Best reading you'll ever do. o7 for fellow logi.
What he said. Not sure how much it has been changed to reflect 1.8, but it will still apply at your level of SP.

Precision enhancers or range amplifiers (highs) will make you see people better and further out, respectively.
Profile dampeners (lows) make you harder to see. There are also passive skills that give you all three, very helpful but not necessarily a high priority below 5-10 mil SP

I might need to depend on those skills before the modules unless I can affored to use advanced. Plus I think it will be more beneficial to my team if I can scan more precisely.
My bad, I misunderstood your question. The modules only apply to passive scans. To make active scans better you only have 2 options: a better scanner or upgrading the level of your gallente logi suit.

I'm no expert on the gal logi, but sounds good, especially if you are in a squad that depends on you for the scans.
A good rule of thumb is that if your weapon is the same of lower tier than your equipment and you don't stack damage mods, that's a legit logi fitting.
And enjoy your first like, fellow logibro.
