This game didn't get the best reviews but many of us have been here since the beginning and have gone through the bs this game had to offer. So what caught your eye about the game?
To be honest that picture with the Gal Scout & The Amarr Heavy & The Minmatar Scout & The Cal. Assault is what caught my eye all sitting on that hill like badasses. and the caldari assault

I didn't have money at the time and recently got the 12GB PS3. With Uncharted 1 and 2 and the GOW collection excluding Ascension, I wanted an FPS... So I look around in demos and F2P, tried BF3 and Dust 514. Stuck with Dust because I saw so much potential even though I was extremely lost because it was my first online game. Got the PS3 around November 2013.

Whats a nova knife? they have knives in this game I want it! and that m-1 scout suit it looks awesome.'
Semi competent but still a noob 'Ughhhh, flanking is boring no wonder were so skinny, ok, group of reds and a tank, don't move let em pass, ok lets go, ok, no one else coming there all clustered *equips REs* go go go go go, 2 should be enough, run! zigzag zigzag, click, boom. cool, 5 kills and some equipment, *gets cut down by an RR at 70mts away* do not get mad, do not get mad, just respawn, hi heavy militia shotty blast, bye heavy, hi heavies logi, bye logi, hi scrub heavy, bye scrub heavy.
Pretty much how it goes. And this game requires thinking. I use the three hardest roles in the game, Assault Dropship pilot, Logistics, and scout.
If you get near the 7+ people I'm repping I'll rip your face off.

It was cool and added a whole new lvl besides point and shoot and the thing that kept me was the "potential" but ya know.... CCP logic happens and all the guys holding up charts and little laser pointers and clickers pointing to obvious faults before the release and this is what ya get. Still a fun game though if you disregard the OP tanks CR and RR then maybe a little buff to the AR and the LR and maybe the MD.....(matar scum).
Its alright everyone, no need to worry it's just an Amarr scout :(

Wouldn't have noticed this game at all (since I wasn't really into FPS on consoles)...if it wasn't placed in the New Eden universe. As a (back then) retired EVE capsuleer, it caught my interest and I signed up for the BETA, and have been here since then.
I still suck at console FPS though. |

Heard about the game through MAG, researched it, got caught up in the potential (<- key word!) scope/scale/immersion, started pretty much as soon as the closed beta hit the Playstation. First thoughts? "Man, this **** is broken." It was seriously busted back then from a mechanical perspective. It's generally better in that regard now. |

I only watched one beta video, apart from that and the trailers from 2009 onwards I was expecting a huge graphics leap from beta. an economy, a full assortment of suits on each tier for each race, balanced gameplay.
I thought the poor reviews in may were just cod kids complaining at a game that required thought, I didn't know how bad it actually was untill months later when I joined in october. But I got the impression it was still beta when I joined and felt it was way behind schedule and felt mislead by trailers.

I started this game around spring of 2012 in the closed beta. I still had 3 active accounts in eve at that time. I started to play the game and was way out of my element. I had not really touched an FPS since halo 2. I started in games where tanks would stack up 5 to 10 high at the beginning spawn in skirmish 1.0. I would get OHKed by swarm launchers shot at my feet. I watched tanks blow up the null turrets when the enemy was to good at defending them for us to hack them. I would use small turrets posted on the ground to defend points. I would watch scouts strafe so fast I could not hit them with my AR. Even with all its problems back then I still enjoyed the game immensely and have been playing off and on ever since. Maybe something is wrong with me. Should I seek help? |

Played around 2 years now, its a hate/love relationship , some days its great game and the sosial in corp is fine. Other times its laggy, not rendering properly its bad.
But I think I will stick to this, of course I will by a PS4 and try out Destiny but I think I will always return to this game, and if marked and PVE comes along I am hooked.
But right now its the social in corp that is the best in the game, so for now the best we can do for new players is to invithe them to corp and show them a diffrent aspect of the game.
1.8 looks awsome looking forward to it, and we might begin recruting to our corp active again.
I am also exited what will come out of Fanfest this year will be there and get it first hand.....
I do honestly think this game have a future ,The Lord gives his blessing. |

