You know, I'm glad we're getting that respec since I'll be dropping my dampened mediums as they will be useless in 1.8.
Will anyone really bother dampening, considering the Cal Scout scan precision numbers flying around - sub-20dB?
Be prepared to get scanned no matter how many damps you stack - I'll scan you even if you use five AND a cloak.
Sorry, you guys who complained about being perma-scanned in 1.4-1.7, as now you'll be perma-passive-scanned in 1.8.
For those thinking that a focused scanner will help, good luck when it's less than 1/12th as effective as it was pre-1.8.
Nerfing active scans while adding low precision makes dampening useless for non-scouts, as with range and precision.
Scanners won't compare to passive scans with the new scanner mechanic, which are not only 360*, but constantly on. |

Yes. Because very few Calscouts will be using 3-4 precision enhancers.
A single profile dampener will prove useful in 1.8, I suspect.
You have long since made your choice. What you make now is a mistake.

I am aware. A single profile dampener will hide you from unmodded/non-Caldari scout passive scans, though. That's significant.

The Cal and Gal scouts are definitely the default uber-passive-scan/uber-profile-damp suits, but considering most folks aren't level 5 in all relevant skills and aren't necessarily planning on scan/stealth optimizing their suits, and in any case aren't usually always running full proto, I look forward to seeing what sort of scan vs. damp bell curves arise across all suits/stereotypical fits.

Dampening to get under vehicles and cheap scanners will always be beneficial.
Trying to hide from the king hunter in suits not specialized in that area is .....
Back in the real world: Everyone wont be a Cal Scout and every Cal scout wont run 2+ enhancers. If they do they better not miss or my dirty stare will drop them.

Dampening is useless on mid frames because 1 suit can still see you? This is the "Dampening is useless because 1 scanner can still see you" argument.
That scanner was designed to pick up scouts and the C-Scout is designed to do the same. If a scout can't get the jump on you then that scout is dead, it's as simple as that. I'm just upset that the A-Scout doesn't have enhanced EWAR like the others.

Isn't that the whole point? Dampeners were never really meant to be practical on anything other than a scout. That's like trying to put on a ghillie suit on a regular infantry when its best used on a dedicated sniper. Sure the medium will become a little less visible, but it's the scouts that should reign supreme in the stealth department. Otherwise scouts will just get marginalized like how they are now in 1.7 compared to logis.

If more EWAR tools are ever introduced, I can probably see the Amarr Scout in the future having its role one day changed to jam enemy TACNETs.

I'd put a complex damp on my mediums if I had room. It would take care of quite a bit of the battlefield.

U saw how all scanners precision was nerfed right? On pro damp on a medium means you need a gal logi adv scanner or pro scanner to see you. |

It will still be fine on snipers. Your Cal scout isn't likely to venture anywhere near the sniper.

Does passive scan light them up for the whole team, or just the squad, like an active scanner does?

I will still be dampening my suit with a single complex dampener. Why? Std/Adv Scanners can't see me Vehicles can't see me Passive Scans on Medium/Heavy Suits can't see me Passive Scans on the Majority of Scouts can't see me
However with Scouts become more prelevant in 1.8, profile only dampening will become less useful as people are gonna be looking out for those scouts ALOT, but here in 1.7 unless I doing the maccarena in the middle of an open field, being profile dampened on a medium suit is near as good as full blown invisibility.

Dampners are more like DPM's if you don't have it, you stick out like a sore thumb, if you do have it requires effort to spot. If your in a ghillie suit your practically invisible, people have mistaken me for all kinds of things.

yeah most cal scouts wont even look twice at precision enhancers
and most assault dont even set up their suit like an assault
i've been running some gal assault suits to liquidate my inventory
and my adv is set up like this
high slots- enhanced light damage mod and basic sidearm damage mod
low slots- complex rep, complex cardiac, complex damp
light weapon- gek, sidearm m512 smg
m1 locus grenades and a45 active scanner
this is my style of assault because hes fast and can jump over railings and avoid 36 and 35 db scans
another way I would set up a gal assault is
high slots- enhanced light damage mod and complex precision
low slots- complex rep, complex range, and complex damp
light weapon- gek, sidearm- m209 assault smg
flux or locus and k2 nanos

Yes. I've got a Cal Assault and a Cal Logi ready to go with profiles under 28dB.
-They can hide from all active scanners except one. Only the Duvolle Focused will see them and its target visibility duration is only 5s.
-They can hide from passive scans from any nonCal scout, even with Precision Enhancement 5 and a single complex precision enhancer. I doubt anyone will be using more than 1 precision enhancer on a nonCal scout.
TL;DR They will hide from almost everything.

I always forget what the ranges on the minimap are.
As for the passive scan on gal/cal scout:
20m (base) * 1.5 (skill) * 1.25 (suit) = 37.5m
Complex range amps are 45% so: 1 range amp: 54m 2 range amps: 76m |

Cal scouts are paper. Even if you know where I am facing you still have to drop me without me getting shots off. Thayt hard.
With the cloak everyones head is gonna be on a swivel. Things might actually be harder for scouts.
Regardless 27 dbs beats any active scanner.
Im not from new eden. I dont need back up, political power or support. I, unlike you dont fear nuetral territory.
