I haven't seen a lot about this, but it really seems like my beloved Minmatar is getting the **** end of the stick when it comes to Sentinels in 1.8.
I understand the speed boost is nifty, though, it doesn't seem nearly significant enough to counteract the massive drop in EHP compared to other suits.
Then there's the resistances. Yes, having shield resistances to laser weapons is a good thing, the amount of people you encounter using said laser weapons is low, and I would think those numbers won't go up very much as the heavyocalypse is upon us.
Rails, and projectiles will still be the most used weapon types around. Thus leading me to believe the Gal sentinel has the best resistances.
Now lets talk about slots. 3/2 would be fine if there were high slots that augmented armor, or damage resistances in some way. But there aren't. Seeing as how sentinels rely mostly on armor (unless you're Caldari), Minmatar sents are extremely crippled here.
It could just be me, but I'm finding it hard to justify going Minmatar over Galente. It seems the Minmatar sentinel is the only suit in it's class that doesn't rely on actual tanking.
A sentinel without a ton of EHP doesn't sound like a very enticing offer to me. I would LOVE to hear how other people are justifying spending 3m SP to get a proto Minmatar sentinel. I would be happy if someone could convince me Minmatar isn't going from Winmatar to Minmatarded. |

But it seems you're suggesting ditching EHP for kincats or some such thing? The 5% movement bonus isn't actually that significant, unless you're using kincats, which seems to me rather contrary to what a heavy should stand for, particularly when you will be dropped by every other heavy since they have twice as much EHP, and probably have resistances vs. your weapon, where you have none vs. theirs (in all likelyhood) |

I'll be testing the advanced Min Sentinel. I'm thinking complex energizers, repairer and either ferroscale or regular plate depending on the situation. This will be my first heavy so I may fail epically.

I think the minmatar will be the least used because of the stigma. But there are some redeeming qualities here. It has IMO the BEST slot layout of all heavies (mimics the adv min assault) 3 high 2 low. The shield depleted/recharge is a bit gimped given the already low EHP but I don't think its gamebreaking. The pg/cpu will hurt this suit, but I'm not sure how bad(haven't run the numbers yet) The hidden gem of this suit is that it should always have a kin cat on it, with that take a look at the stamina regen rate. It is one of the highest in the game. This suit IMO will be the sentinel flanker, always sprinting around the map and a decent clip. If engaged by another heavy, simply run away to fight another day. Positioning will be vital with this suit, as any minmatar suit, so skilled players will see more success with it.
A fit right off the top of my head:
2xshield ext 1x shield energizer
1 x kin cat 1x shield reg (maybe 2nd kin cat?

Fit Kincats + Shield Extenders on it, then imaging it as an Assault suit that trades its equipment slot for an HMG. Not so bad, huh?
Here. An example. http://www.protofits.com/fittings/index/0/1439

It's legit and I've chased down Assaults and Scouts alike.
I don't know if the Minmatar Sentinel will be a good biotics tanker, but the Amarr Heavy can totally do it.

so then, in theory, wouldn't the Gal Sent + kincats be able to do the same as the Min Sent + kincats, but with more base EHP?
Lets consider you can fit 2x more kincats on Gal sent, and only be losing rougly 120 in shield extension, of which won't matter when your resistances are all for armor anyway...
Again, I'm not trying to argue Gal is better, it just seems that way! and thats BS! how is it even close to equal? |

Similarly the Amarr Scout's 30 extra EHP is nice, but it doesn't seem nearly significant enough to counteract the 4% drop in speed compared to the Gallente and Caldari scouts. Yes, literally 4%. People complain about complex armor plates only giving 148 HP for a 5% movement penalty, so let that 30 HP for a 4% movement penalty sink in a bit.
CCP seems to do a pretty bad job at making dropsuits fill their actual role opposed to letting racial archetypes completely ruin them. I agree with you that the Minmatar Sentinel looks pretty "meh." It should definitely be faster than the other sentinels and have less HP, but CCP took it too far IMO.

Well, It seems if I go Min sent, I'm going to have to scrap proto logi for a bit to get kincats (Since i only have biotics 3, *he says, shamefully*). But that actually doesn't bother me that much, considering how rarely I actually use proto logi. |

just like every other minmatar suit, it gives up ~15ehp for ~7% speed advantage after full dual tank fit.
take a gallente sentinel, fit a kincat and it suddenly is as fast as the minmatar suit but still has more EHP. that is obviously not a fair tradeoff which btw is not news. this is known for long now but CCP shanghai again refuses to use common sense and basic math skills...
but it is all fine as long as people buy boosters. |

idk, I'd just stack kincats in the lows and shields in the highs.
I'm not a heavy, but I always like the idea of more speed for less health, but that's probably my scout mindset speaking.

I think it will be the worst sentinel.
That said.
I think it will be the best heavy for assaulting a objective with some back up. The Caldari sentinel will be good, but not as good IMO.
I would run a min sentinel with a range amp, precision enhancer(or 2) and a kincat. Throw on a energizer and extender and the enemy won't know what him'em.
Or the suit could be useless, only time will tell.

Although admittedly my Heavy will be staying Amarr for the Stamina. However, I am seriously considering going Minmatar Heavy on Fox.

2xshield ext 1x shield energizer
1 x kin cat 1x shield reg (maybe 2nd kin cat? I run Speed Heavy. Logi canGÇÖt keep up with me. So you might want to switch that Shield Regulator out for an Armor repair, to recover your armor buffer between fights.
I would also suggest using the Assault HMG unless it is a real tight urban map. It works better for flanking as it gives you better range. If you encounter another HMG Heavy just start backpedalling. Once you are beyond 10m the Assault HMG starts to beat the normal HMG for damage and beyond 15m you will be able to take on fully brick tanked Heavies. The Assault HMG is not nearly as good as the normal HMG in CQC, but you can still take out Medium and Light frames up close.

What if the Minmatar Sentinel was less of a stand and deliver suit but rather heavy more meant for advancing? Most heavies are absolutely dismal at pushing an objective without a logistics but I imagine the sprint abilities of a Minnow Heavy would allow it to close gaps better when they can. Of course like any Minnow they'll need more cover to compensate for lack of health but it would sure be scary as hell to see an HMG 50 meters from you one moment, reload, then 20 meters the next.
I also believe the Minmatar Commando will hands down be the best commando and most prevalent.

I'm going proto Minmatar Sentinel day-1.
The playstyle I've developed relies upon the ability to strafe, move about the map quickly, and flank. Considering I've been using a Heavy with south of 1000 eHP... For about a year... This "weak" minmatar sentinel will be quite the step up.
Most people that are going sentinels would (I imagine) rather be lazy and absorb incoming fire, rather than rely on movement, positioning, situational awareness and the element of surprise.

I don't think so. It gets bonuses to explosive and projectile weaponry. The explosive bonus buffs its Swarm Launchers. But more importantly, I believe the combo of explosive/projectile bonus will be used to fit the soon to be buffed Mass Driver together with a Combat Rifle.
Lots of reds all holed up in that room by the objective? MD away!!! Close range fire fight in tight spaces? Combat Rifle to the face! My prediction is that MinComs will kill it in close range installation fighting. The more crowded, the better.
EDIT: OH SNAP! I had a read fail. disregard.
