Cons of the Mass Driver: -Limited range -Low DPS -Low ammo count -Slow reloads
Pros of using a commando: -Increase to weapon damage -Can carry two light weapons, effectively doubling the time it takes for you to need ammo -Bonus to reload time
The minmatar commando gets a bonus to explosives weapons and is fast enough to cover enough ground to get to the enemy. Also has an equipment slot for a nanohive for back-up ammo, and enough HP to where you can use your module slots instead of damage mods and speed. On top of all this because you can carry two of them, you can fire off 12 rounds (or 16 with assaults) before reloading...and your reload is super fast!
Alongside the buff to Mass Drivers and decrease in TTK for rifles, I predict that we might just see fittings similar to this in 1.8
At least, that's what I'll be running to make the most of my prof 4 MDs :D

From my experience, using the same weapon in both light weapon slots is such a waste of the tactical potential of the commando. I'm not too concerned with seeing such one-trick-pony commandos.

Yes, but your MD will become a Teadybear Launcher against the Sentinel Spam.
The Scout Spam will balance out the Sentinel Spam, and the MD Spam will balance out the Scout Spam., leading to something like this:
Scout > Sentinel > MD > Scout
Hopefully this shall add a refeshing change to the current zerg-rush "tactics" that are in play.

MD will be the bane of cloakers i bet. i see more use fitting a CR with mine. needless to say i'm pretty stoked to go min commando. i've been using MD since before chrome but having a CR also will be awesome.

I could always be more OP by using an SR to get the proficiency bonuses from both shields and armor, along with the damage bonus of each type too (20% to shields + 15% prof bonus with SCR, 20% bonus to armor + 12% prof bonus + 10% commando bonus with MD)

Dual mass drivers would be nice for clearing a building, but I think a CR/mass driver combo would be more useful and the commando gives a bonus to both which is sweet.

Now this may change in 1.8 with new TTK and proficiency adjustments, but I'm still not expecting it to be that worth it.

Yeah but right now we don't have long TTKs with 4 racial heavies.
The commandos, alongside proficiency changes seem to be the counter that heavies will have in 1.8 Aside from cloaked scouts that is.
I understand that right now it doesn't matter, but that's mostly because with most weapons you can chew through armor just as fast as shields or vice versa.
The proficiency change will make all weapons feel like the scrambler does now, and make the scrambler feel even less effective.
We'll just have to wait...but I don't want to wait.

I am quite excited for the commandos. Especially the shielded ones, since most will run anti armor weaponry in 1.8.
BUT I have to try the effect of larger hitbox will be tonight.
Scouts hitbox is freaking awesome. It is really good even if you have low strafe speed apparently. I makes strafing so much more effective in CQC.
Dat caldari commando looks very appealing though, such a cool model.

I have been running MD (Mass Driver) since Chrome and i have pretty much every stat on them maxed except only 3/5 in pg usage atm and that was because they Nerfed MD's into the ground prior to 1.8!
Side the Point...Mk.o Commandos with dual MD would be a waste, Ill probly Run Swarms or my Combat Rifle as a secondary from it for anti tank or infantry depending on the map of course.
My experience running 2 of any weapon is a waste that's why there's 2 slots! Also the swarms proto with prof 5 and my bonus dmg with 1 proto dmg mod = owning tanks! Learn it, love it!

The sent res does not make as much of a dif you might think it does. sentinel heavys are still easy mode to hit with the MD and fluxes. |
