Though they do work in slightly different ways, the balance is that in this you die significantly more. Dont change bpo's but introduce more for basic level equipment would be fine I think. Basic suits only save 3k per fitting. Even if I die a thousand times, big deal. Its my money to spend on a permanent suit. The fact that you said BPOs are in EVE and work in 'slightly' different ways annoys me. I'm sorry, but it does. I could give an explanation, but it wouldn't be 100% reliable as I wasn't an Industry nut. I was an explorer and on the side, a Rohk nuke, and a Megathron Logi. The TL;DR was that you can actually lose money using EVE BPOs, and they're infinitely more expensive.
I have to agree. I have dabbled in manufacturing, mining, and other parts of the industrial side of Eve Online. To state that the BPOs in Eve Online are "slightly" different from the BPOs in Dust is a gross mistake at best.
In Eve Online, a BPO costs only ISK which is usually purchased straight from the NPC corp. Some NPCs however only sell certain originals in null-sec regions of space. After that you can trade it for ISK with another player at another system or you can use it to manufacture things.
If you choose to manufacture with it, you have to spend time and ISK gathering the materials needed for production. During that time you have to research the BPOs so they can be less resource intensive which also takes time (as in days or weeks). And if you really want to maximize your efficiency, you'll need to build up your standings with the NPC corp that owns the station you're going to manufacture in which requires you to grind through a lot of missions.
Even after all that you then have to account for the production fees and available slots. If you don't own your own POS tower, you'll find yourself waiting in queue for the next available slot if you're in a busy system. You can find empty slots in more remote systems but you'll have to haul that stuff to the main hubs if you want to most profit and even then you have to watch out for suicide gankers if you're carrying expensive cargo.
Now let's compare that to Dust's BPOs.
In Dust, a BPO is an AUR item. It doesn't require any production fees, no minerals to produce, and it creates an infinite supply of said item at no further cost which practically undermines industry in general. That's it.
Eve and Dust BPOs are no where near similar and are vastly different. Due to the above comparison, Dust BPOs are a threat to the industry aspect of Dust should industry ever be introduced.
That said, I don't see CCP bringing them back into the NPC primary market. They are now just collectibles.
