Seeing as I shield Tank anyway I'm going to be retiring my trusty Cal Assault and replacing it with the Cal Scout
At Proto Scout level we have
4 H 2 L
70 A 130 S Recharge delay 3 s depleted delay 4s 50 shield recharge rate Hacking Speed Bonus Scan Profile 35 Precision 40 Distance 20m 5.45 Ground Speed (same as gal scout current speed) 200 Stamina 30 stamina recharge 348 CPU 68 PG
The Caldari Reload Bonus and extra low slot really aren;t good enough reasons to skill back into it
1.8 Will make Caldari Assaults a very rare breed
They have less CPU and PG, worse regen of shields and stamina, less stamina, higher scan profile etc etc etc
Even if the reload bonus is important to anyone .. why not go commando ? More damage + has the same reload bonus as well as more hp .. the Cal Assault is in between the commando and assault but has no real benefit as you'll be slower than a cal scout without the cloak option and have less damage and hp than the cal commando
They really should've given the cal assault an ROF bonus .. a skill other caldari suits don't have .. but instead they gave it the same skill as the commando .. the cal assault will have all the same fitting issues in 1.8 as it does now
The 2m sp will let me take the cal assault to proto for week b4 1.8 and then its off to proto cal scout

Ccp has said they couldn't get to redoing slots and base stats on the medium suits for 1.8. My prediction is 1.9 or 2.0 will have them redone and people will scream for another respec. |

To tell you the truth, even though I'm specc'd into it, I haven't used a Caldari assault class for quite some time.

I like the reload bonus. Its actually a practical asset in battle. Especially in PC.
However, I'll stick with Amarr Assault and probably trade my Caldari Assault with Caldari Logi, we'll see.
I don't which Scout Im going to pick yet though. I might forgo Scouts until later.

(on a side note have you seen how ugly the gallente heavy is? good lord it doesn't even match the gallente medium like the cal medium-heavy)

OP, I was originally thinking the same thing but when I put all the numbers down the CalAssault is superior in everything but pure DPS and has almost the same eHP potential. I want very much want the CalCommando to be successful but I don't think it's there yet.
That said, I'm pretty dissapointed in the CalAssault racial bonus...never understood why they went in that direction. It does put the suit at a real disadvantage compared do the Amarr and Minmatar now but I'm probably still going to keep it skilled after 1.8. It's a solid versatile suit that I've used since day one of playing. I'll be diving deep into one of the other Caldari suits (not sure which one yet! ) but I'll hang onto the trusty CalAssault.

Same here I love the versatility of the CalAssault even if its bonus is a bit disappointing to me Ill stick with it...I do think that It will make engaging multiple targets easier...well with RR at least not sure with the Mag or Bolt |

Im also abandoning the caldari assault, it has been "OK" for too long, and not stood out in any role (shield buffer tanking like it is supposed to). The reload bonus was just the last nail in the coffin.

The Cal Assault suit is a great suit on its own, the bonus he now gets is the bonus from the very beginning of uprising, and back there some still liked that bonus.
But I have to agree that the bonus is way weaker compared to the Amarr/Minmatar bonus.
The same is true for the gal Assault bonus but there its even worse as only ONE weapon can really make some benefit from that bonus. For the Cal Assault there are at least two more weapons that can benefit from it... |

I've no idea which suit to go for on my Cal alt... He's pretty weak SP wise, and was started as a logi (like all my toons) but has been used with basic assault suits to grind isk lately. RR pr 2 on this one, though I don't like it at all. But since it's the strongest weapon on that char, I might go commando and mix it with either AV Lazor or MD (my preferred weapon). Heavy with forge might work too. I don't know, my caldary toon is the hardest to decide where to go... |

Because when CCP put forth the new assault bonuses that were somewhat useful, Amarr ScR users whined (not naming names but you should be able to back out to GD and get general idea of who), and whined, and whined about losing the heat build-up reduction bonus. Bonuses are revised to be more similar to the amarr bonus f***ing over gal/cal in the process. Oh, wait they weren't done yet they whined, and whined that the RoF bonus doesn't benefit one of their 3 racial rifles. Rof bonus gets scrapped too.

Which is some horsesh*t. They didn't change much from Sisi stuff, how they couldn't look at 8 suits to balance them is idiotic. They all need the same number of slots (all Commandos, Sentinels, and Scoutshave the same number of slots, in respect to suits of their type) and to tweak other stats. They did part of that, mainly Minmatar stamina and shield recharge(though that's still low), and added the really nice hacking multiplier, but that's pretty much it.

heavies are more powerful but can't quickly move from objective to objective
scouts are faster but weaker and that cloak doesn't make you invincible. in fact assault suits can fit the cloak if they use PG/CPU upgrades in their low slots for it

I'd really like to see the Amarr assault get one more low slot.
I'll be really tempted to just put some levels into Amarr assault anyways for that heat cost reduction

Plus as it has more CPU and PG I can actually fit equipment on the suit .. it has a 23 DB 50 Shield recharge (20 higher than the assault) has a depleted recharge delay of 4.69 secs and a normal recharge delay of 2.68 .. it's faster , can cloak and use REs
450 shields with a 2.7 delay and 50 recharge is better than 493 shields with 30 recharge and a 7 second delay
The reload bonus doesn't make up for all that |

And that reply in a nutshell proves that you dont have a clue what your talking about
Cal Assaults are Shield Tankers ... they aren;t meant to stack plates as it doesn;t fit with their hit and run playstyle and this is why the Cal Scout is better
If you want speed use scout if you want HP use Commando .. this is the original point I made |
