The thing about Dust 514 is that you end up dying a lot in ways you have no control over, so it's quite frustrating.
I'm sure people will tell you to just wait to invest more skill points, or play the game until you can tell the difference between every shotgun type just by listening to it.
I don't think you have to do that.
In my opinion, the number one thing you can do to avoid dying is to play with a squad. That way you know that someone's got your back, and you can make unified efforts with a group of people. Plus, when you play with a squad all of your war points go towards generating an orbital strike, which just helps your team more. |

Don't solo; Join squad. Learn to strafe. Know when to run away.
The benefit of a squad changes a lot of things for you. If someone dies, it gets the whole squads attention and usually they can counter the resistance and hopefully get you back up and in the game. Sometimes you're the unlucky first shot. Sometimes you're not. Other times you're the one with the scanner and can see them coming.
While in the beginning its quite different and dying feels frustrating simply because it seems like you can't do anything before dying, don't buy into the 'you're only cool with a high kdr' koolaid. It will ruin this game for you and make you the type of player no one wants to squad with. Work on team work skills in a squad. Join the "Learning coalition" chat channel. Cool peeps.

Use cover, if you don't feel that your cover-analyzing skills are up to snuff, play some xcom-enemy unknown and come back.

If you have to run, RUN! There's nothing wrong with backing out of a fight and heading in the other direction. For long distances, only shoot what you know you can kill. Shooting someone can alert them to your presence and if they have a stronger weapon/dropsuit, you're dropping like a fly.
Try flanking and catching your opponent off guard. Sounds like you might have a low SP count and with that in mind I would say, try avoiding head on fights or one on one. You want to shoot the guy that's in a bad position so you will have ample time to finish him off.
Concentrate on upping your core skills. If you're a shield user, up your shield skills for maximum shield HP when you equip shield extenders. Armor, same thing.
Don't continuously charge into choke points. If you see a bunch of blues shooting in one direction, facing North, see if you can flank east or west. Shake up the monotony to keep the enemy on their toes.

If you are in a vehicle with an active module such as a shield hardener, you can activate it using R2 + Right Stick, you will find it on the wheel somewhere. |

No but really as you play the game you will start to earn more SP. Use that SP to upgrade your shields, shield extenders and so on. I'm not a "Heavy" player but it's also harder to kill thoes guys. You can also use your SP to buy better dropsuits.
Last tip is if you die don't respond right away if there is a medic they can use the nanite injector to bring you back to life. Yes, you still got killed but you saved your self and your team a clone. This will save you money and help your team win.

Your KDR will suck at first but it will start to get better and go positive. , some new players enjoy door gunning on a dropship because it's a powerful wep compared to anything they have access to. i'm always looking for more gunners

Join chat channels and find people to play with.
If you see a good player in-game that you liked, send them a mail by selecting their name and ask if they have a public channel for their corp.
Once you have a couple good channels just squad up with people by putting up "lfs" in those channels and try to see if people can help you.

For Snipers: Never run across an open field if you can help it. That is Rail Rifle and Sniper territory, or basically anything outside your range. If you are scanned, immediately start running away, hostiles are within around 100-150 meters of you, which is just shy of the optimal distance of the Scambler and Rail Rifle. Sniper Rifles can hit at 600 meters, so never, and I MEAN NEVER stand still.
For other suits like Proto, start learning names on the Player List, accessible by hitting up on the D Pad. Corps to watch out for, Fatal Absolution, Gods Among Men (lol), Ancient Exiles, Hell Storm Inc., Dem Dirty Boys, Dark Legion, Nyain Can/ Chan. These are some big ones that more often than not have players with tanks, proto fits, and better skill than you, most likely. Anything in this game is killable. HP, while important, is not the only way into victory. Even heavies with 1700 health can die. If you wish to stop being scanned, Go into Profile Dampening, located in Dropsuit Upgrades, Dropsuit Core Upgrades, then Dropsuit Electronics, which then leads to Dampening. Get it to level 3 if possible, and run two of those. You will dodge most advanced scanners, which better allows you to flank.
Do not invest into stronger scanners until you get Electronics and Enginnering at least to 3. I run that on my Proto Minmatar Assault
4 Enhanced Shield Extenders 2 Enhanced Profile Dampeners 1 "Fearcrop" Boundless Combat Rifle M1 Locus Grenades Submachine Gun A-45 Quantum Scanner 1 Complex Damage mod
Result: 327 shields 169 Armor Capable of dodging 67% of scanners Capable of scanning most players
I go an average of 1500 warpoints, with a rising KDR of 1.67, although KD in this game is pathetic, and not a measure of a players skill. Join our public chat GODS AMONG MEN (The Os are zeroes), if you need any tips.
Peace buddy.
IDGAF who you are. You shot at my Corp, now I WILL kill you. Only question is: Will you fight back?

I've got to agree with most on this thread. Playing with a squad is ideal for staying alive in matches with having logi support and other members to have your back. But you'll sometimes find that you may jump in a squad and then during the match everyone in said squad decides to do their own thing leaving you in the same situation you were already in. This game is based heavily upon teamwork but not everybody in a squad is going to play that way.
Bottom line is whether you solo or squad up in matches don't bite off more than you can chew. You have to be selective about who you try to take down. If youre running a medium suit dont try taking out heavies by yourself. Im not saying you cant solo a heavy but 95% of the time youre gonna get worked. Same goes for medium protostomps too... if you're like me and don't run proto in pub matches a lot of the time youre gonna be outgunned. |

1. never stop moving 2. stay near your team/squad. 3. join squads and play as a team -- focus your fire 4. invest SP in core skills (armor/shield) 5. stay near cover 6. if you get hit and aren't already shooting at the subject and about to kill them -- retreat/hide. |
