First off, let's understand that the only fully-automatic sidearm pre-1.8 was the SMG. I prefer automatic weaponry to semi-auto weapon in just about every game I play so naturally I skilled into the SMG. It was the only sidearm that was fully auto so it made sense.
Now I am told that the MagSec SMG is being released. A Caldari sidearm?! Glory glory hallelujah! I will happily skill into it as soon as 1.8 drops. Now what happens to my SP in the SMG? Well it is just going to sit there because I never plan on using Minmatar weaponry. Yes, you heard me, never. Once 1.8 hits I will not be picking up the SMG again. I will either be fitting a MagSec SMG or bolt pistol. I like using the scrambler pistol sometimes so I might dump some SP into it, but not much.
In order to have a competitive sidearm I skilled into the SMG: 0.75 - 1mil SP. All that SP wasted.
Why are you punishing us CCP? We were playing your game with the cards we had been dealt at the time.

So... The SMG is still a valid side arm. Any nerf falls inline with all merge attempting to increase time to kill. It is your own pwrsonal choice to skip using the SMG. Um... Sorry, no sympathy here. it is your own choice that is making those SP go to waste, not CCPs. Deal with it.
I could understand is say the SMG was becominh nerfed into oblivion or changed into some totally different function like a paint ball gun. It's not. It will still work, stoll ne a decent weapon and the only issue is you. So sorry, just not offering any sympathy since it's your choice to go pure magsmg. |

Bleh. Just stack up the SP for the new one? I'm not trying to be funny when I say it either o,o. While you don't intend on using the SMG you should keep it and use it until you can proto the MagSec.

Full auto in the same way that assault forge guns and railgun turrets are
the annoying kind of full auto where you have to predict when the next shot is coming out and have the gun lined up for it
not the fun bullet hose kind of full auto |

Why are you punishing us CCP? We were playing your game with the cards we had been dealt at the time. I willbe doing the same thing lol and im still trying to switch from the AR to the combat rifle but i just cant bring myself to do it because i have maxed out the AR with so much SP. CCP the one thing that really bugs people is to be putting are SP in a sideways pattern instead of building foreward in the long term of how we want to make are merc. once you have all the guns out and balance everthing so that nothing is more OP then something else then it is time for a respec.

Why are you punishing yourself by ignoring a weapon because of your silly fascination with which race invented/manufactures them?

If both sidearms had been available to me day one, you would be completely right, but they weren't.
What were players supposed to do? Not spend any SP into weaponry until we had full racial parity? That would mean not staying competitive for over a year! What kind of player, or company, thinks that is acceptable?

Some people role play as their intended race. I like the Caldari/Amarr design aesthetic myself. Plus most Caldari weapons are long(ish) range and I enjoy mid-to-long range combat a lot. Minmatar and Gallente tend to be more short-to-mid range.

After a while of using the rail rifle I got used to it. I know what you mean though. A friend let me play his HMG Prof V sentinel once and it was pretty intense.

*Late night at a Caldari weapons shop. The door opens and a man enters with his face covered in shadow of his hat, shadow that falls from blurred light in half-dark weapons shop.
Man: You have the SMG? - he said with tired smoked voice Seller: I do, brand new technology, I got some for Loyalty if you have any? M: I don't fight for loyalty, I fight for justice. S: Oh I see, so maybe you would prefer Mim-SMG, great weapon, you know? - a bit nervous... M: I do, but I found out that no more I do need it, all my experience is no more needed in use of such weapon. S: Why so? What happened, you can always use your skills to any other weapon of such type.
*Man starts laughing softly then suddenly stops, leans towards seller and says
M: What if I tell you that this is a world that has no logic, this is just a sick game of some demi-gods. S: Oh you...! What nonsense, never heard such. Can you prove? M: Hmmm, see I can't use my experience that is only for one weapon and if I want to use another one I need to practice same in order to be as good or sometimes not so good. Somehow the grip, hip fire, ability to aim and precision is not related to my overall skill of arms usage but on the time I waste on my weapon. S: But this has no logic... M: I know... the demi-gods...remember, this is the truth...
*Man turned around shoving his trench coat after him and left the shop without any word.
Who was that? - suddenly asked a young man that just exit from the weapon storage.
S: I have no clue...
