Well, I'm just a merc not a tanker but have a chance to run a tank sometime (run aways from it most of the time), and I feel a tank need some handicap to make it to be balance.
Problem: - Tank is too easy to drive. Any one can call a take and star drive it with a little experience. The third person view give the tank too much advantage. They can see merc who run around their tank with AV and the direction of bullet. It is too easy to shoot mecr with third person view, and so easy to spot some merc who try to jump on the tank to plant RE. - Anti - tank weapon does not really effective. To kill a tank with AV, we would need a full squad (after AV nerf in 1.8) 6 merc have to focus on only 1 merc who drive tank. So the rest 10 mercs will have to fight 15 mercs. What about 2 - 3 tanks? 12 mercs focus on tanks leave only 4 mercs fight for the objective. To kill a tank with Forge Gun, most of the time the tank can run aways or turn on hardener before got pop. To kill a tank with RE, most of the time the merc would die before able to plant the bomb because third person view of the tank spot him. To kill a tank with JLAV, come on, give them some credit. Pop a tank with JLAV isn't easy. Noob JLAV die often and could not take down any tank, only real jihad know what are they doing and be able to pop the tank, so if the tank got pop, you deserve it.
Solution: - Tank is a complex vehicle, they should not be able to drive and shoot around with only one controller. I suggest to separate tank's cannon from driving system like LAV. They still have third person view to drive a tank, but they need to switch a seat to control a cannon and have only first person view to shoot a cannon like other cannon turrent or have a guner sit on the tank to control cannon while the driver drive a tank. - Twist on tank controller by implement caterpillar tractor driving system to the tank (L3 control left track and R3 control right track). Now the tank will be more complicate to control like dropship and a tanker will need to learn how to control it. This handicap will separate a real tanker from a noob. - Tank should not be able to fit more than one hardener or has dual tank. Reduce Mlt-tank PG/CPU to the point that they can not fit active device on. So tanker need to invest sp to effective tank. - Introduce new anti-LAV weapon, It would be nice if Amarr have a new weapon lather than LR or ScR. How about give them a EMP cannon for light weapon. short range with 3-5s charge up time and 5 s cool down for each shot. EMP ball has slow speed as Swarm Launcher and 3M blast radius. The EMP will fried all electronic, any thing get cot in the radius will lost all shield, all active module will shot down, and lost 50% moving speed for 5,7,10s(std,adv,pro).
