Take a look at this chart and this chart
Do you see anything strange?
On the left, you have 1.8 sidearm range comparison. It has statistics for weapons such as Burst ScP, Breach ScP, and Tactical ScP. Now take a look at the chart on the left. This chart is from the pre-1.7 devblog on rifle additions/changes.
Now look at the weapons; Assault Combat Rifle, Assault Scrambler Rifle, Assault Rail Rifle, Burst Assault Rifle, Tactical Assault Rifle. Notice how at the STD level they are faded, insinuating that these weapons do not/will not exist at that tier.
But back track to the pistol ranges chart. Look at specifically Burst and Tactical. Those two weapons currently only exist at ADV, but this chart does not have them faded at STD and PRO.
Can one insinuate that 1.8 will bring around the existence of Prototype Burst Scrambler Pistols and possibly the arrival of the Tactical Pistol onto market shelves?
I would like some clarification from CCP as to why:
- Weapon ranges for Tactical are not faded at STD and PRO
- If this is a mistake
- Why there are no Assault Sidearms on the charts (is it because of imbalance?)
- Why Burst SMG and Tactical SMG were put up at all unless they will be brought about in 1.8
I sincerely hope my assumptions are right (all hail the Imperial Breach)

I'm looking forward to the Burst SMG, the Tac tho has me wondering about what is being changed to attain radically higher damage AND range? Bigger bullet makes sense for Breach, as it's heavier, meaning lower Rof and range. The tac tho GAINS range, AND even more damage! This means either a longer propellant cartridge for the bullet, or a much longer barrel....

Still a bit annoyed at the Ion Pistol being so terrible. Hurray! It has a charge shot... that overheats at full charge... and will have a higher DPS than a Scrambler. But the Viziam Scrambler Pistol has a Rate of Fire at 500. This is pretty much as fast as you can hit the trigger button. Unless the RoF is reduced on the Assault Scrambler Pistol, TT-3 Assault Scrambler Pistol, Viziam Scrambler Pistol, and Carthum Assault Scrambler Pistol, the Ion Pistol is just going to fall by the way-side and only be used by people that use Gallente Weapons for RP reasons

Tac pistols blow ATM (the acronym works multiple ways...)
The assault has more range, faster ROF and damage. No reason to use a Tac. currently.
I like what I see with most of the changes, though. The Tac needs a big buff to be halfway useful.
I don't have any guesses about most of the OP, but I think the Assault sidearms were taken out because they don't really have a point. The Assault ScP is just a better ScP. No downsides besides fitting costs. Redundant weaponry is a waste of server space. I'll miss my carthum assaults, but it's for the best.

Troll CCP put the variants in their tabs but they don't add them to the game.

Yeah I always considered it the Cheater Beater of pistols but it did have a noticeably inaccurate hip fire.....by comparison I mean.
The Tac Pistol seems like wimp-wash when hipfired but that Zoom! Makes headshots pretty easy when you have the jump.

I have yet to find an Assault variant of anything that I have used that is simply not just better, no downside except fitting cost (and sometimes even that is not much of an issue) Assault variants of weapons need to be reviewed in my opinion.

Hey some of us will use the Ion Pistol simply because we enjoy the challenge. Expect to see me wield ing my Flaylock/Ion Pistol combo in the near future

I've really been enjoying my Brust scram pistol over the past few weeks been running regular variant before that but now switched it up. So if there is a possibility of a prototype burst that will make me very happy

And I'd be willing to bet that the Assault SMG will never be seen again.
In every other facet of this game besides the sidearms (and swarms, I guess. but whatever) the Assault prefix tends to mean "fully automatic".
Since the SMG already fires like that the assault prefix can't really do much. It seems altogether way too redundant to be worth rebalancing and getting put back in to the game.

The assault ScP was removed so they could have another Amarr Assault weapon.
