I only have 1.5 mil sp. The 2-2.5 mil sp I will get is a huge boost. I was thinking of shield and armor to 5. after that, no clue. So what would you all suggest? |

That would really depend on what you already have unlocked.
If I had only 3mil SP and started a character from scratch, here is how I would spend it:
Dropsuit Command 1 - 6220 SP Racial Basic/Special Dropsuit both to 3 (whatever class you want to spec into) - 820800 SP Dropsuit Upgrades 2 - 24870 SP Armor Upgrades 1 - 12440 SP Armor Plates 3 - 130590 SP Shield Upgrades 1 - 12440 SP Shield Extension 3 - 130590 SP Core Upgrades 2 - 49740 SP Drop Uplinks 3 - 205200 SP Nanocircuitry 3 - 205200 SP Electronics 3 - 342000 SP Engineering 3 - 342000 SP Weaponry 3 - 68400 SP Explosives 3 - 136800 SP Grenadier 3 - 273600 SP Demolitions 1 - 12440 SP Light Weapon 1 - 12440 SP Rifle of Choice 3 - 136800 SP
Comes out to 2,996,180 SP.
From there, if you want to shield tank, get your extenders to proto. If you're armor tanking, I'd suggest getting nanocircuitry to proto so you could use repper hives. Get your core fitting skills up as you unlock stuff, to make sure that you'll be able to equip what you unlock. Check out the Dust Fitting Tool so you know that your fittings will be valid as you progress.

Personally I won't spend any till 1.8. I would say wait, then try lvl 1 of some of the new stuff to see if you like it. Spend some serious time thinking and mapping out what you want to do, none of the "OMG I NEED THAT!". Chances are some if not most of the new weapons/equipment will get nerfed shortly after release and you don't want to dump a pile of sp into something that's useless 3 months later.

Biotics, engineering etc.
Things that can enhance any suit regardless of which role you choose to head in.

You can't go wrong with core upgrades (armor, shield, cpu, pg).
Try and keep enough SP to meet the minimum requirements of an advanced weapon and dropsuit of your choice.

So what would you all suggest? no matter what anyone says, get you core to level 5. That's armour, shield, passive scanning skills and fitting. That way no matter what your playstyle or suit your getting the most out of it.

Shields - 5% more base shields per level Armor - 5% more base armor per level Engineering/Electronics - %5 more base CPU/PG per level
If you don't have shields/armor to level 5 and Engineering/Electronics to at least level 3, you need to rectify that.
But as others stated, wait till 1.8 drops before spending any of it.
After your core skills are up, then start slotting into modules/eq/weapons, THEN start skilling into suits.

Passive scanning skills for a newbie? You're talking about precision enhancement and range amp??? That's even worse advice than getting armor/shield upgrades to 5 before anything else.
Range amp and precision enhancement are useless on mediums/heavies. They might be okay on the Logi if you're willing to use the modules at the expense of gimping your suit. Profile dampening, while useful in 1.7, won't be as necessary in 1.8 since the scanning mechanic will change. |

The big ones are
- Dropsuit shield upgrades
- Dropsuit armor upgrades
- Electronics & engineering
They all give amazing passive bonuses to any fits from your proto to militia.
Some other "core skills" that are totally worth it once you hit >10 mill are
- Profile dampening
- Range amplification
- Biotics
Most skills in the dropsuit upgrades tree gives you a decent bonus, just make sure to check every skill.
