purpose and meaning to his life, but sometimes it was the life he led that caused him problems.
Somehow a smile found its way to his lips. In thinking about his own life he came to the realization that he was both an immortal and an angel who had no faith in God. He came to the conclusion that he was more of a fallen angel, one who disagreed with GodGÇÖs will. It was a ludicrous thought, but one that helped to clear his head.
True Adamance wrote:"Would you mind if I joined you two?" he asked quietly.
The Templar simply nodded.
" I trust our friend here minds not....." Came Kador's soft response.
"I myself am only a guest. I only hope I myself am not intruding sir. We are well met in this house of God" This time the response was directed at Noah.
Noah nodded, gesturing with his head to come in. He had no reason or power to deny entry into such a place anyways.
GǣYou have as much a right to be here as I doGǪPerhaps more so,Gǥ he looked down at his helmet as he spoke the last part. He quickly turned his attention to Denak.
GÇ£Everything all right?GÇ¥
The question was obviously for Denak. Noah did not know the man but it was quite apparent that something was upsetting him. His presence brought back thoughts of the mission they were about to undertake. Although he knew it was impossible he hoped that this mission was exactly as it seemed.

Denak Kalamari wrote:"I will manage", he added as his head dipped down slightly, taking a deep breath in and attempting to shut down his distracting thoughts.
GÇ£ThatGÇÖs all that can be asked of you.GÇ¥ Noah understood what he meant by managing. That was all they could hope for some days.
Denak Kalamari wrote:He did notice Sergamon enter the room and request an audience from Kador, but Denak did nothing to greet, or even acknowledge the presence of the Gallentean, simply remaining quiet and still.
Noah nodded towards the Templar as he rose to leave; rather glad it was the Templar and not himself that Sergamon wanted to speak with. Everything was starting to get complicated and they hadnGÇÖt even left the station yet.
GÇ£Faith is a funny thing isnGÇÖt it?GÇ¥ looking up at the ceiling as he spoke.
He was talking to no one in particular, could have been to himself or to the God whose existence he hoped was just a fabrication of the human mind, or it could have been directed at Denak, the only other flesh and blood person left in the room.
GÇ£Some men can put all of their faith into a single ethereal being, others put their faith in themselves, believing that their own abilities will see them through.GÇ¥
GÇ£I find myself deep in the dark woods, I have strayed from the path, I fear the right road lost.GÇ¥ A small smile found its way to his lips.
Noah was well aware of the strain; both physical and mental they were about to face. Some of them were already weary, and almost all of them were on edge.
GÇ£DonGÇÖt doubt, have faith in yourself, and if you can not do that then put your faith in those that surround you.GÇ¥

GǣOptimism huhGǪGǥ A goofy grin was on his face. GǣThe madness of insisting that all is well when we are miserable. I hold out no hope that things will turn out well, only a certainty that they will make sense.Gǥ
Noah let out a snort; he was starting to get carried away. Under most circumstances he would never have given voice to those thoughts.
GÇ£Sorry about that, I tend to get lost in thought in places like this.GÇ¥ Noah gestured to their immediate surroundings. It could have been due to his surroundings, or perhaps it was the company.
Noah looked down at his neocom, it had a countdown timer displaying a little bit more than ten minutes left. He let out a light sigh and forced himself to his feet. He let out a groan like the action of standing up was causing him physical pain.
GÇ£Time to get the opening act started.GÇ¥
Just as he finished speaking his neocom flashed 10 minutes left and a robotic voice sounded over the mercGÇÖs communication systems.
GÇ£To all mercenaries, please finish your preparations and assemble in hanger T-13. There are less than 10 minutes until launch. All mercenaries please assemble in hanger T-13, 10 minutes until launch.GÇ¥
**** Hanger T-13
Inside the hanger the techs and drones are finishing their final preparations, while equipment is being loaded onto the Pilgrim class force recon class cruiser. The cargo bay and much of the cruiser has been retrofitted into a troop transport and command center.
The sleek and elegant lines that traditionally represent ammar design and architecture are absent from the modified areas of the ship. Instead the design is very minimalist, lacking any unnecessary or extra features. In the area closest to the cargo doors are a dozen seats rather uncomfortable looking seats. The middle of the cargo hold had been turned into an armory; it is also where the extra clones are stored. Further back is the command center where the support personnel will be monitoring the drones and sensors.
Once everyone is loaded and aboard the cruiser will take off for W-space. |

