It was difficult for me to reminisce on the fond memories of Skirmish 1.0 when the following GLARING ISSUES were apparent in the video. Suddenly I'm reminded as to why we should take a moment to appreciate the things we have now that we take for granted.
1. HORRIBLE graphics. The terrain, weapon, dropsuits, even the Warbarge and the city looked horrible. Bland textures, no decent shader quality, lighting was off, etc.
2. LAG!!!!!!!! OMG SO MUCH LAG BACK THEN! You could see it in the video. Rubberbanding effect was the most apparent kind of lag we ever had.
3. Extremely long TTK which was the result of little hit detection and no aim assist. Notice how the guy was completely surrounded by all those reds in the open with almost no cover yet he manages to mop the floor with them with just his AR. Even he missed quite often which only dragged out the fight even more. Because of this alone, plus his excellent gun game, he was able to go 12-0 in that match.
4. Back then you were able to spawn on the objective even while the virus was still uploading. This presented a major problem with holding the objectives since you had to concentrate a large number of your team on just that one objective alone.
5. It was extremely hard to tell in the middle of the fire fight who was friend and who was foe when both sides had similarly colored health bars and the only difference was the color of the name and even then the names weren't clearly visible as you can see in the video.
6. Slow loading menus.
7. Respawn time took too long (minimum of 8-10 seconds).
8. Infinite vehicle-spawn glitch which caused the vehicle queue to lock up preventing anyone from calling in any more vehicle. Sure, we had all these free LAVs but what if you needed an HAV? Tough luck, you're stuck with LAVs.
9. Notice everyone there was in an NPC corp in the roster. Player-run corps were non-existent. Hell, private squads didn't even exist.

And yes watching HOW they killed you for that 10 seconds or less is a giant learning tool and improves the gameplay for all... Also would stop hundreds of forum posts every month about certain player groups. It's a feature that would help Pub's?... Should it be in PC and FW? no.... was it ever a feature that should of taken priority over other fundamental issues? hell no.
Like FFS we have scanners that give positions through walls... and re watching the moment you died and HOW is gonna give their position away? that doesn't even make sense in the realm of DUST.
The kill sheet does state what weapon and distance you got shot with and the hit indicator does reveal the direction of the shots, but you are still left to guess where the shot came from which is how it should be.
Scanners are not full proof. Scouts have the advantage of avoiding scanners. Particularly the Gallente Scout Gk.0 which is the only suit capable of evading ALL scanners including the Duvolle Focused Active Scanner and is able to compete with the upcoming Caldari Scout Ck.0 which is a dedicated anti-scout suit. Also, the "some margin of error" message won't even appear if the target's scan profile is low enough relative to the precision of your active scanner.
Watching the final moments of your death from the eyes of your shooter is not really a learning experience. I don't know what propaganda you were fed about kill cams, but the harsh reality about kill cams is that they are just easy-button tools for players who don't want to make any effort to estimate or guess where their enemy is at and instead want the system to hold their hand for them. I have played enough CoD games for years to know that kill cams are just immersion breaking and is totally unfair to those who put in all the effort to find an effective position to strike and just rewards the victim with too much free intel. That said, kill cams have no place in Dust.
PS: I'm an Eve Online player who has been around since Replication Build in closed beta. I know how bad and stupid many of the ideas were from those coming from traditional FPS games. Eve Online players were the ones trying their best to keep Dust from becoming just another FPS game. But no, the vocal minority won out over the tireless majority and now here we are.

The landscape and game mode, yes.
Everything else? NO. It sucked. I was there and I had to endure the glaring issues that I already mentioned a couple of pages back. And don't get me started on the sliding uplinks, dying while falling only 2 inches, having your sprint constantly interrupted every 5 feet by a pebble, suffering dropships that literally crushed you every 10 seconds, etc.
I don't care what anyone says. Besides Skirmish 1.0 which was awesome, everything else from Replication to the E3 2012 build (pre-Codex) was just bad.

The Call-of-Duty-Easy-Mode fanbois won with all their complaining. Us Eve Online players tried our best to stop them from ruining the game but we lost. Now let's hope CCP Rouge shook things up enough to bring us back to the good old days of awesome gameplay and boundless potential.
