Before 1.7 people hated the AR because it's optimal range for full damage was to large for most. Post 1.7 the RR and CR seemed to do full damage at any range. Optimal range for rifles at least seem to be a forgotten mechanic, and the RR and CR seem to do their full damage at any range. From what many understood before 1.7, the RR was suppose to be doing full damage at long range, and the CR was suppose to be strongest at short ranges. When depending on Rifle kick and charge time to "balance" optimal damage ranges as opposed to a mechanic that limits or maximizes damage according to range, feelings of OP are bound to arise.
Remember the argumen that an RR is rail tech, so the projectile should reach full speed and damage immidiately out of the barrel, wit no damage drop off at range because, again, its rail tech? That seems to be the issue in my mind. Actual optimal ranges need to be reintroduced/worked on, imo.

Problem is the AR is well outmatched at any distance. And the CR can hit just as hard at RR ranges as the RR. The idea of optimal ranges was applied to the AR and LR, then forgetten about/not applied to the other rifles. Even with all the nerfs to light weapons and damage mods, the CR and RR will dominate (though I think the Magsec will be seen alot), especially with the way armor/shield effectivness will work post 1.8. Just my opinions though.

My problem with basing weapons on DPS is you are saying that as long as a weapon fires an entire clip as fast as possible and connects on every single shot, that is automatically the amount of damage it always does in every situation.
In reality, not all clips are dumped as fast as possible, most engagments see both sides firing in burst as they jockey for position, and even then many bullets can miss. So the DPS for weapons in this situation is nowhere near what they say they are on paper.
I think for proper balancing, people need to drop the topic of DPS and figure out a better way to measure average damage between weapons in an engagement.
