I know many of is have raised this question before, but with the new build around the corner, I was just wondering if anyone had heard or read anything new on this topic? Will tanks show up on passive scans? Will a scout like me still have to hide in a structure because, despite having enhanced scanning skills and equipment, the giant blaster tank outside makes less of a blip on my radar than another scout? This and the RDV spawning on top of another vehicle are the only seriously "broken" elements at play right now, imhop. Unbalanced weapons, FOTM, protostomping, unbalanced matches, etc are more just the inevitable result of a lot of people playing a game with a ton of options. Some get their kicks from a good, exciting battle, some get their kicks from the community knowing they're on the leaderboard, some get it from seeing their kist skyrocket in pubs. None are wrong, although some get annoying...ok, I'm rambling. So tanks? Fixed? Info? |

Didn't know it was a problem. Nor have I heard of any solution for it. I don't even know what that would be.
Scouts will continue to be a problem for tanks as their scan profile is lower than the scanners tanks are limited to.
It is good to know this is a two way street with trouble at either end.
And so it goes.

One of the biggest problems with tanks. I'm half convinced that if we had perfect visibility on tanks that they wouldn't be half as bad as they are.
I could say the same for grenades.

A scout is supposed to be a problem for everyone because of their scan profile - that's why they're so easy to kill, but a tank is, well, a freaking tank! If a medium frame drop suit, which I can kill with a knife, shows on my radar, doesn't it seem a bit weird that a tank, which I can only run away from, does not? |

Tanks should have a the biggest scan radius in the game! They should show up no matter what, in my opinion! example: Tank gets on any players overview mini map it should show plan and simple! |

The issue is with the scan radius of dropsuits. You will easily see that tank on your tacnet if he is within 10m of you. By then of course, you should have figured out he was there anyway.
Best PVE idea I've seen.

I was unaware I was plagued by ninja tanks. To put it simply, if anything is outside of the range of your suit's scan radius, then no. It shouldn't appear on your minimap. Even HAVs.
If you want to argue for long scan ranges, that would be worth discussing.

If you want to argue for long scan ranges, that would be worth discussing. How about we pull an EVE and have scan profile measured in metres with falloff in signature strength instead of a bizarre set of hard limits?
So, say we give medium suits a 200 cm scan profile, heavies 300 cm, and lights get 150 cm. We'll give mediums a scan precision of 55 cm. This would make another unmodified medium suit only show up on your passive scan if it was within 3.6 m, effectively point blank (BUT not totally invisible, either.) Say we set a basic active scanner's precision at 5 cm. It'll pick up unmodded lights within 30 m, mediums within 40 m, heavies within 60 m, and tanks within 200 m (assuming a 1000 cm scan profile.)
Heck you could have some modules increase signature size as a drawback. So adding a basic shield extender would increase your signature by 5%, enhanced by +8% and complex by +10%, for instance, instead of modifying shield recharge depleted delay.

this realy has more to do with the fact that dropsuit have such small scan range compared to a tank one think people always forget is tanks and infantry operate on different scales what is short range to tank is mid range on suits this means that tanks normal are going to be outside of most dropsuit scan ranges there is also the fact that all scan results are taken from the center of the object for a man in a suit this is not a problem as his center is lined up verticaly a tank however is lined up horizontaly this means that if only part of the tank is in your scan range then it will not show up you most cover the center of the hull to actually see the tank show up there is also the fact that there is a short deley between when an object enters your scan range and it showing up on your overview a vehicle can very easly move through your small scan range before the game has time to registar that it is there

A simple directional sound scan should be able to locate and identify a moving tank with a fair precision out to several hundred meters. We've got that tech today. |
