First off, let's understand that the only fully-automatic sidearm pre-1.8 was the SMG. I prefer automatic weaponry to semi-auto weapon in just about every game I play so naturally I skilled into the SMG. It was the only sidearm that was fully auto so it made sense.
Now I am told that the MagSec SMG is being released. A Caldari sidearm?! Glory glory hallelujah! I will happily skill into it as soon as 1.8 drops. Now what happens to my SP in the SMG? Well it is just going to sit there because I never plan on using Minmatar weaponry. Yes, you heard me, never. Once 1.8 hits I will not be picking up the SMG again. I will either be fitting a MagSec SMG or bolt pistol. I like using the scrambler pistol sometimes so I might dump some SP into it, but not much.
In order to have a competitive sidearm I skilled into the SMG: 0.75 - 1mil SP. All that SP wasted.
Why are you punishing us CCP? We were playing your game with the cards we had been dealt at the time.

Be'e Po wrote:So... The SMG is still a valid side arm. Any nerf falls inline with all merge attempting to increase time to kill. It is your own pwrsonal choice to skip using the SMG. Um... Sorry, no sympathy here. it is your own choice that is making those SP go to waste, not CCPs. Deal with it.
If both sidearms had been available to me day one, you would be completely right, but they weren't.
What were players supposed to do? Not spend any SP into weaponry until we had full racial parity? That would mean not staying competitive for over a year! What kind of player, or company, thinks that is acceptable?

Some people role play as their intended race. I like the Caldari/Amarr design aesthetic myself. Plus most Caldari weapons are long(ish) range and I enjoy mid-to-long range combat a lot. Minmatar and Gallente tend to be more short-to-mid range.

After a while of using the rail rifle I got used to it. I know what you mean though. A friend let me play his HMG Prof V sentinel once and it was pretty intense.
