I'm just rambling here. Read if your bored and nostalgic.
My first matches in CB: Cool music. Now wtf is this that I'm looking at? There are blue circles everywhere. OK. the screen moves when I do this..... why is the circle jumping? Wait. Is this a map? sort of? OH OK. I think I get it now.... spends another 5 minutes trying to figure out how to spawn in.
I remember reading swarms were OP so what better weapon to start with? I spawn in and saw 3 reds, aimed, fired chaotically because I had no idea wtf a "swarm" was, explosions were everywhere but where I wanted them to be, then promptly died. Let's try default assault.
Respawn.
I wonder h many times I was killed thinking I was 3-clicks down into prone, when really I was standing fully upright. (stand, squat, STAND using the cycle I was familiar with from CoD).
...
Oh neat. There's a vehicle of some sort, I think? Yup, I can enter it! AWESOME!!!! I end up on a turret of some sort and realize the thing has lifted off the ground. We seemed to be circling the same area over and over and I just randomly shot at buildings to get a feel for things. From time to time I would see a red chevron on screen and aim for it, but we never sat still long enough to do any damage. I assumed the ship was AI and on a loop. I thought that was strange. Eventually we exploded. I didn't know I could jump out. Upon respawn, I see another. Ya, confirmation that this must be default AI transports around the map. I hop in and man a turret a bit more prepared this time. Why haven't we lifted off yet? What is the trigger to start this ride!? I fire randomly hoping the system would recognize it had a passenger on board and take off. Nothing. A few random button clicks and profanities later I realize that I can switch seats and found myself in the pilot chair. Awesome. This changes everything and now I can fly! At least for a few seconds until I drifted into the redline...
....
I invest into the Charge Sniper Riffle. Hell ya. I suck at this, but maybe I can just sit back and learn something from a distance. I spent most of the match pressing the trigger button to fire...nothing. WTF? Ok my rifle doesn't fire? Coming from EvE I thought maybe I had to buy special ammo types for this weapon, and was pissed that there was no warning indicator on the fitting screen to explain this. Several matches in I test it. Searched the market. Searched the forums. Asked the forums! I get crickets. Ya, everyone probably thought I was trolling or an idiot not worth the effort. I'm not sure how I stumbled on it, but I guess I held the button long enough to finally notice the charge ring filling up on screen. DUH. I still cringe when I think about that =\
Same thing happened later with the swarm update. I had not used them since my first match ever. Now when I pulled the trigger aiming at infantry nothing happened. No clicks, no beeps, no CHARGE RINGS!! Ugh. Wait. It just chirped. Why? I saw a box light up over some vehicle then it hit me. Well, nothing literally hit me, I was still alive. I just mean the idea of what I could and could not target. Damn. I didn't have a sidearm.
As with the Charge Rifle, I was totally lost on the swarm unaware that I needed lock-on time. I just tried to aim and fire, like all my other weapons. Sooner or later I figured it out, but I hated myself for being so thick haha.
I called in a dropship and got in. I could not get it off the ground though. I remember flying one in another match and it wasn't this difficult so what gives? The damn thing would hop as though it wanted to lift, but just refused to let go of the ground. Over and over, bouncing up and down. I thought maybe there was some type of parking break on the thing that I couldn't find or something. I spent the rest of the match sitting in a glitched DS, looking for flight instructions on my laptop. It was a glitch btw. A common on. Yay! Finally something NOT due to user error!!
I jumped over a stairwell once and run across a roadway, then immediately landed exactly where I was 3 seconds earlier. Is this the rubber banding I kept reading about?
I remember ice-skating on Objective E a few times, unable to grab on to the interface screen to hack. Instead, I just slid from one edge to the next with a single step, all while reds continue to spawn around me taking pot-shots.
I remember hearing several tin dodge balls: *pah-thoon...pah-thoon* and wondering what the hell that was. It sounded way to weak to 2-shot me.
One day I spawned into a squad using mics. I didn't have one, but I followed orders. I remember that guy hacking then calling locations for incoming. Told us to guard the objective. I was on the rooftop next to them all and I remember hearing "Guy on the roof, keep looking out over the hill and behind the building. You with us?" Without a mic, I shot him in the chest twice for confirmation. We held it and claimed the nearest objective with relative ease. lol. I thought I had arrived..... I hated when the auto-squad was removed. It seemed like clueless new players worked better as a group when the only thing you had to worry about was if the squad leader knew what to do, or even knew how to do it. Even as a newbie, seeing a blinking target on your HUD helped a lot.
sigh. No reason for this other than to step out of my typical forum hermit mode. Good day, all, and enjoy the game :) It's come a long way.
- me.
p.s. Nameless guy I shot for giving SL orders, thanks for letting me play along. That was the best. =^.^= |
