Even fairy dust (no pun intended) has it cost.
Any no cost match should be single player only against AI. When another player is involved stuff is consumed, otherwise people would play only those private matches, as there weren't enough KDR padders out there... |

So there is now a loss and player get their seemingly free suits Yup, auto refunds could be one thing, although something would be needed to not make it exploitable (eg. proto fits ruining the corp wallet within minutes) |

An exception should be made for player-run corps that want to practice ahead of time for any future attack or defense. Eve Online players do this all the time in the Singularity Test server. Though they do consume items, those items aren't valuable by any means since everything in the test server is 100 ISK (even a Titan is 100 ISK in that server) and wallets are fat in there. In the case of Dust, you can have the lore mention this as some kind of VR training exercise. I still fear that it will result in people playing the game within the game instead of Dust, what's the rationale for players to play pub/fw/pc matches where they can lose stuff and standings if they can get some pew pew without consequences?
The concept of consequences is still hard to grasp for about 90% of the playerbase here (all hail the respec threads for example), this would make it even harder. Gear isn't that hard to reimburse when doing practice matches for any serious corp, making a "play for free the entire time" button is IMHO bad. But that's just my two euro cents, but if they would implement that VR mode please make it corp only (so no outside corps and members). I'd opt for a proper gladiator arena mode over VR. |
