I don't know if you're kidding. There are so so many great forum posts about how to skill properly.
What you need to decide is what play style you prefer, if you want to be fast and a scout the Cal scout is the way to go. If you prefer an assault or light assault versatile role then the Amarr Scout. The assault suits are useless, so I wouldn't suggest them.
With 6m SP you should be able to set up your player perfectly. The first thing you need to do is spec into a prototype (level 5) suit, whichever you grab doesn't matter Cal Scout. Amarr Scout or if you want more HP try Gal or Cal sentinel (heavy).
After you get your suit to level 5, you want to grab level 5 of the weapon of your choice. The Combat Rifle or the Rail Rifle are the best choices, pick one and level it to 5. Once you have the right suit and primary weapon its 1/3 of the battle.
It's about 3m for a suit and 3m for a weapon. So thats 6m. With the event this weekend that will be at least another 750k. With that you want to get into suit upgrades. Grab lv1 of each shield extenders, armor, CPU increase, PG increase, CPU/PG increase, and armor/sheild base. At level 1 these won't give you much but its much easier to build a character this way IMO.
Once the suit and weapons are chosen, you can slowly work on upgrading the CPU/PG to fit better shield and armor mods. The idea is to get a weapon that makes you competitive and can actually kill someone, while getting the suit (at Proto but run adv suits cuz its cheaper) to build around. There's nothing wrong with running a cal suit with 3 shield extenders and 2 armor mods with a Rail rifle. The idea is to keep yourself alive long enough to do some damage.
The best advice I can give you gameplay wise, try to follow someone. Its hard for a noob to gun down someone alone, so in a pair it makes things easier. You might not get kills right away but its points and help you will need. Check out forums, lots and lots of ways to build a char. My way, get best suit and weapon and slowly work in everything else. It's too much not to max out a rail rifle right away cuz playing catch up isn't fun. |

Everything comes after.
Thats fine, there will be a re-spec n march 25th.
I suggest you put your 6m SP into a proto suit and a prototype weapon and use the bonus SP you get this weekend (10 matches must be played to qualify - maybe get 750k-1m free SP) and use that SP to get into drop suit skills.
It's okay, trust me many players don't agree how to properly build a character. But the two hardest things and the two most important things are to have the best suit and weapon possible and then work within that framework. You can spend 75k SP and get lv1 armor and shield extender and that alone makes you viable. Sure, at 6-7m SP you can't be expected to own. Ur who cares the idea is to be competitive and getting the best weapon does that.
Rail Rifles are a little easier to use than Combat Rifles. Here two options: A scout Amar suit at advanced with basic x2 shield extenders and basic x3 armor mods is 600-642 total armor + shields (called eHP). This makes you competitive at an advanced fitting, your weapon makes it possible for you to excel so you're fine. With the same build a cal scout at advance is 490-505 eHP. Its much less but this class allow you to view many of your enemies on the mini map giving up an advantage. Both are good strong options for a player thst has limited SP. |

It understand what you are saying, yes drop suit cores skills are extremely important. Yes, I'm not some elite player who can give you exactly what you should spec into (there are some good ones on forums) but what I am saying in order to be competitive you need to max out a weapon (like rail rifle) in order to do any damage output. It will cost about 3m SP to make your weapon competitive but what's the point of carrying a weapon that can't kill.
Secondly, i feel that getting a suit is the second most important. Pick a suit that fits the role you want to play. Like I said, Amarr scout suit is a good option of light assault. Small hit box, fast, has good stamina, has a lower profile than assault class... Same build type (high eHP) can be applied to the Cal scout suit as well. Getting 500-600 eHP on a fast moving, small box box that can pump put lv5 rail rifle damage is what you need,to be competitive. The drop off from weapons and suits is more than that of armor and shields for the SP.
People will tell you save your SP and get a lv3 suit and not a lv5 prototype suit, and use that 1M SP to get better core suit skills and frankly they might be right. But IMO to be competitive you can slowly build your core skills from lv1 to 3 but if you cannot dish out damage its all useless. I know scouts have the same shield and armor at std adv and pro but if I were you and I was you after open beta I used my 7m SP to max a weapon and a suit both to lv5. So i have been in this position before, I've been the guy asking for help and I have found this way to be the best. |
