With the coming changes in 1.8, meaning the new racial dropsuits, and the expansion of the DUST 514 armory, I'm no doubt very excited to play this game again. I've been a player of DUST 514 for a very long time, and it inevitably led me to play EVE Online, and soon I became to get more involved in the brilliant universe that you have created, known as New Eden. Since 1.7 was released to the players, I began to play less and less, being more and more frustrated with the new weapons you have put out, and the more nerfs to any role that isn't an Assault or Logistics. But let's not get into that.
As I was saying, since 1.7 was released, my time spent on the game slowly decreased. Partially because I moved, partially because I was getting more into PC gaming and in particular: EVE Online, and partially because of the current game's mechanics and diversity. Both of which are not at a place desirable by anyone.
The reason I joined this game, and maybe many other people's reasons, was to fight my own wars. The idea of creating alliances, making bounties, having an economy and a market, making billion-ISK corporations that fight for you, in a massively multiplayer, free-to-play, first person shooter, was fascinating to me. It continues to be an amazing concept. And I really do believe that you, CCP, can shape this game into what you imagine, and what your players imagine when they think of that sort of game. EVE Online is proof that you can make a universe-sized multiplayer sandbox. And what we have now is the first step in that direction.
New Eden is about making and breaking alliances, stabbing people in the back, and generally being a bad guy. But, at the same time, at least in my eyes, it's about doing something other than killing to make a profit. The fact that I can go out in my Venture and mine some resources, so that I can put those resources to work on building Megathrons to fuel other people's wars is brilliant to me. Rarely do I play a game, where killing is involved, but you don't need to kill to win. DUST needs this. In the future, no matter how long it takes, I want to be able to log on, go to a nearby planet, get my "M -1NE ORE Mining Laser", gather some Veldspar, and put it to work towards making some Gk.0 Gallente Scout Dropsuits, and then sell those Dropsuits to a big-name corporation to fuel a war that they're fighting.
The selling point for DUST 514 for many people, was that it was connected to EVE Online. But we don't see this connection very often, especially in anything other than Factional Warfare and Planetary Conquest. I hope that in the future, we'll be seeing a currency line-up with DUST and EVE (Meaning increased battle payouts for DUST players, and increased prices on DUST 514 items, so that 12 million ISK is now 600 million ISK), making it possible for EVE and DUST players to trade assets and ISK between each other, making the bond between games more obvious. And, referencing the above paragraph, building Thoraxes in DUST to power EVE wars and battles, and getting X amount of ISK in return. It also will work the other way around, EVE players being able to craft dropsuits and weapons for DUST players to use in the field.
One of the points for DUST was that dying matters. But at the moment, it doesn't. In the future, I hope to see a system possibly like EVE's, where we must upgrade our clone, or else when we die, we lose something very valuable (Skill Points, in EVE's case, although death is more common in DUST, so maybe something less brutal).
All of these things, you have an infinite time limit to do. For me, at least, there's no deadline on when these things get done. Ever since Uprising 1.0, this game, for me, was mostly about it's potential as a big title. I'm willing to wait longer for it to get more in-depth.
In all of 2013, you've dedicated your time to making DUST 514 a better first person shooter. You've done a mostly good job, in my opinion. The game is better than it ever has been, in the time that I've been here. For 2014, I hope to see you work on DUST 514 as a MMO, implementing the player economy, industry, more in-depth wars, mining, and many other things. I also wish to see more work done with game optimization, bug fixes, and the like. This, along with more maps, installations, weapons, dropsuits, and other content to make the game have more variety. I'd love to see a planet that's orbiting a Wormhole, or maybe a tundra planet. And who ever said no to a jungle planet?
CCP, I wasn't here to say it before, but let me be a little bit late and say it to you now: This is going to be a great year.