Coming form being a long term EVE player? Potential.
Not just Any potential but EVE online has fundamental problems that i couldn't see them fixing in the game its self without DUST.
- Outpost Ownership changes and investment in flipping.. (Otherwise EVE online answer is to make them destroyable.. And they are in majority all player built)
-Titans - These massive investments into EVE online need a more dynamic mechanic around their use so they enter to battelfield more and can be countered by more then just another Super cap. And give the ability for up and comming corporations to use tactical skills and DUST coordination to advance in EVE.
0.0 Soverignty.. I don;t see any corporation be able to hold a Solar system without holding all the planet infrastructure aswell.
-PI resources- If all the PIR resources where somehow dependent on the DUST 514 populations The massive amazing dynamics between EVE and DUST and the symbiotic relationship needed to sustain both...
DUST offers so many answer's to EVE's sov mechanics and player based land grabs and politics.. Potentially the biggest feature for EVE since Super capitals. |

This video was my first contact with dust514. I saw it and thought, man that seems to be an awesome game with orbital cannons spaceships and whatnot...
Fast forward ca 1 1/2 years later, i saw an article about the open beta of dust and downloaded it. Hmmmm that's not exactly what I expected... but rpg like suit system and complex mechanics where at least interesting... Started my run with different characters, since I couldn't really figure what race to go for, and I usually restart RPGs when I more or less understand the game. Not so here, even after several days I still shot the MCC with the turrets and got insta gimped by heavies and scouts...
But then finally I got picked up by a decent corp and started to understand the game more and more. Running in a squad was really fun and the team spirit was a real change to the single player games I played before (my first mmofps). I read about the plans for Dust and believed in CCPs abilities to progress...
Right now, roughly one year after I started this game, I had to stop playing it, because it's just a chore driven by the feeling that grinding sp is necessary to keep up. But it bores the hell out of me, since nothing changes in the game mechanics (gamemodes) Stuff like the orbital cannon and big battle mechanics seem to be years away... But I'll brobably keep my characters and will have a look every now and then...

I'd been following DUST for years, from the first mention CCP made of it.
Wasn't an FPS player, especially not a console FPS player, but at that point we were all thinking it was going to be a 3 platform release anyway. My whole motivation was that it seemed obvious that DUST would increase the social complexity of New Eden and the stories coming out of her by an honest order of magnitude. That's still my focus and driving motivation in sticking with DUST: evolving New Eden.
Followed every scrap of information for years, eventually we knew it would be a PS3 exclusive, so I applied for the beta and bought a PS3 and paid for PS+ to maximize my chances just before invites rolled out. Having never used a controller for more than 2 minutes before, i did a little research and it seemed like the game that would be the best preparation for DUST was MAG.
Bought a copy cheap and hit the ground running with a wet, meaty 'splat'. Honestly wish i had recordings of my first couple of months, i'm sure it would be great comedy now. But it was good training, the MAG crowd are tough cookies.
I think i got my beta invite the week of the Mordus trials. Logging into New Eden(not really, but you know what i mean) for the first time through the DUST portal was something special for an 8 year EVE vet.
First day passed in a blur - i was just so happy to be there and be part of it, wasn't looking to analyze anything just wallow in all that beautiful New Eden dirt. I wasn't very good and the MAG vets were way ahead of us already, but i do have fond memories of putting down Protoman and marveling at how f'in tough his suit's tank was. I remember the out-of-ammo knifefights in those canyons being awesome even if the range on the knives was ludicrously short and the hit detection was buggy. And that first map was a thing of beauty, i don't really give a kittenpoop about imbalance, put me on the disadvantaged side every time and i'd still pick it over anything we have now.
But ofc the first blush of romance faded, the hormones were satiated, and the brain turned back on: 'holy f*** this is rough' is what the brain said about the state of the game.
And that was my first impression of DUST: the transcendent beauty of New Eden, slammed down to the ground and stomped on by the lumbering brute that is DUST.
But we mercs, though we've seen lifetimes of horror and all done....questionable things, we're still here. Because there are limits, and that brute named CCPDUST is gonna learn the hard way that he cannot treat a lady that way.
Not on our watch.