Slowly but with purpose Noah made his way into the hall, his helmet tucked under his arm. With every step he took he cleared his mind of extraneous thoughts and focusing on the mission at hand. Noah retrieved his weapons from the rack locking his magsec to his thigh and the mass driver to his back. Each weapon made a satisfying click as the maglocks activated. He nodded slightly towards Kador and Sergamon before turning to Satja.
GÇ£IGÇÖm counting on you to get us through this alive.GÇ¥ His spoke firmly in a serious tone.
Noah did not mean to put any extra pressure onto the woman; he was simply stating what he believed to be true. They were going in partially blind and the support team would be playing a vital role in providing information. Without another word he headed towards the hanger.
**** Hanger T-13
As Noah boarded the cruiser he nodded at the others. He had to stifle a laugh when he saw the Techs hat sitting atop Hawk-eyeGÇÖs head. It was ill fitting and reminded Noah of an awkward fat child trying to cram his head into a hat that did not fit. Noah placed his helmet on the seat next to Galm.
GÇ£Nice hat, it suits you.GÇ¥
With that he moved further into the cargo hold, past the extra clones and towards the command center. Speaking fairly loudly as he approached it.
GÇ£Cross are we ready?GÇ¥
GǣGǪYeah, just aboutGǥ
She sounded preoccupied, like she was trying to perform multiple tasks at once. Noah walked into the command center leaning up against the metal door frame.
GÇ£Stupid drones are late.GÇ¥
Cross was running through a check list while running through the procedures with the captain of the cruiser. The drones she was referring to where the combat drones that they were assigned for the mission. There were a total of six drones; four of them were equipped with weapons while the other two were equipped for a support role. Every drone was carrying extra ammunition and equipment.
GÇ£You would think being robots they would be on time.GÇ¥
GÇ£You worry to much theyGÇÖll be here.GÇ¥
GÇ£And you donGÇÖt worry enough.GÇ¥
At that moment the six combat drones hovered into the hold, past the mercenaries, their green optics glowed faintly as they moved into their housing in the ceiling going into a passive mode. Unlike their worker bee brethren these drones were far larger, heavily armored and moved nearly silently.
GÇ£Do you have my knives by the way?GÇ¥
GÇ£YeahGÇ¥
She pulled two large knives out of a drawer and tossed them at him.
GÇ£ThanksGÇ¥
GÇ£I swear you wouldnGÇÖt be able to dress yourself if everything wasnGÇÖt automated here.GÇ¥
GÇ£Depends on the day.GÇ¥
Noah attached them to the small of his back. He called them knives but at 10 inches long they were more like a short sword. Unlike the Nova knives his were not powered, but he had learned that a decent blade could save his life. With his knives secured he turned to leave. Cross spoke up before he was out of earshot.
GÇ£How are you feeling about this mission?GÇ¥
Noah gave her an audible grunt; it was his way of verbally shrugging. Usually actions spoke louder than words but in full armor it was sometimes difficult to discern small actions making verbal communication vital.
GÇ£Great.GÇ¥
Noah resumed his short walk back to his seat. He honestly didnGÇÖt know how this mission was going to go. Noah didnGÇÖt know what they were walking into but he expected the worse.
Back with the others he grabbed his helmet, and put his mass driver in the rack below his chair and took his seat next to Galm. As he sat down he readjusted the Angel Cartel sash at his waist. It was something he did when he was slightly nervous. It was an old habit he had formed a lifetime ago.

Cruiser
With everyone aboard the Cruiser the cargo hull doors began to close. The hydraulic doors hissing closed, as it sealed its occupants inside. For some reason Noah could not help but imagine the cruiser as a tomb that was being sealed. Just as the door closed the ship lifted off of the hanger floor and proceeded to exit the hanger.

En Route to W-Space
The ship had been moving for about twenty minutes when a voice was heard over the mercenaries comm systems.
GÇ£Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen,GÇ¥ The voice was bubbly and excited, clearly not a robot.
GÇ£My name is Cross and I will be your guide and the voice inside your head for the duration of this wonderful sight seeing excursion into W-Space.GÇ¥
GÇ£Now if you would please locate Mr. Jester he will be assisting me today.GÇ¥ The Matari woman seemed intent on continuing with the act.
Noah unbuckled himself and made his way further back, standing in the middle of the aisle so that the others could see him.
GÇ£Now on this excursion we will be traveling into unknown territory. To prevent you from traveling blindly you have been given access to a number of drones. Two dozen of them to be exact.GÇ¥
Noah opened up a large metal case and pulled out a metal ball about eight inches in diameter.
GÇ£These adorable little guys will be acting as our eyes and ears. They are active scanner drones that will be mapping out both ships.GÇ¥
As she spoke Noah activated the drone he was holding. It beeped to life with a small green light signaling it was on. The little ball floated happily at about head height. A few moments later he grabbed the floating drone. It responded with a dejected beep. Noah turned it off and put it back into its case.
GÇ£The drones you see behind my lovely assistant will be providing fire support as well as carrying your extra ammo. They can also be set to act as sentries.GÇ¥
Noah had taken a few steps backwards and was pointing up to the much larger drones resting in their housing above his head.
GÇ£I would like to say thank you to the lovely Junko for dispensing what information we do possess, it saves us on the time of having to explain a few things. The last thing that must be discussed is what to do in the case that the cargo hold you are currently in is breached. As we are in space we recommend hugging your knees, rocking back and forth, and praying to whatever god you believe in.GÇ¥
As she was speaking Noah demonstrated the suggested method. It was expertly done, possibly from past experience.
GÇ£We will be arriving at our destination in a few hours. Those of you that have paid for the tour will disembark at that time. We suggest you take that time to decide on how you will be spending your time. As a reminder we want to let you know that we are on a tight schedule. If you are not at the docks at the scheduled time you will be left behind and no refund will be given. We thank you for choosing the Worm Hole Party cruise. Your first and only choice in W-Space cruises.GÇ¥
Noah walked back to his seat, and rather ungracefully threw himself into it. The metal seat groaned in disdain as he did so. Noah stared up blankly at the ceiling for a few moments.
GÇ£Alright lets work this out, we donGÇÖt have a lot of time, and we need to prioritize our objectives. For the sake of time and efficiency I was thinking of splitting up into two teams. One squad will be responsible for the recovery of the artifact while the other will be responsible for the navvcomm.GÇ¥
He left it open for discussion and to determine how they were going to split up.
