People have often asked if various pieces of equipment are OP, and if various mechanics should be implemented to dull down there effectiveness. This thread is basically a continuation of that
Uplinks and PC In every PC match I play with nyain, uplinks on both parties are always spread in order to maximize the area we can cover in as short a period of time as possible. Many people would argue this OP as we can rush any area and objective if it comes under threat, and we cannot be stalled unless the already difficult to see uplinks are searched and destroyed. So, what if uplinks deactivated or even self destructed once the user leaves its vicinity? This means, that if the force defending point A was completely overwhelmed and wiped out, its ability to constantly reinforce without fail is also temporarily wiped out (depending on how the game plays out) Meaning that players cant spawn, throw 4 uplinks, die, respawn, and recycle until victory or clone wiped.
Equipment Traps Another aspect that could be very interesting, is the ability to booby-trap and / or hack enemy equipment for WP. Personally, i think an insta-killing booby-trap on an uplink is just asking for hate mail and forum rage, so i would say that the trap acts like a stasis webifier (slows the unit and prevents them from sprinting for, lets say, 10 seconds) and will only apply to the next single target that uses the equipment. Maybe even a selection of traps can be made available in the marketplace, such as a flux trap which destroys the link, and depletes the targets shields by 50%. Use your imagination! Possible traps for hives could be the ability to deduct ammunition for 3 ticks. If nanites can generate, surely they can degenerate too as they do with fallen enemy corpses and vehicle wrecks. And for nanite injectors, maybe you can booby-trap fallen enemies and if somebody tries to revive the unit, they are hit with a grenade to the face! who knows.
So is the current state of equipment okay as it stands, or should fail mechanics be implemented to both increase the fun and the mayhem?
opinions?

I have been wondering why so many things fail to work in Dust. Now I know. They have a failure mechanic. I wish that particular mechanic would take a break for 15-20 minutes every time I start a match. Maybe longer if I am using any turret in a tank.
Okay, joking aside @Xaviah Reaper there were several plans in those general directions.
First up was when the Merc that deployed a hive died, the hive would become a land mine. I was never sure if that made sense or not but it was discussed.
Then we had Uplinks that were for ONE squad, their scout would sneak in and deploy then the squad would follow. There was a very small limit for the number of clones to use it (5?) and once the last arrived the uplink was exhausted. I keep hoping we would actually get that one because a squad specific uplink has some uses that are worth exploring.
The webifier is an EVE thing and I really hopes it stays there. Dust is a hell hole for those new to the game. Adding exotic ways to screw them over even more seems just a tad ... well, not very friendly for a F2P game. I'll leave it at that.
While many things in any game can degenerate that idea applied to hives is a stretch. How would it store the nanites when it has been just deployed and not accessed? Spew a little pile of them like a gift from a dog that ate too much? Adding any graphics load is a very bad idea when we are down in the Dust.
And so it goes.

I like the squad only idea as well, as it puts squad structure into question. PC squads will have to be carefully allocated and built to suit players more so than they currently do. Im okay with this :)
Just don't get why every uplink works with every player? how could this technology be explained? I think players with hacking to 5 should be able to use enemy uplinks, seeing as I can only see uplink team assignment working through programming and codes given to the friendly forces, like a radio frequency.
