PC is simply a way to make money. It has no impact whatsoever to New Eden except for the sheer fact that too much money is being made from a broken system.

Factional Warfare, on the other hand, can be considered honorable to take part in. You, even if a little, make a dent in the battles in space for control over territory. Nothing else in DUST- or even EVE- can do this except FW. You choose a side and support it. You can be a loyalist or you can fight for monetary gain in the form of LP.

In pub matches, rarely, but I've seen them get stomped a few times in PC, twice in a row in fact. Dark Legion and Psygod knocked them down, even with some of their better players in the game. It just comes down to the fact that usually when they get into a game, it's their full squad of proto against a bunch of randoms.
