Sakulda VI - District 8 2:00
"Quiet". "So quiet" I thought to myself. It has been 2 hours since the last Orbital Strike has been dropped. Our commander ordered us to retreat but the enemy surrounded the Cargo Hub, extinguishing any life that that may have exited the city. Distant screams of agony can be heard throughout the city, "They are clearing the city of any strays" I thought again. I got up from my hiding spot gritting my teeth as the pain seared through my left side. "Damn Combat Rifle" I whispered. It was not a serious wound but lack of medical attention would bring my clone to it's eventual demise. I could feel the aura of death around me, trying to grip me and pull me with it as it has done to all my comrades. "They are still searching the outer areas of the city, till they regroup and enter the center of the city to finish off the last pocket of resistance" I thought reluctantly. My squad, no my whole company is gone. There were no more clone reserves left so I had to at least inform my commander of the massacre that has taken place. Communications have been jammed so a personal message was my only option.
After some time I finally made it to the command post but I saw no soldiers or even a sentry. But what I did see when I entered was horrifying. Medics lay dead next to their patients with gaping wounds, some weren't even carrying weapons but they still killed them. "These people will do anything to achieve victory, how disgusting". I continue down the hallway towards the Commander's room. Sentinels... 2 of them, one with half of his body missing the other without a head. "No mercy I suppose" I grimaced. As I closed the distance to the room, I heard voices. One was loud and recognizable and used certain words in his sentences that he often used. I was about to burst into the room before a certain word caught my attention, "Terms". I froze, "Terms"? I listened in and I heard what I supposed was the enemy commander, "Would you not agree" he bellowed. "Why should I" yelled my commander. "What prevents you from just betraying us and taking what we have left"? The enemy commander laughed, "Why would we, you fended off attacks from us and our allies for months"! "Your corporation has costed us a lot of money" he jeered. "Taking the last of your land would cost us more then what they would produce for months, maybe even years to come"! "The deal is simple, you ally with us and we'll let you keep your land", "Everyone wins right"?. Again it was quiet, so many thoughts were racing in my head I felt like it was gonna burst until, I felt a sharp pain through my body. I looked down to see a Nova Knife protruding out, then receding back. "Pain, so much pain" I thought. My vision turned cloudy and then darkness. It was over. It was all over.

What a ******* hypocrite, that's all i gotta say.
I actually almost joined FA because of his talk about giving land to other people once NS was beaten up and Tso's only wanting 10 districts a corp and all the **** about them being different because they weren't in it for isk and land or whatever ya know? Was different
Now I can see clearly, and all that are in FA have been ******* duped. Get out while you can.

What I care about are all these "competitive" players that post time and time again wanting "good fights," yet the majority of these same people actually run from true competition.

A group is made up of people. People within that group will have different interests and things that make them happy. Certain interests are guaranteed to make the majority of them happy.
In a competitive group, winning a lot is one of them. Active competition is another. Losing a lot is not one of them. When active competition is no longer possible due to reasons outside of their control, you are left with the options of winning a lot or losing a lot.

It was a good last stand, and well played, but FA was the epitome of winning the battle but not the war. We were under constant attack for two weeks straight from the best the game had to offer and we still kept most of our districts. But there was no way forward, no way to gain ground with constant attacks or to keep the ground we gained with stacked timers. I support Zatara and his decision as always, even as I mourn the loss of PC as a competitive field.

Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. Would you like to continue playing a game where you always die, and always lose? Because that's the direction FA was headed. Burnout, lack of districts, and lack of fieldable allies take their toll. I'll say it again. Zatara made the right decision. I have played and lost and lost and lost in PC. You can try to justify these decisions all you want, but it all comes down to being pathetic and taking a video game--a video game--too seriously. "Oh, poor me, I lost in a video game." And, sorry Beers, I didn't have my nerd bible within reach to catch your reference. Try winning sometime. It might give you perspective. Give me perspective on what? Zatara made a bad call...
Excluding the fact that you could've build back up without leaving Tso's,
You're increasing the chances of the Big Bad effect to the point where it WILL happen inevitably. FA, in a lot of people eyes, was the Anti-Blue Donut, the Anti-Eon if you will. People will see the change and a bag of mixed feelings will be had. This wouldn't matter if RND joined or Red Star or any other big corp, but only you. I'm not saying there's a cult following behind FA but rather they were a symbol, a ******* beacon. Some people don't even like you much, like myself, but still favor the Hell out of your corp. "We build this corp in only a few months. Just by bringing the best players together." is what players hear when they think FA. It's what small corporations use as inspiration to build up a force. It's all full circle now; everything's being forced into the cycle. The third war is about to come. The red horseman has saddled and drew his sword, Ares has taken an interest, and rage has begun plaguing the people.
This isn't a plea, but a warning. I hope for FA's sake that it doesn't go to **** thanks to being man-handled into a hole. I still hold FA in some strange honor... I prefer they come out of all of this better than before, on top and with the hindsight to realize that they need not call upon the Big Bad effect and that a Fourth Regional War doesn't need to be approached, and with the foresight to not be put into such a situation again.

