It might be because I live a block away from the Comcast building. I don't know. But I seriously RARELY get lag. And when I do it's either minimal, or the entire 32 player match lags to death.
Some guy in my squad the other night was complaining about frames per second issues. I told him I dont get those either.
Even when my corp had a PC against Mottainai JAPAN and they got the Oceania server and lagged us to death, I didn't experience that lag while everyone else did.
Other players will lag sometimes. They will be in one spot and then warp to another spot. But it's hardly ever an issue. I can still target them easily.
I do remember in 1.6 or 1.5 I had serious lag issues, where my player would walk in directions I didn't tell him to, and I'd have to stop touching the controller for up to a minute before it would work again. It was really bad.
Then all of a sudden it stopped. Forever. They must have fixed it during downtime because I have never experienced it again. Recently I have been getting a MINOR version of this lag. But it goes away after a second or two.
Seriously guys. The thing everyone talks about with equipment spam? Lag switching? None of it affects me.

When I started playing in closed beta my lag was rough and then my router died, I bought another and it died shortly after. I bought a very expensive router and it helped but what made the most difference was when I connected straight to the modem. Up until about four months ago I never played without being directly wired to the modem. I have had more lag and rubber banding in those four months than I have in the last year.
I can tell a difference in almost every aspect of the game when I change between wired to the router, wireless to the router and wired to the modem. Direct modem connections, for me, fixes almost every performance problem I have and even the difference between wired and wireless to the router is noticeable.
I also replaced a comcast modem right after beta started. I do believe that some of the performance problems people experience is caused by poor connections. I had a fatal error about two weeks ago and that is the only one I can think of, people complain about fatal errors a good bit but I never have that problem.

Being that you live close to a comcast building really doesnt effect you that much. i work for the company as a maint tech and i live about as far away from the main "building" as u can and i never lag either. you probably have a really clean system maintain by good techs. plus there are so many other factors that can play into lag besides your isp.

I don't get bursts of lag or anything but its like I'm playing .2 sec behind everyone. I've learned to play around it over the years but I would love to play just one game on one of ccp's inhouse consoles to see if its allin my head or not.

Better than having a poor connection or router and blaming CCP like many of us do. He is right, the better the connection the better the performance of DUST.
My son plays DUST and is wireless to the router, I am wired to router with my PS3 and there is a noticeable difference and I payed over $100 for my router about a year and half ago. Time of day, distance to the the ISP, distance to the router, quality of service, quality of router/modem, quality and type of connection to the home run devices make a huge difference. 8am-10am at my house, it isn't even worth trying to play an online game because of morning business internet traffic and school internet traffic. Trying to play a FPS is like putting a pissed off pit bull in a cat carrier, it isn't going to happen and if it does you aren't going to like it.

It's gotten really bad lately. I don't know if it's just me, but I can't use my shotgun anymore because of it. I've been forced to use medium suits with full auto weapons just to even have a chance.
I need to figure out how to set up a static IP.

As soon as you start using the game and pressing buttons in engagements... The Frame rate dips are extremely noticeable to anyone knowing what they are experiencing.. Specially when far away targets stop moving in stop motion with no fluidity at all.. Almost all far away targets are like this, there is no smooth running or movement its jittery jumping.. when you get multiple people in a hallway the frame rates are sub 20...
Most of the people that don't notice any difference or have no idea what anyone is talking about are usually the ones that don't know the difference between 60 FPS and 30... even if you showed them with video..
It's also in almost every game review for DUST even recent ones on this very patch 1.7
The gameplay's more tangible issues are too numerous to recount in full. Battlegrounds are too large for the player count, resulting in long stretches where enemies are nowhere to be found. They're wastelands of muddy industrial sameness, with no attention to scale or flow. Paths dead-end nonsensically. Ladders and hallways lead to empty rooms devoid of relation to objectives or tactics. Weapon types are tremendously imbalanced. Audio effects sound cheap and have little relevance to the direction or proximity of their source. Dips in the frame rate result in distant enemies frequently looking like they're moving in stop-motion.
But Maybe bamboo has a super PS3 that even the industry game testers and reviewers don't have access to.. Or better residential connections then commercial offices built around the gaming industry. |

I don't have the lag issues either, but I also know how to configure my internal network farther than the wizard on the router's initial configuration.
Static IP doesn't matter much compared to a wired connection and not-crap switches and router. A home network should cost more than $100 usd.
Wireless is convenient, wired is reliable.
Also, if you have a modem that isn't DOCIS 3.0 compatible, look into an upgrade. Modem's are available from Best Buy for ~$75 usd. |

Look up the speed of light, its pretty fast if somebody is using fiber optic, which would be obviously what most isp have around carrying network signal unless you live in a third world country.... Or in quebec in the outer regions....
Most of the time i am under the impression its the dust servers that have hiccups...

Asides from your personal connection it also has to do with your relation to the closest CCP Server. In my experience it seems that most people in the Eastern US (and Canada) tend to have bad connections to the Dust servers. I don't know why.

I'm in the eastern US. It's because their ******* ISP sucks.

No, it's because I don't experience a difference. I know what ******* framerate is. When you do a TAS (tool assisted speedrun) you slow the frames down so you can pause them and advance them manually, to have an outcome that a human couldn't achieve with the naked eye.
