I don't care either way really, but there seems to be no good reason besides "we want a respec." The main thing seems to be a confusion about EVE players remapping attribute points and thinking they get SP respecs.
If we get one I will take advantage of it, but I wont cry for one.
A no respec would hurt mid aged players the most for a fresh char it really doesn't matter and for high SP char it won't matter either. If you have close to 40mill SP you already have all you need to be good in 1.8. Sure some vets would reallocate some points to either skill into the FOTM or just to get rid of some mistakes or useless skill due to change in playstyle. But for vets a no respec would just be slightly uncomfortable.
A mid age char stitting 6-10 mill Sp with one role specced out will be several hurt by the upcoming skillchanges |

Great thread. so funny cause it's true
The fact is, OP guys will always exist in any game (except Mario Kart ... those commie socialist nintendo pigs ... with their "fun for everyone" gamemechanics-approach. laughable!).
Just because they have 1.better reflexes, 2.more time on hand, 3.more money invested (not neccessarily in that order). Buying Active and Passive Boosters straight for the whole year, capping every week, being in since open beta and starting uprising with already tons of experience, SP and ISK makes you exactly what? Unbeatable. Ever. You will always be getting your SP faster than me. You will play more and know your fittings better than me. You will know the new maps faster than me (if there are gonna be new ones ever again). You will have the more tuned in squad than me.
Considering all that above, all the odds stacked against me ... Im doing pretty well :) cheers. Nothing to be worried about there.
Just one thing: How many of the players out there are as obstinate as me? MMO-Games depend on large Player Bases. How many are gonna be will their way through the hardships of being OWNED by well ... even by me? I'd really like to know. Any experts on this around here? That really worries me, cuz I really like the game, but my friends all quit playing months ago. |

To spell it out, us vets at about 30 mil SP who know what we are skilling into will (by the time 1.8 hits) probably have 5 proto suits, multiple proto weapons and most of dropsuit upgrades tree maxed out. at least that'll be the case for me. So, imagine a flexible specialist across the board. |

The only reason players are anti respec: they are trying to keep the advantage vs new players with low SP. They are so scared to be owned in a console game. You fool, vets have so much more sp, they will right any wrongs they did trying to make their fotm suits. They will spec into everything that's over powered and continue to kill scrubs. The wise scrub might specialize but I'm sure most will try to do a little bit of everything and then ask for more respecs. But hey If you really want vets to get a reaped I could take my skill points out of gal ar and then put it into my magsec when it comes out, or get my lvl 5 into cal assault dropship, or max out my cal scout, I'm sure a scrub will have a better chance if we all got respecs |

this logic is so odd to me, if their is a skill that makes any major difference I have it, or do you think level 5 scanning precision over level 4 makes you the most amazing slayer in the world?
you see the major difference between a specialist and flexible character tends to have a few more level 5 skills mean while the flexible character can use entirely different fits, and adapt to the battle.
specialist is a good rule of thumb when you are starting out but after a point you need to branch out. |

I think it's more like: after 15-20 mil SP, there is only breadth, not depth. There's a limit to how much SP you can actually put to use on any given fit, and at that point, a newer player can stand toe-to-toe with a bitter old vet just fine. (As long as they got skill.)

I've got 30 mil on my main with 2.5 mil unnallocated waiting for Caldari commando. On my alt I've got 20 mil and have been will have my 2nd proto suit by this time tomorrow. Come 1.8 I'll have proto in 5 different suits between my characters, both have all most of the basics maxed, I've got at least prof 3 in 6 weapons and prof 5 in a couple of those. I'd like a respec because the new Amarr logi role doesn't really do it for me, but if I can't its no big deal I've got 4 other proto suits to use.
Its the 5-10 mil players that will benefit the most, newbies the least and us bitter vets are somewhere in between. Either way, more good will come from a respec than harm IMO

I was/still am a staunch supporter of no "at-will" respecs. However, I do support everyone getting one (1) respec once we have full racial parity (Dropsuits, Vehicles and Weapons).
Please note, when I say "Full racial parity", I mean of all things currently in game such as Dropships, HAVs, LAVs, Shotguns, Sniper Rifles etc. I am not including things that we do not yet have such as MAVs, MTACs or speeders.

The OP is 100% correct. Some people are too stupid to see it, but it's 100% true.
The vets are largely unaffected by a lack of respec. It's the 15-20 mil SP player that stood to gain the most from a respec. Not saying that lower SP players wouldn't benefit, it's just that the impact wouldn't be immediate. A 15 mil SP player with the opportunity to specialize can become very proficient in one roll.

I like those advanced trolling techniques of yours. Double-trolling while gaining a personal profit, truly an accomplishment of the rare sort.
Rile up the demanding side into a riot by rubbing salt into the wound, and in the case they get what they want, sh!t on them ingame even more than now.
You see, people that have 30m SP have wasted half of them on things they dont really use often, and dont get significant benefits from. Now that they know what works and what doesnt, in case of a respec they will have the ability to **** you twice as hard, twice as long.
Its brilliant, really.

Err, how do you figure that? It's not like I would spend my 22 million SP that different from what it is now. Half of it will still go into HAV related skills (like it is now), and the rest will also pretth much stay the same. In fact the only thing I'd do different is spec out of minmatar logistics to minmatar scout. But that's about all the benefit I would get from a respec. |
