Well. I cant play this game on HD without it completely crashing my PS3 so I'm forced to play in SD for all of eternity while playing this (No, its not my PS3. Dark Souls 2, Far Cry, Bioshock, TLOU, Tomb Raider, Borderlands, Demons' Souls and Starhawk can all be played on HD for hours, I cant even log on to check mail in DUST while in HD)
So, short answer. No. |

Yeah and I am certain they actually have a 16 vs 16 multiplayer mode in MGS5 on the PS3 lol

Just so you remember Mark Rein of Epic fought vigorously to have 512 MB of ram in the XBOX 360, there is only that much the unreal engine can do on the PS3 and Xbox, it is still very good on the PC because of the high availability of RAM.
Since there is a lot of ram on the PS4 there will be room for a lot more, if not graphics, it will be larger multiplayer for sure. Also there are twists that needs to be made on the PS3 so data can be processed by the cell processor. The ps4 comes back to the X86 architecture which will speed up development gracefully because of stack sizes in multi-threads.

I don't think that Dust 514's graphics can get radically better on the PlayStation 3. I mostly expect small improvements into engine optimization with the platform. (Again, which I doubt seeing the engine is Unreal, and it has many limitations when it comes to really huge maps such as the ones in Dust 514) My conclusion is based on the hardware that the PlayStation 3 is currently equipped with;
PlayStation 3 Specifications- Cell BE processor. In particular, the Cell processor on each node has only six SPEs accessible to the user out of eight. One of the eight SPEs is disabled at the hardware level due to yield reasons and another SPE is reserved for use by the GameOS operating system
- Memory system built of dual-channel Rambus Extreme Data Rate (XDR) memory. The PlayStation 3 provides a modest amount of memory of 256 MB
- A special edition graphics card from NVIDIA and 256 MB of video RAM.

Can the graphics on Dust get any better on PS3? Yeah, they could, performance could be better too. Will CCP be able to get the graphics (or performance) to be any better on PS3? I would not hold your breath.
Basically it comes down to the developer being able to optimize both the engine and the hardware. After two years, it seems pretty clear that there are limitations to the team's skill set...with the Unreal Engine, the Cell Processor and shooter design in general. It is also about resources, of which CCP seem to have few. Fair enough I guess with a F2P shooter but IMO somewhat of a cop-out.
There are dozens of games that ran on the PS3 and looked really good. These titles were no more 'demanding' than Dust is. I mean basically we are talking about a 16v16 shooter with vehicles. But other studios had bigger and better teams I guess. Lots of variables...few in CCP's favor. |

Its not entirely the engine and its not even the hardware thats the problem, its CCP inability to optimize So while this game could look better I dont think it will
Edit: Or what the guy above me said, I didnt read the whole thread and he puts it much better

MGO2 confirmed for MGS 5 actually, and anyone that played MGO with MGS 4 remembers the amount of customization and game modes available in that puts this game to shame Soooooo, yeah

And dust is not one of them, even though to be honest the graphics are pretty neat, and they can get better, plus I haven't seen such graphics in any other unreal engine game. But transfering it to PC sometime would be pretty much the best solution to everything. |