What other choice did they have? FA was overwhelmed with all the opponents they had, couldn't defend their districts, and when RND left, it was pretty much over. Zatara joined so he could save FA. There are people like Himiko and Knight who didn't like it, but it was for the best of Zatara's corp.

Well they could've been kicked out of PC, which is more honorable of course, and then dealt with re-building their forces and making a strategic push onto a planet with the assistance of other corporations with similar goals. I mean, we, small corps, are constantly told that we can "just build up a small collective of players and fight" by every big corp but from your perspective from the inside looking out, it sounds like all of that was BS meta meant to keep corporations from being painted a Big Bad.
I wish I was in-game to talk to you more about this...Hell maybe grab Zatara's ear if he'd allowed it but my RL situations aren't allowing for it right now.
Maybe you are right. Maybe joining was the more logical choice for the current survival of the corporation but I still fully believe FA will be pushed into a war that they should've, at the most, been on the opposite side of. It's why I'm hoping they don't get liquidized after all of this.
And yeah the fact that a lot of FA's players were recruited from pubs gives them major cred with a lot of corps. To me, Zatara sold FA, publicly, as the "dream" corp, because it's what every small corp tries to become and essentially FA is still a small corp so you can imagine why I'm saying this is such a blow in the grand scheme of things.

I was one of FA's first members, and I'm a nobody.
But yeah man it's easy to look at FA and tell us to keep fighting the good fight or whatever, but as Patrick said it is overwhelming being in the position we found ourselves in. We successfully defended our remaining districts every night against some of the highest calibre mercs around, it was an exhausting (and expensive) business. Aside from the chest-beating of both parties, kudos to everyone involved in those battles, they were pretty epic.
FA is like a family though, we weren't brought together to destroy the tyrannical empire of Renegade Alliance or anything like that. Zatara just wanted to build a new corp and see how far it could grow. For all intents and purposes he succeeded. We have to do what is best for our corp at the end of the day. |

Ultimately this is another symptom of having so little room to breath in MH.
I was interested in following how FA came about and that they were making some headway. There are some good players - and just good folks - in the corp and I thought it was good to have another viable power developing in MH.
It's no secret that FA parted was with OSG / CI on less than good terms; I was out of the net for the short period they were allies so I saw very little first hand but the gist of the concerns seemed to be their desire to take on big bites and not being entirely prepared to do so. Ambition when coupled with capability can lead to both great success and failure.
Let me be clear...I think Zatara and FA did some very impressive things in a short amount of time. This was bound to draw the attention of the larger power players and with the size of MH and current PC mechanics it's just about impossible to secure a space, consolidate and grow, and bridge to bigger things. t doesn't surprise me that they had to submit to survive.
The rhetoric coming from FA as they were gaining steam was pretty positive and resonated with a lot of folks and they seemed to be trying to do something different. I'm not in the corp so I have no say or opinion in whether they doing the "right thing"...that's entirely for them to decide internally.
I might not have like how they went about somethings but I respected their accomplishments and still do.

Might be some truth to that...but that population is probably about 80% Dust. You guys are very successful and between you and about 3 other corps you control 90+% of Moldne Heath...I think most folks are frustrated at simply not being able to get a shot. I'm sure the ambush stomps color the new players quite a bit but it's hard for me to ding guys for wanted to play with their own corp.
In EVE you've got HighSec, LowSec, and NulSec and they you throw in faction warfare (Very different than what we do) and wormhole space and you have tons of options for individuals and groups to develop and expand. Here we have maybe 100-150 individual players that account for the bulk of the PC pool that just switch corps / alliances periodically or merc out.
In Dust...we just don't have those options. Not a lot of room to breath.
