I am torn between the Amarr and Gallente heavies. I have the "templar" BPO but the statistically the Gal heavy looks better. At worst losing 10 CPU in return for 4 PG. Any chance you guys can bring up some pros and cons to help make this decision easier? |

Amarr Heavy will kill a Gallente Heavy in a 1v1 HMG fight, so that's a plus. (Math if you don't believe me)
Gallente Heavy will be better at killing everything else, though, so long as RR and CR remain the preferred rifles. (And it looks like they will.)
On the whole, the two fat suits are pretty equivalent. I'm speccing into Amarr simply because I have the Templar BPO, and then I'm going Minmatar Heavy for no other reason than In Rust I Trust.

Don't forget that the Amarr heavy should reduce incoming armour damage from enemy HMG's by 15% at max level. (That's assuming the projectile resists apply to the HMG as well as the combat rifles)
Where as the Gallente Heavy will be better at shrugging off other infantry fire.

It has more EHP than even the Gallente if tricked out right.
Here's how
Gallente heavy 525+25%= 642 390+25%= 487 putting three complex plates on adds 405+10%=506+642=1144 I assume that heavies will still run DMG mods so adding the shields 977+487= 1,464 total
Now Amarrican heavy 600+25%= 750 360+25%= 450 adding two plates 270+10%= 297+750= 1047 Assuming you can run a Complex extender and one dmg mod 66+10%= 72+450= 522 522+1047= 1569 total
Sidenote, I personally would run only one complex plate on a suit, the rest ferroscale. Here's why, heavies will be easy targets when they're weighed down by their armor, it's better to be able to strafe a little more if that means you sacrifice armor in my opinion.

While it's worthy of debate, I don't think it's as important a difference as the average bear would be lead to believe.
The meta in 1.8 is going to favor dual tanking, even for heavies. After patch, an Amarr Sentinel with 2x Complex Extenders will have 595 shield HP to chew through, against which rails will only do 80% of their DPS (if your skills are up).
As much as possible, don't start fights when you'd down in armor and you'll be fine.
Still, the Gallente suit having both bonuses geared toward one defense layer is awfully nice, and I understand why so many people are interested in it.

Go to the market and pick up a Minmatar slave, stick him in a logi suit and you'll never ask if Gallente would have been a better choice again.

I'm getting the Amarr for tanking Shields and Biotics for a speedy offensive fit. I'm getting the Gallente for defensive Armor based builds and because I plan to spec as much Gallente stuff as possible for Faction Warfare continuity. (The Caldari was even on my mind, until they destroyed Damage Mods.)
Either way, you can't go wrong - just find what fits your playstyle.

I don't know if its ideal but I already run with just one plate and the rest are the best reps I can fit after everything else is added. At least when I know I wont have a buddy with a rep tool around. |
